I love the fact that Fairy Tail has tons of Action Girls who can more than put up a fight against their male counterparts. But most of the female cast haven't been properly written, which has been a issue for many years in Fairy Tail, to the point where I don't care what happens to them and that's the problem.
I'd rather take 10 Action Girls who are very well written, that a 100 who are bland, uninteresting and poorly written. That's just the way I see it.

That's a fair way to look at it.
I don't want to be that guy, but all this stuff should be discussed in either the Fairy Tail thread (though that has enough negativity, mostly from me) or other threads..
One Strip! One Strip! Why is it that you people think
writers are obligated to have women in their stories? Toriyama, for one reason or another, only had one serious female fighter in his series. The fact is this is Shonen and meant for young boys, so nobody should hold the lack of "Streng womenz wit teh hi powah lebuls" against Dragonball (and really, if power levels determine how good a character is, Broly must be the best character ever). You would have a case if Toriyama introduced women only to have them get humiliated by men, be subservient to men and to lose to men. This has never been the case in this series.
Let's look at the 1st half characters that manage to stay relevant in Z: Bulma, Krillin and Piccolo.
I mean really, you consider Fairy Tail not sexist? Women there are just objects for horny fanboys to fap to, in addition to being awful sues. The only "big" Shonen that treat women as equals to men are Bleach and (very) arguably One Piece.

Go idea Handsome Rob, lets move on to better things...
What's your favorite technique or special ability in all of Dragon Ball?
It's a no brainier for me... KAAAA... MEEEE... HAAAA... MEEE... HAAAAAAAAAA!!!! I'm nearly twenty and I still do that move, while no one's looking of course, in vain that one day it will work.
Although the solar flare is close second, I would spam the shit out of that move. Boring, yes. Simple, yes. Practical, yes.
You raise a damn good point Cruherrx, but let it go. And lets start talking about Dragon Ball again. What's your favorite technique or special ability in Dragon Ball?

Well Fairy Tail shows that you can have powerful Female characters and still kinda be sexist in a way (Only Erza often gets to do anything, and she's pretty much never lost).
Dragon Ball has few combat capable female characters, and how it treats them varies. All of them are good, but with the exception of 18, eventually get beaten by males.
Then they get left in the dust like every other character.
I'd say it's one of those things where you can see good and bad in everything. 18 still has a good win record (beating Vegeta, and then Super Saiyan Trunks and Goten, though that one was more due to outsmarting them).
.....Again though, do we really want to bog down the thread in this discussion.
I agree on the Solar Flare. It's possibly the most useful technique in the series, cause it doesn't even rely on Power at all.

Oh come on. You cannot seriously insult FT for being sexist while praising Bleach's women.
OH SHIT! NEL HAS HUGE TITS AND A HISTORY WITH NNOITRA 1 THEY ARE GONNA FIGHT AND HAVE A CONCLUSION TO THEIR BACKSTORY!
Bitch get outta the way so Kenpachi can beat him.
And then of course Orihime's demotion from interesting character to Ms. Pure Princess in the Arrancar Arc. Also she was entirely worthless in spite of the arc starting off because of her great and unique power. She was just a piece of ass to be saved by our hero, Ichigo Kurosaki, perpetual rescuer of Damsels In Distress.
Like I said, Erza was stronger than the main character for most of Part 1, while Ichigo's friends, men and women alike, are pretty much useless compared to him.

This is partially my fault as well, because I joined in. I will say this again: Do we really want to talk about this here?
It's the kind of topic that causes threads to implode on themselves.

One Strip! One Strip!
Yeah. I was thinking that the Death Beam is pretty good too actually.
Small charge time, fast, and piercing power like a bullet.
I was also thinking about Piccolo's Special Beam Canon, and it occurred to me why he made it:
In his fight with Goku at the World Martial Arts tournament, his most damaging attack on the latter was....
The Mouth blast attack that pierced Goku's shoulder. So Five years pass and what new technique does he make?
A piercing technique from his fingers that drill through people and even armour.
That's learning from past experience.
One Strip! One Strip!....they can get intense sometimes.
But then again, name me a debate that doesn't.
One Strip! One Strip!Soooooooo...
If you could learn three techniques in Dragon Ball what would they be?
Me?
- Instant Transmission - Move at the speed of light to anywhere in the Universre... according to the Funimation Dub
- Solar Flare - 100% success in every battle the technique has been used in
- Kamehameha - All time favorite technique

Death Beam, Solar Flare, and Kibito Kai's version of Instant Transmission.
Blind an enemy, Teleport somewhere else, than shoot them quickly.
Wash, rinse, repeat.
One Strip! One Strip!

That's less a problem with Erza or women and more a problem with FT's writing in general. FT has a ton of Action Girls who fight and are among the strongest in their verse which is a rarity in a lot of shounen. Erza herself was stronger than the main character for a good while.
As for RK, it has Kaouru and Misao who have been trained in combat. They just suck compared to anyone half-way competent or important ie. men. If you are going to have a grand total of two notable female fighters, and both of them are at best mid-tiers (and that's being extremely, extremely generous), you are doing it wrong. Kaoru is particularly bad because she runs her own dojo and is the current master in a unique style but she is expected to stay behind and look wistfully after her man.
