He never really tried to redeem anyone else either.
They just ended up deciding to not be assholes anymore while fighting him for one reason or another.
One Strip! One Strip! They've been super emphasizing how irredeemable Frieza is. Like even though Vegeta took a while to become good, he was "the lesser evil" for a good while. In this arc, Frieza is still the evilest person out of every contestant we've seen so far. Even team asshole looks good compared to him.

Even his own alternate universe doppelgänger is probably less evil via pure pragmatism.
I don't think Frost would sell out his own universe for instance.
One Strip! One Strip!Weird, Super Saiyan Rage wasn't added to XV2, but a Sword of Hope transformation was.
Since it's treated as a normal skill (like the Fruit of Might), you can stack it on top of whatever transformation you have currently. It stays on as long as you keep your ki from completely draining or if you don't use the Hope Slash finisher.
Goku has tried to give Frieza so many second chances he's given up.
With Cell, I have always questioned his moral agency. He's on the monster page because the other androids have moral agency and he does things without it being Dr Gero's mission, however his upbringing still leads this into question. 17 and 18 were human and 16 was programmed with a softer side, which is likely the only reason why he was able to put his "kill Goku" programming on hold. Cell however grew up in a test tube, spending his formative years with a computer programming him to carry on Gero's legacy, be perfect and not a single moral lesson.
I honestly don't think he could choose to not be evil or at least amoral, just what type of evil. He was built to eat thousands of people for a madman's vendetta. Plus we don't know how much of his personality was pre-programmed. Cell likely suffers from an Evil Cannot Comprehend Good situation except in his case it's genuine because he was raised to be a narcissist who will do anything to become perfect.
Cell always struck me as the kind of sociopath created due to shitty parenting and being insulated rather than that he chooses to be. It's a shame Toriyama never decided to take that "nature versus nurture" issue and make Cell a more self-aware villain. He'd probably have daddy issues
Dr Gero should've really had a game plan. We don't know what his plan for Cell was from due to Cell being an Unreliable Narrator who found "his life's purpose" in a near-death encounter. Or if he even had a plan. Too bad he never figured Cut Lex Luthor a Check was a trope

I assumed Super Saiyan Rage was mostly an evolution of Super Saiyan 2 out of desperation. I mean, the form is identical to the normal super saiyan other than the blue aura. Maybe the aura is the power of humanity itself, who knows, the writer didn't and it was writing deux ex machina after Diabolus ex machina.
I think Frost will get redemeed in this arc. I mean, after seeing Frieza carnage, he will think "This guy... is a monster", and stop his evil ways. Or not, and maybe I just want my happy Frieza.
That's what I didn't like about Cell, you know? Under all that smug personality, lies a villain without much motivation. I mean, Buu is an eldritch abomination that didn't know any better, and Frieza has a empire to attend to. Even other villains in the franchise like Baby has more motivation than Cell, and Baby is a rehash of Cell, Garlik Jr and Hatchyjack :/

To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back. The only reason some people wanted Cell back is because Freeza already got his turn. Cell would honestly be a worse choice because the destruction of his universe is what he was trying to do at the end of the Android Saga. So basically it's just the call of desperate fans who aren't thinking it out.
Cell is omnicidal, but it is not the goal what motivates him, but the journey. He doesn't want to see everybody dead, he wants to kill everybody.
TBH, I'd like to see Freeza and Cell team up, but not in the way filler handled them, as So Last Season Those Two Bad Guys. Those two would have contempt for each other if true to character, and the smugness they have would make for delicious passive agressive combat.

You know, on the topic of bringing back old villains, I've always wondered if the series could have pulled off a redemption arc for Mercenary Tao. He was a pretty nasty guy with few redeeming qualities, but it's not like that stopped other DB villains from making a Heel–Face Turn. Plus, you could argue that, as a hired assassin, he was just doing his job.
No beer?! But if there's no beer, then there's no beef or beans!![]()
Yeah, to be fair to Taopaipai, the tailor got an insanely good deal of that when you look at it from a monetary standpoint. The cost of making Tao's outfit is nothing compared to the, what, hundred million zeni it costs to hire Tao to kill someone.
Provisional titles for the next few episodes of DBS came out!
- 98 - Impermanent! Universe to Despair!!
- 99 - Krillin's Latent Power!!
- 100 - Awakening of a Berserk Warrior!
- 101 - The Approaching Warrior of Justice!
Masako X did a video on the subject. He jokingly said that Caulifla was going to lie to Kale, saying she is in love with Cabba, in order to awaken her berserker form again.
Cabba truly is Vegeta protegee in order to get cucked like that.
To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.If anything, it feels more like Caulifla is Goku's counterpart (natural talent for combat and also prone to getting very excited about battle), Kale is Vegeta's counterpart (obsessed with the former Saiyan and prone to bouts of rage brought on by jealousy), and Cabba is Gohan's counterpart (the odd one out in their respective trios and the weakest one despite supposedly having the most potential, also the most outwardly heroic).

Cell was never merciful. Any act of "mercy" was just to prolong his own enjoyment, and he makes it very clear that after he proves his superiority he's just going to take his time killing everyone on the planet, because that's what he enjoys more than anything else.
