A video about what Master Roshi could do to be useful to the team:
I think most of those have some traction accept for Drunken Fist (at the speed these guys will be moving, Roshi will be lucky to even graze them) and the Thundershock (Too much brute force, and he lacks it in this fight).
The Mafuuba's value depends on if he can really use it in that manner, but it will get more mileage from it's other users (Piccolo and Tien can create clones of themselves and Mafuuba the hell out of as many people as possible).
There's also the possibility that Roshi knows other techniques he never used against anyone in the series. He's been around for a while, so he has to have learned a few tricks.

One Strip! One Strip!Toei will find a way to make it happen even if it is inconsistent with their own rules. Then again, Super seems to emphasize skill over power so I could be wrong.
Edit: But everyone knows that Yamcha only exists to show ho badass a character is despite the fact that it got redundant in Dragon ball and it is obvious that Yamcha is Toriyama's whipping boy. Yamcha got beat by a strong fighter?! Omigosh, that fighter must be badass.

"Mai waifu."Pretty much.
Toriyama has already made it clear he doesn't think Yamcha can hack it.
That's why he was left out of the mass Frieza Goon battle (which was the best chance to show him actually doing well in a fight, even if against Mooks).
So there's really nothing more to say on the matter. Yamcha isn't going to fight, and the Toriyama doesn't want him to fight.

That I can buy.
I mean, Yamcha is a Memetic Loser to both Japanese and American fandoms, so it makes more sense to go with popular characters.
Plus I'm convinced that Toriyama would write him as being taken out first to show how serious the situation is, because just like Digimon killing Leomon, it's something that happens so often that Toriyama probably feels like he has to do it.
That last one is my pure personal opinion however, and has zero evidence.
Actually, not using Trunks and Goten is smart. They are not reliable, to say nothing of their strongest form being limited by a time limit (that shortens the more power they use).
I don't have enough faith that SS 3 Gotenks wouldn't run out of power and de-fuse at a crucial moment.

Said as if most of these people are particularly reliable?

Goten and Trunks at least have experience working with each other, and probably would work well wit their dads, Gohan, and Piccolo.
Compare to Tien, who is probably easily the least group socialized of them all.

The lack of team work is gonna be a massive issue.
Then again, attempts to act as a team has either fail due to the enemy being way too strong, or someone one their side deliberately refusing help when it actually might make a difference.
It might take a while for the others to get used to the idea of someone actually wanting help and that they might actually be able to help.

It's a matter of perspective. At least Tien won't accidentally fuck you over.
He ranged the shit out of that park so much it can range itself while he's gone.

himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimari17's prolly a God already cause of all the time spent again ranging the shit outta that park.
Ya know due to the tournament starting less than 2 days the heroes really don't have much time to plan shit. I hope Buu & Goku don't actually screw them over once the tournament starts.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."...An accidental fuck over is, by definition, accidental. There's no guarantees either way with that, and with that mind set, at least go with the guys who are much harder to knock out and more likely to be able to knock out others.
Edit: Of course, this is all without assuming wonky power-scaling to somehow make him and Roshi stronger than the boys despite no indication of that.

There is a difference between being evil & being an antagonist.
He prolly realizes that survival trumps morality in this case sadly enouh.
