Pretty much.
Frieza didn't need to train when he was so strong by simple virtue of being Frieza that only a God of Destruction and an Eldritch Abomination were more powerful. He was the undisputed most powerful mortal in the entirety of Universe 7 until Goku did what he usually does and kicked his ass for getting in his [Goku's] way.
I can see why he didn't bother with training.
To use a tired analogy, he was Saitama before Saitama was even a thing...only he actually could be surpassed.
...And Saitama was actually born powerful...
...and he purposely dragged battles out instead of ending them instantly...
...and he grew a tail rather than just going bald...
...and...
<Is bricked>

One Strip! One Strip!<catches the brick with his teeth and eats it>
Anyone else want to try their luck?
Anyway...that Frieza sure is an asshole huh?
One Strip! One Strip!Damnit, Rob, you ruined it! I was trying to retroactively explain where the aforementioned brick came from, not throw another one! Bricks don't just materialize out of thin air, and yet you interacted with two bricks, despite me only throwing one! You've effectively created matter, and now you've doomed us all by destroying the very fabric of reality!
Someone on the TFS subreddit actually made a point that I really like even though I kind of like Super.
Super is a sequel that treats DBZA as canon.
My various fanfics. That is something that treats discussing Super in relation to everything else weird. People try and point to things in Super to make arguments about the series, but a lot of Super seems based more on fan perception/desire than how Dragon Ball actually was. But it's official (sort of, the manga and anime divide makes it even more complicated) so what do you say to that?
Yeah, I look at Dragon Ball Kai where you have Goku and Gohan have a fairly heartfelt talk before Goku fights Majin Vegeta.
And then you go to Super and Goku is just like "lol what is kissing, I never did that before".
I refuse to believe they could have two kids and Chi-Chi has never tried to tell Goku about kissing. It's just too ridiculous, especially given her personality.
That's on Toriyama.
It's in both version, which means it's in his script.
So take it up with him.
One Strip! One Strip!![]()
Toriyama also went back to Yamcha being afraid of women despite having him get over that in the manga (and mentioning him having a girlfriend at the end of the Cell arc).
I'm sure Toriyama's own perception of the characters has been flanderized to what they're known for over what he originally wrote.
Are you saying he's flanderizing his own characters now, or am I misunderstanding you?
Whatever the case, there are a lot of issues everywhere, on all sides I'd imagine.
One Strip! One Strip! To be fair, Goku's behavior in terms of fighting is actually largely consistent with what it was in the manga, or does no one remember Goku refusing Kami's help to fight Piccolo, simply because it'd be against the rules and he didn't want to lose the tournament, despite the fact Piccolo winning would have led to his death and the deaths of all his friends, as well as the Earth getting conquered?
Let's see if you can get past my Beelzemon. Mephiles, WARP SHINKA!Zamasu, twisted as he was, was at least motivated by a desire for eliminating evil and having a peaceful universe.
Freeza is just a power-hungry sadist who wants to kill and torture people for fun.
Pretty much.
One thing that's impressive about Frieza, is that among all the other villains and their motivations (wanting to rule the world, wanting to also rule the world WANTING TO BE TALLER, Being the embodiment of evil and and asshole, being the son of the asshole and wanting to rule the world, wanting immortality, being a bunch of punks, wanting to be perfect, eating those punks, and then just wanting a good fight, and being an eldritch abomination), Frieza's motivation is just cause I'm a dick and I can.
Even into Super, he really remains one of the more evil characters, and lacks even Zamasu's seeming well intentioned extremism. He's got no illusions that what he's doing is right. He just does it because he's stronger than everybody else, and there's no one who can stop him.

One Strip! One Strip!

Why would he consider training? He is stronger than everyone except an outright god.
He actually purposefully down powers himself and lounges around all day in a chair cause he can't be bothered.
