And next week on Kai is gonna be the fight between Videl and Spopovich...

Yay...

[up][up]

Wholeheartedly agree. Kibito doesn't really have much of a purpose and just feels kind of extraneous to have around.

Huh I now wonder how TFS is gonna handle Krillen vs. Pintar. It be a real moment for the little guy, especially in front of his darling daughter.

[up] At least the roided-up retard gets his just desserts from Babidi. So there that.

Gohan should have beat his ass a little at least.

I guess Power Levels are 100% irrelevant by this point, if Goku and Gohan imagine Krillin to be strong enough to put up something resembling a fight against Basil and the Next Episode Preview indicates that he's actually way stronger than they estimate he is.

Well, Power Levels were kinda supposed to irrelevant weren't they?

He introduced them in order to subvert them in the first place.

Though they ended up still being pretty importantt because everyone else was too low.

I imagine it's just the anime where they will try and justify it though. I imagine the manga isn't gonna be as kind about his chances.

No. No they were not. That's pretty much fanon, because nowhere has it been said he introduced them to subvert them and that goes completely against him doing the opposite and repeatedly showing that the actual numbers are accurate, just not the methods the villains used to measure them were.

In Japan, concepts like Battle Powers are very popular. It's westerners who have a distaste for them.

Shin and Kibito didn't want to stay fused anyway, they were shocked when they were told it was permanent.

Besides, Shin is cuter when he's not Kibito Kai.

Goku can be hurt by bullets, Krillin has apparently received a permanent SSJ 3 level power boost (or possibly greater) off screen, Roshi is apparently now stronger than Yamcha and Chaozu...

Super- the anime version, at least- really hates consistency, doesn't it?

Well, it seems about 50/50 for westerners.

Some like the power "tiers" and the numerical ratings. Some like one but not the other. Some dislike both.

In Japan the numerical ratings are quite popular however.

[up] Consistency killed Super's parents.

I never got the power level hate myself. They're pretty harmless in the grand scheme and at times it just seems like people blame them for characters losing focus.

I just tune out any "Westerners/Japanese like/dislike this thing" talk because it always feels like people generalizing based on limited information.

Anyway, I'd completely forgotten how they tried setting up Supreme Kai as a sinister guy early on. It feels so silly knowing what's coming up.

[up][up] This Very Wiki is full of lies and completely unsubstantiated claims. Do not believe a single thing you read on the wiki.

[up] Obviously it's a generalization. But it's still easy to observe what is popular on a whole, I'm not claiming what every westerner/Japanese fan thinks, just what is more popular there.

Like it's not a generalization to say Dragon Ball is popular in Japan.

I mean, power levels are technically a thing in anything where fighting is involved. Some Dragon Ball fans just take it very literally with actual numbers like from Freiza's scouters. Given that this is shonen, however, you also have to assume that power levels can be very fluid. One guy can suddenly be very weak for little explained reason while a weak character can become strong very quickly as the plot demands.

So basically, did the humans just jump up a few tiers in the power levels arena? Yeah. Why? Because. Its anime/manga. This happens.

No you couldn't because I don't use the wiki.

This is a forum.

[up] Although they weren't that fluid in the manga, which makes it noteworthy when other products are more fluid about it.

I mean DB functions pretty much on strong as they need to be.

Its just one constant dick-measuring contest after the other.

The Cell Saga exemplifies that pretty well for example.

Like it's not a generalization to say Dragon Ball is popular in Japan.

Well yeah, but people also generalize the opinions for specific aspects of the work that's harder to measure consensus on. I always roll my eyes when people talk about the general western opinion on something smaller because it's almost always something I've seen different opinions on in various places, so it makes me think that when people say the general Japanese opinion on tiny aspect is X it's because there hasn't been effort made to look into a variety of places.

Saiga Since: Feb, 2011 Relationship Status: Getting away with murder
#54675: Mar 25th 2017 at 10:34:28 PM

That's kind of hypocritical unless you're also researching it yourself.

In addition, you're making a large assumption that people who talk about trends don't know what you're talking about - which is a generalization in itself.

The different opinions on battle powers can be seen in the fanbase easily enough - it's one of the most common complaints you see pop up, and yet you also have many fans obsessing over them. The Saiyan arc is where Toriyama was trying to introduce ideas to make Dragon Ball more popular with Japanese fans, which is also where battle powers were introduced. Furthermore, the concept is very prevalent in popular Japanese media (compared to western media) appearing in many other shonen titles.

It's not just something to determine looking at Dragon Ball.
