Ummm... Gohan is in the same league as Vegeta and his dad. At least as much as Trunks was the last arc. That was kind of the entire point of him training with Piccolo before the tournament. Also, again, saying that teamwork is just being used as an excuse to make Gohan's group not matter and stay on the sidelines is just bullshit. It's been one episode. For all we know, Goku and Vegeta are beaten early and Gohan's group goes on to beat everyone else in the tournament spectacularly using glorious teamwork and combo moves.
You can't make predictions about the outcome of an entire arc based solely on a single episode and a cynical outlook on the future. Remember that it wasn't Goku, Vegeta, or Vegetto who defeated Fused Zamasu last arc, it was Trunks. Zen-Oh just cleaned up afterward.

...Honestly no.
Lets be frank, these guys become useless pretty quickly. I actually don't think it's premature to be concerned about them falling into their usual role because someone (whether it be Toei or Toriyama) might toss them under the bus once again to prop up The Hero and The Rival.
Edit:
That's not really going to happen. I admit, I hope the teamwork strategy pays off more than we all expect, but we gotta be ready for the reality that is predictability.

One Strip! One Strip!I mean, I don't imagine that they'll do nothing. They'll each be given a moment or two to shine, but whether that moment makes sense is another matter, and even the context of what's going on, it'll be made clear which contributions were most important, and it won't be this group's, except maybe Gohan against Hit or something.
I reject the notion that Goku and Vegeta will be the only relevant U7 members.
Frieza will probably do something.
This song needs more love.I wouldn't call it cynicism when similar things keep happening. I don't particularly fault them for it either, Goku and Vegeta should be able to do a lot more than the others, so it makes sense for it to be written as such.
They'd just be better of acknowledging that and relegating the others to slice-of-life stuff (which is legitimately enjoyable) and stop pretending that "catching up" or contributing in just as meaningful ways as those two is something that's actually possible for most of them.

I mean, 18 was out-classed years ago...by 7-8 year old Saiyan hybrids, yet who is the one who's actually involved in the plot right now? The same would hold true for 17, yet now he's gotten to the point where he's not only able to stand up to a Super Saiyan Blue who's holding back, but also hold back an unknown amount of his own power in the process, by essentially doing the same solo training that Tien has been doing for the past two decades. Really, we just need to accept the fact that Toei can and will bullshit people to relevance again, logic be damned, and there is literally nothing we can say or do to change that because Toei doesn't really care about what our side of the fan base thinks.
Let's see if you can get past my Beelzemon. Mephiles, WARP SHINKA!Nothing bitter about it. Just being accurate.
Trunks' blow does not have any narrative impact, unless you count making the situation worse so that Zen'o had to be brought in.
Besides, Trunks has more popularity power than Team Nerd. The fact that he's a side character doesn't put him in the same category as them, as he's more like a guest character and the whole arc had been shilling him.
Just sayin', you don't have to be a cynic to not be disappointed by stuff...
A cynical person still has expectations...
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Bullshit power up though it was, it was still a nice attack. It mostly needed more buildup instead of coming out of nowhere.
As for it's lack of doing anything, I don't really fault Trunks for that. How could anyone expect something as insane of Zamasu's final actions to happen. It is entirely possible that the same thing would have taken place if Vegito had struck the finishing blow. Zamasu just refused to lose in the end.
I'm giving the kid a pass essentially.
One Strip! One Strip!

Yeah, constantly giving us hope for other characters then yanking the rug out from under us is really annoying.
At this point, you really shouldn't hope for your favourite character to be relevant in any way if they ain't Goku and Vegeta.
Though 17 and 18 aren't doing too bad so far it seems.
