Considering the aura from the NEP doesn't match the one from the promo poster, I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that Goku's trying to charge a spirit bomb for some odd reason.
I like how it was Frieza of all people who gave at least some lip service to the idea while the rest of Team Douchebag just bailed without a word.
My Megaman and MegaTen RPG LiveblogsOh shit I found something funny. Its Goku making a deal with Old Kai to find the Namekian's after Kidd Buu destroyed Earth with the new Kai dialogue.

I just love this. How Goku is so deviously smart to come up with a bribe like this as well as knowing enough about female anatomy to make comments like "tight & right", Bulma being prettier than his own wife & knowing how to make a porno. Its also hilarious how the he assumes the woman Gokus's talking about is Bulma, dude really does think his wife is hot, hahaha.
That is odd.
I mean, Gohan couldn't have been holding back that much right?
Cause he probably was holding back (no Mystic form or even Super Saiyan, and a generic ki blast instead of anything like a kamehameha...though Roshi did that already).
Meh. At least the fights look cool so far. At the least, the entire thing is as chaotic as we knew it would be.
One Strip! One Strip!Yeah, I noticed the same thing.
You know, one of the things I was really looking forward to this arc was the opportunity to see aweome moments from characters other than Goku and Vegeta. I was even willing to forgive the leaps in logic they took to make the human characters way stronger because I was sure it'd all be worth it.
But now, it's like... why would they even do that if they're just going to have them go back to being useless once the tournament actually begins?

No beer?! But if there's no beer, then there's no beef or beans!I guess Lavender really bulked up in the two days he had which also involved searching for more guys to help fight.
Also Goku is one diabolical motherfucker. Dude is willing to pimp out his son's girlfriend & his oldest friend in a deal with a deity.
Watch out Krillen for he might pull that shit with 18 this time.
While we're talking about teamwork mattering, I got me thinking about that "awesome" moment and similarly crappy example put on the awesome page for the Abridged series.
Even if Bagaramo or how ever you spell his name just absorbed the attack that seems like it would be a more awesome moment for Universe 9, not our guys. They had no effect.
It's a ridiculous as that time when someone people one of Krillin Own Count moments as a moment of awesome because he happened to have a Senzu and so recovered immediately only to continue doing what he was doing. He succeeded but still, that's just stretching "awesome" so as to be meaningless.
I mean, Gohan couldn't have been holding back that much right?
If they want to show someone being outclassed, they will. After everything else in this arc it's too late to expect consistency.
Anyway, on the actual episode itself: this is pretty much what I'm expecting for the battle royale.
Most of the fighting being a bunch of chaos covered up by background explosions, small skirmishers shown which won't all be resolved on-screen, characters just re-appearing elsewhere (Lavender appears to fight Goku before we see how his fight with Gohan's group ended), recycled animation, very shallow combat and fighters eliminated quickly without standing out much.
This could just be because this is the establishing episode for the tournament, but I don't see this format changing except for big emphasis on Goku and Jiren's fight (and maybe Vegeta versus magical girl).
I think it's pretty likely that they will do some sort of moments for the characters who actually made it to the tournament, but after the bait and switch with Boo it's pretty obvious that nobody has a problem deliberately building up hype to let people down.
It's not so different to Piccolo and Boo being added to the U6 tournament, or Gohan taking up his training after Freeza (for the anime). It lures people in, and it works. It still works.
The optimistic answer is Misaimed Fandom - Goku and Vegeta are still the majority of what people want to see, and the writers genuienly want to please everyone but are poor at balancing it. The job they do is so bad that it's hard to believe, but I think this is at least part of it.
The cynical answed is that this is very deliberate. Either Toriyama is taken "subverting expectations" so far as to think letting fans down is a clever twist, or they do this because it gets them the fan response they want. The mere suggestion that [your fav] might matter may simply be enough to get people into it more than excluding said favourite drives people away.

This is a pretty boss trailer for Buu's resurrection & its for Fat Buu who is not the absolute worse Buu which is way yet to come.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."For all my criticisms of Toriyama, I doubt he'd go that far...at least not deliberately. Sure he set characters up to look awesome only to have them fail and their actions not affect anything at all, but that was because he was just writing on the fly and probably didn't think of the long term affect on said characters as long as the story went in the direction it was supposed to.
I doubt he'd really ever start purposely setting them up to fail...though I can't deny the possibility either.
I can buy the other explanation as well (it's why Vegito was in the advertisements for episode 66, even though he craps out at the end). And lets be honest, it worked. We all got hyped for the return of Vegito...and then was utterly disappointed.

One Strip! One Strip!

Yeah, that wasn't what I got from that scene at all, and I don't really get where that interpretation came from. It should be removed.
And even without that it assumes their attacks would have been enough to knock them out, and is wrong about knocking them out, eliminating them. It really has no ground to stand on.
