Piccolo was dead at the time and they were going to Namek so they could revive him and the others. Of course Gohan would be thinking about him instead of his dad seeing as how Goku was more or less perfectly fine and would be catching up to them in a month or so.
As for the gi thing, I point you to the Boo Saga when Gohan returned to Earth after getting his potential unlocked and he asked Kibito to give him the same outfit his dad wore.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!![]()

I can't tell if you're serious, or just intentionally forgetting events that took place in the series because it's convenient for your argument that Goku is a much worse father figure than Piccolo.
Everything Goku did for Gohan was literally pointed out, and you just ignored it.

A lazy millennial who's good at what he does. It's also a one hit kill move in Pokemon: Dragon Ball Z Team Training. You need to have Goku in your party so he can learn it from the Move Tutor on the Sevi I Islands.

<Sees Yamcha taken out in one hit without even doing anything>
Welp, seems they did their research.
One Strip! One Strip! And that is bullshit. There's no reason to not hold Vegeta accountable for his actions, or in actions just because he used to be evil. He's supposed to have made a Heel–Face Turn, hold him accountable for the bad as well as the good. That people can go "Ah, look at how much Vegeta has grown, he's so much better than Goku!" when ever he does something even remotely touching but then go "Eh, it's just Vegeta being Vegeta" when he does sometime dubious is frustrating as hell.
I'd also like to point out the weird irony of people bitching about Goku saving Dende and Satan. Normally, heroes not putting their own blood ties ahead of everything else would be considered noble, but apparently since Goku does it just means he's a bad father who hates his kids or something. Again, in a situation where he tried to get them but couldn't make it in time, while Vegeta did nothing. It's bullshit no matter how you try and spin it.
Edit: And if you want something new to the discussion about this fatherhood business, I think a large part of the reason people cling to it is Piccolo. So many people have forged this idea in their head of the evil monster turned kind and gentle father figure to his former worst enemies son. If you point out that, no, that's not actually the case, then the character probably becomes a lot less complex (to them) and basically shatters their image of him.
Also, people kind of just like shitting on Goku, so that's a big part of it as well.
And @Memers, maybe Yakuza got a bit heated, but it really does seem like your ignoring, exaggerating, or removing context from a lot of things to argue your point. No one denies that Gohan is important to Piccolo or vice-versa, that is not the same thing as Gohan looking at him as a father figure, or being a better one than Goku.

This an internet forum, a place where you are free to discuss this type of stuff. If you're tired of these arguments, either steer the conversation elsewhere or simply don't participate, because nobody is forcing anyone to take part in a discussion you have no interest in.
So yes, I will get snappy because with you because you're complaining about nothing. Nobody is breaking any rules, nobody was being hostile. All you did was come in here and say "why are you guys talking about something I don't care about?" Not contributing anything?
EDIT: I apologize if I'm a little aggressive today, I just lost my job so I'm a little on edge.

A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Well there you go. Thinking something that's not true is one problem. People can be corrected, but it's hard to fight against a misconception that's born out of people who enjoy emphasizing that misconception. Even worse when there's even a grain of truth in it, because they will use that tiny grain and turn it into an entire field.
Look at poor Yamcha (who's Memetic Loser status has far more than a grain of truth to it) for how much people will enjoy shitting on a character.
One Strip! One Strip!

Super recently brought that up to the forefront too.
