Second Place Is for Losers; this is why Vegeta gets so much shit despite being stronger than everyone else not named Goku (or Beerus, Whis, Champa, and Vados). He almost never gets a chance to show off he actually is competent because his entire existence is simply to be Goku's measuring stick.
His entire purpose as a character and foil to Goku is to be everything Goku isn't to emphasize Goku's qualities even more. He's meant to be nothing but a second banana. Or to be hilarious; he's the Daffy Duck to Goku's Bugs Bunny.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does. You're assuming that "has a broken ability" = "can hit people with said broken ability".
Furthermore, Vegetto could fight on as a jawbreaker, and it's likely that Beerus or Whis would just No-Sell it because of reasons.
himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimariExcept wasn't that due to Evil Buu either using his own or reflecting it back? How much of that was due to him being stronger than Fat Buu, and how much of it was due to him possibly understanding how it works and being able to use that to his advantage? Like, if we're using GT as an example, Majuub was hit by his Chocolate Kamehameha and got eaten by Bebi, yet he was able to undo it completely at his leisure.
Let's see if you can get past my Beelzemon. Mephiles, WARP SHINKA!Evil Boo literally blew the candy beam back...
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I know it's been pages since a couple people did these, but here's my predictions for who's going to be important in the tournament:
Goku vs Hit: The Tournament Sequel isn't happening, or at least it won't be happening in the way it seem. Most obviously because the "big rematch" never happens unless the stakes and scope change immensely (a la Goku not rematching Vegeta until the Majin situation), but the most recent episode(s) where the did rematch clinches it: us getting to see their tricks in an actual but ultimately less meaningful and weighty head-to-head against each other, most likely because in the actual tournament they're going to be using those skills in other situations.
Most cynically speaking, Hit is probably going to get Worfed - by someone who's not Zeno, because we already know Zeno's way more powerful than everybody. He'll either pull a Piccolo and end up banding with the heroes somehow (as apposed to Vegeta's "I'll spend an arc not deciding whether or not I want to kill you and generally being a dick, and then band together in the sense that I decide not to kill you after all"), or just die.
My guess is Buu's probably going to be more important than in the last tournament, but in a more physical way. I feel like he'll end up being to this tournament what Piccolo was to the last one: gets a decent amount of fights, but is narratively there as a kind of physical stall to show what strong enemies can do while still also being able to win a few.
Gohan... I have no freaking clue. Color me unsure of what their actual plan is with the character.
Unless we're getting some big thing about the Turtle Style and its students - unlikely - Roshi will probably be there as he's been so far: occasionally pull out some badassery, but mainly give the occasional wise advice and/or be funny. If they do it Dark Tournament style and have the various fights have differing ways of filtering through the opposing teams, I expect those arrangements and/or whatever off-the-ring plots there are - if we're going to have those - to keep him from fighting often. Probably the same with Piccolo.
On that note, though, remembering the Dark Tournament, the huge nature of the tourney plus the fact that we have no idea what's coming up leads itself to a lot opportunities for both the characters and the storyline. A big tourney arc that's more than just a few fights has the opening for major subplots during the proverbial "offseason," and with the number of teams we're seeing made it's possible that the tourney proceedings are going to be more complex than simple single elimination.
What if their heavy hitters are detained by some other team's skulduggery, or have to help stop X from doing Y bad thing, leaving Roshi, Krillin, 18, 17, and Piccolo to fight an opposing team themselves? What if someone gets Majined, or Mafuba'd, or something else that's weird and odd and totally new that completely changes the way the story proceeds for a while? What if Goku and/or Vegeta are forced to go all out extremely early, leaving him drained as he was after his fight with Hit, leaving Gohan his chance to shine. What if Marron turns out to be the reincarnation of Broly? And that's not even mentioning all the ways writers could contrive giving any of the characters involved physical power-ups, stunning revelations or personal/emotional upheavals. Etc.
I feel like, with the number of characters and scope of the tournament, the success of the arc is going to hinge on whether they nail that. Otherwise we might get a lot of tedium.
I still suspect that we're getting a lot of Krillin and 18 family scenes and general happiness because we're leading up to something big happening to them - possibly something nasty, and probably in the upcoming tournament. My guess is 17 will ultimately be a supporting character in that subplot, rather than getting prominence all of his own.

I seriously think that the Dark Tournament was one of the best Tournament Arcs in any anime.
My various fanfics.I know jack all about Yu Yu Hakosho, so can someone explain to me what happens in the Dark Tournament arc?
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Okay, so the elimination round is on a boat. The boat that takes you to the island where the tournament is being held. Whoever's left alive on the boat when it gets to the island enters the tournament.
The main tournament itself has a wide and fun cast of characters that all fight in unique ways and have unique skills and it has a fun, quirky ring announcer. Also the stadium and the ring are ginormous. You win by knockout, ring-out, surrender, or murder.
As the tournament progresses, our heroes reveal new skills and power-ups they've developed over the course of the tournament and from fighting new opponents, all the while building up to the final match: Yusuke Urameshi vs. Toguro the Younger.
Toguro was basically YYH Freeza
My various fanfics.Flame Of Recca (which was pretty much the Naruto to Yu Yu Hakusho's Dragonball... that's not even a joke really), Yu Yu Hakusho, and Dragonball do Tournament Arc's right.
Fun characters and creative action sequences all around.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Yeah. Naruto's was the Chunin Exams. Hunter X Hunter had one in a similar vein. They're less noticable because the traditional "elimination tournament" is actually a component of a larger series of trials. You could count the entirety of the Chunin Exam as a tournament given its structure, or you could count the literal single-elimination tournament that's set up during the third and final round.
Bleach didn't really have one and was probably better off for lack of it.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!

I didn't reply when I saw the first response but I didn't expect to get that many in support of Vegeta. Seriously, I've just watched him beat over half of the Universe 6 team in two different forms of media now. Not to mention he's still Goku's rival, got to surpass him again however briefly, is still one of the front running characters-and Super isn't even the first series to do this.
Granted, the Goku and Vegeta show is proving superior to the just Goku till Vegeta comes back at the very end show but it's still annoying when Goku's promise to the kaioshin was that he would not stop training so that The Fat Majin Buu would never be able to beat him, that Goku's wish was for the small Majin Buu to be reborn, that Vegeta had admitted Kakarot was simply better than him, no excuses, not even being the next strongest after Goku at that point. I admitted to enjoying Vegeta's matches with Frost and Maggetta, I wasn't even complaining about his success in that instance, yet I still have to elaborate? Unless he beats Goku or the strongest enemy in a clear display of superiority is Vegeta not successful? Because by that standard Goku has nothing but Freezer to his name, and I mean that going all the way back to Tao Pai Pai! Maybe Piccolo Jr depending on whether or not you think the free punch he allowed negates Kami's interference.
