I thought the origin of the Potara was common knowledge. Toriyama didn't want to recycle Toei's Gogeta, so to keep things fresh he introduced another type of fusion.

I guess I need to get out of the Kanzenshuu circles.

I'm not sure why he didn't just tell them Holy shit guys! Don't do that! I call dibs!

Though I suppose it worked out rather well, as is often the case with the stuff he makes up off the top of his head.

You should also remember Toriyama doesn't plan very far ahead and has written on a week to week basis before.

I'm very well aware of it. I wish he did plan a little farther ahead so that he didn't just end up discarding characters once they served their purpose or giving them slightly longer character arcs.

Though I can't totally complain about the results....well, I can, but I'd be pretty much wrong.

Hold your horses guys, remember those wonky translations of the episode summaries just a week or so ago? Weeeell...

We're not out of the woods yet. The little bit where "Zamasu becomes the sky", is clarified in the Jump preview as his particles spreading across the city, and yeah, he's still very much "alive".

So yeah, Zen'o button.

Vegetto was just called "Vegeku" in the Portuguese version. Since I never really liked the notion of "Kakarotto" still being a thing after the Saiyan Saga, that's the name I prefer.

About the Potara retcon... If I was the one doing it, I wouldn't put a time limit on it. I'd just have it so that a Potara fusion between mortals is more unstable, and easier to undo by interference (such as Buu's weird stomach). This way, the fight would play out as we saw, but Zamasu would be the one to break the fusion by using a divine trick (though it would take him a while to realize he can do that).

[up] Same for me until Dragon Ball kai at least. Then it became Kakarot.

I enjoyed this episode too. But it reinforced what I felt ever since episode 60. Present Zamasu was killed too soon for me to properly enjoy the rest of this arc. I can't help but feel he was wasted and Future Zamasu's involvment on the contrary felt forced. For the rest it made sense for Trunks to be the one landing the final blow on Zamasu and not Vegetto. I'm bummed he was only there for a few minutes but the fight was nice while it lasted.

I like Vegeta because he does stuff like this.

He's a walking, talking, egotistical, bipedal alien tank.

[up][up][up][up]Honestly, the PT dub always played fast and loose with names. This is the dub where Piccolo is called Satan, after all.

Either way, it's an aspect of Vegeta's that I very much dislike. I can understand him doing so back in the Saiyan saga (clear disrespect towards Goku's preference for Earth), but to keep doing it after Namek, it's immature behaviour.

So since Freeza Saga Vegeta was pretty much in the same mindset than Saiyan Saga Vegeta. Cell Saga Vegeta is when he was at his most immature and prideful and Buu Saga Vegeta was Vegeta relapsing into his bad habits before finally admitting Goku was a friend and not an enemy, it was fitting I think. After that you can chalk it up to the force of habit.

Just watched Vegetto VS Boohan again. That is still easily my favorite fight in all of Dragon Ball. If only Vegetto VS Zamasu played out more like that. As it stands, the only really good move Vegetto got off was ganking Zamasu with the Spirit Sword (which was amazing).

I maintain that Vegeta's highest stat in video games should be his defense, not Ki attacks.

You know, Goku finally becoming world champion after his third try was nice, but that tournament was really disappointing compared to the one Tien won. Tien was clearly Goku's equal, someone he had to actually out think to defeat, and actually held the illegal advantage against him for a bit before throwing it away, rather than the other way around. I get why they did it, TV Tropes would call it Contrasting Sequel Antagonist, if you know, Dragon Ball wasn't a continuous work. But they should have just made it clearer that Goku was simply treating this as a tournament match and had everyone else agree to dog pile Piccolo Jr once the announcer had declared a winner, Kami stepping on the stage and not drawing a disqualification was stupid.

And you know what else? Piccolo was very inconsistent. He says, by observing Goku's movements, that he knows Goku can't beat him, sees Goku remove his weighted clothing, doesn't have any reconsideration, and still gets his ass kicked for two chapters, outmaneuvered and humiliated at pretty much every turn, every seeming triumph immediately countered, even his fatal wounding of Goku technically being a loss since he still didn't beat the ten count. Hell, he took a pretty good thrashing from Kurinrin, lamenting that taking over the world would be harder than he expected but then claimed to be worth a thousand of the other martial artists, including the one who just successfully blocked his punch?

It wasn't bad, I just expected better. Most of that arc was made by the wham moments. We know Piccolo was "coming back"(and he under delivered) but what, Yajirobe, Tao Pai Pai, Chichi, Kami performing demonicallygodly possessing someone? Toriyama really pulled out all the stops for that bracket, huh? And the sight of everyone running in fear of Piccolo was nice, but seriously, he wiped out every standing structure in visible radius, were all those buildings just conveniently empty? And how the hell did he manage to do that but only blow the tiles off the floor?

Okay, now without having watched Sunday's episode, because I don't watch the Super AnimeAn enemy who has been consistently kicking the crap out of the saiyans performs fusion with another enemy the saiyans can't beat. The saiyans themselves, after using their most dire desperation techniques, perform fusion, which results in a narrow advantage in a battle that slips away from them when a fusion we've seen break apart on them before for no readily explained reason breaks apart on them for an explained reason? Somebody find a post? Have I ever came off like the biggest super fan on this thread, anywhere on this wiki? But it seems like a pretty silly thing to complain about.

From what I can gather, the villain's final moments weren't all that impressive coming after excellent build up, his defeat was pretty lame, and some elements would have been better moved around or omitted outright. That sounds just like Piccolo Jr! The fact that The Fat Majin Buu has basically become Yajirobe 2.0 and hasn't even had his "Ate Cymbal" moment yet seems like a much bigger failing on the part of "Super" than anything anyone has said about the last episode. The fact that the structure of Super means we'll seemingly never have another character to outpace Vegeta the way Piccolo Jr did Tien is a bigger problem. Perhaps it will be like GT, where I actually watch it later and realize it really was that bad but even Goku and Vegeta dumping their energy into another fighter after losing their fusion sounds about right, since Battle Of Gods already established pooling energy can give someone a temporary power boost. I liken it to that time Goku explained to Tien he could tell what was going around him even if his eyes couldn't see it and then later demonstrating it by finding God's bottle in the enlarged Piccolo, which naturally should have been too dark to see in. And speaking of, in his first martial arts tournament, Goku created much drama by almost getting ring outs by sending foes flying but in the his match with Piccolo Jr, where he should have been much stronger, the two mainly just send each other skidding across the ground. Even the wall, which had been shattered in the previously two tournaments, only got a little chunk knocked off when Piccolo hit Goku into it. Scale of distance and damage stopped equating to scale of power during the final fight with Daimo Piccolo. The explosions of his blasts were the same size each time but Goku says only the first would have been strong enough to kill him as Piccolo's energy went down. Don't know why those complaints are coming up now.
