Thing is, true, Star Wars is perhaps more popular in terms of popcultural osmosis than Dragon Ball... but that's only because it's bigger in the USA and most of the pop culture of the western world originates in the USA, when it comes to the internet.
Outside the internet, though... I think that, while more people are aware of Star Wars than there are aware of Dragon Ball, more people have actually seen at least some Dragon Ball than they've seen Star Wars.
himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimariAgain, I think the problem lies in that you're looking at only one piece of the puzzle. I've noticed that the GT thing is, again, mostly a USA thing.
Yes, it didn't do amazing all over the world like the original Dragon Ball did, but outside the USA, its Base Breaker nature is... well, I can tell you that at least in Argentina I don't see anywhere near the amount of people calling for Fanon Discontinuity and piling hate on it that I see from USA fans.
I still blame this on the rap, by the by.
himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimariWell one, the rap is awesome, two, there's a full version of that rap, and three, I've said before I once watched all of GT as a kid, back when it was on TV, on a Japanese channel (when those still existed) in the original dub; I think I've already explained how much I like GT.
Let's see if you can get past my Beelzemon. Mephiles, WARP SHINKA!When phrased like that I could see the point. At least I wouldn't call it inaccurate. Scope wise Dragon Ball is most definitely capable of matching Star Wars and Lord of the Rings.
The actual rapping is hit or miss but I still think the music, especially the wailing is pretty good.
Huh I guess you can compare Super to The Force Awakens kinda.
Funny thing is the scope is kinda small. I mean what brought down Frieza who is a space emperor like Sideous & his army was just 5 warriors.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."@Gojira
When did your personal opinion of GT become anything I discussed?
I also didn't say anything about the Rap's quality. I just said I blamed it for GT's poor reception in the USA.
And that you cannot deny - because GT is a Base Breaker in the USA, with a far bigger hatedom than fandom. Or far more vocal hatedom anyway. Either works.

himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimariFunny thing to think about is that Star Wars is more successful in passing the torch than Dragon Ball ever did.
I mean if TFA was more like Super then Luke & the main trio would be the main characters again at the expense of whoever's left & new.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Indeed. Dragon Ball does have trouble passing on the torch both Doylist and Watsonian reasons. The Doylist reason being that the kids aren't really to interested in fighting for its own sake or even endless self improvement. The Watsonian reason being that Goku is essentially Dragon Ball's darling that getting rid of him or retiring him would be ludicrous.and he is simply too popular to get rid off. Not mention Toriyama doesn't feel that Gohan, Goten, Kid Trunks, Pan and Uub cannot carry on the series themselves. If Super were more like The Force Awakens, we could see a new main character take over the spot but it isn't gonna happen anytime soon.
"Mai waifu."What?
Are the kids unpopular?
I know Toriyama himself is convinced only Goku can ever be the hero and that others are unsuited to that task, but I never got the impression no one cared about Gohan when he was the main character.
One Strip! One Strip!

It also referred to Z as having a series of sagas that are "only rivaled by such epics as Star Wars and Lord of the Rings in size and scope."
