I mean, everyone else besides Bulma was pretty easily convinced, mostly because they wanted to test their limits too.
If they really did want to go with that, I doubt he would have actually tried to stop them, or let Vegeta stop them.
Also standard "if the bad guy hasn't done the thing yet, it would feel wrong to kill them for it" good guy bit. Which doesn't really work as well considering Gero was supposed to be greatly involved in the Red Ribbon Army and surely already responsible for a lot of death and destruction, but that was the thinking.

As an aside, it was also because Goku wanted to make sire Gohan had the confidence/strength to fight. He had to be the defender of earth after he died, after all.
"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaeIt was less because he wanted Gohan to be confident, and more he wanted the fight to be "fair" for both of them.
But yea, I will agree that what Toriyama says about Goku's character doesn't exactly with what he's written. And Toei kind of exasperates the issue by slightly altering Goku's character as well.
Its' funny how Toei have done a complete 180 on their portrayal of Goku, whom was more heroic in the original Z Anime....and then they just took him in the complete opposite direction to align with what Toriyama wanted post-BOG.
In short, I don't think Toriyama is really consistent with what he does.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.I mean, Goku did refuse help from Kami against Piccolo Jr., who would most likely have started his campaign to rule the world by killing everyone still there, simply because he didn't want to lose the tournament because getting help would be cheating; he then proceeded to give Piccolo a free shot against him to make it fair.
Goku being so fight-happy that it goes against common sense has been a thing since the OG Dragon Ball manga.

I mean, it's a standard Honor Before Reason thing...it's just that, the fate of the world was on the line.
It's kind of a thing in Dragon Ball how characters will put honor and fairness over logic and reasoning, even when it works against them. That's Shonen in general, but Dragon Ball tends to take the logical conclusion of such a mindset as so many situations are made worst because the good guys decide to "play fair".
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.If he can't tap into his full power, then he's weaker. His power was effectively 'sealed' away and he can't access it, which is all that matters for the comparison with Goku and Pure Boo.
@Shlugo South Kaioshin should be inside Mr Boo, so he was removed. It's a little strange that Boo turned into Buff Boo at all given that, although we see with Satan that having Mr Boo inside him can still influence Pure Boo, so it must have been enough to briefly cause that transformation but not sustain it.
@Pushover Even though Goku and Pure Boo fought for longer, Goku starting taking battle damage immediately into the fight, and he hadn't noticed the additiobal strain from 3 yet. Those aren't the reason Pure Boo was able to injure him.
Besides, we're outright told that Pure Boo is stronger than Fat Boo.
Except Fat Buu was still capable of accessing his newly increased power if he got mad enough; his rage would let him bypass the limiter put on him from absorbing the Kaioshin, allowing him access the power he got from both him and the Kaioshin's strongest apprentice (yes, I know this isn't accurate, but the concept of a Daikaioshin no longer exists now, so he's most likely been retcon into being the Kaioshin before Shin.)
Let's see if you can get past my Beelzemon. Mephiles, WARP SHINKA!I also use the Japanese/manga names for everything except Krillin and Vegetto and I grew up with the Funi dub.

Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book! The esoteric Funi dub spellings were just so Funi could trademark them anyway so not using them is alright with me. The only one I don't use off hand is Freeza.

Legend has it that if you spell it as Frieza, Kaiser Neko will hunt you down and force you to watch all of the Broly movies until you learn to spell it right.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Well, the third one is positive...
So no problem...

Yep. Look at the back of Funi's old VHS and DVD covers. every single name but a few are trademarked or copyrighted and such. It was specifically done to control the toy market as they technically didn't have the rights to them but to spell the names right they had to go through them anyway.

hat about when he opted against finding Dr Gero lab because he wanted to fight androids?
