BlackYakuza, are you just trying to disagree with me for the sake of it? Okay, I'll just assume you mean there is also a Toriyama hates Vegeta rumor, because I was talking about the Toriyama felt forced by fans to keep using Goku, when in actuality that was the case with Vegeta. That's not a rumor, there was an anniversary comic where Vegeta mocked the Toribot bot about it.

But no, using a character longer than you intended does not mean you hate them. If that's what you mean I can agree.

Well aside from Frost, but he was actually able to back up his attitude in that case.

Which is pretty rare for Vegeta when you think about it. Usually when he does something stupid out of ego, it massively backfires on him.

As for him acting the same around Goku... well if you were Vegeta, you'd get annoyed when someone like Goku gets ahead of you too.

That being said, I'm gonna say that Both Sides Have a Point. Vegeta is being played in a way that lets them keep him the same, or show he's different depending on the situation.

His older obsessed self comes out mostly in regards to Goku, who's face he's been trying to punching for so long that I can imagine why it's hard for him to not be pissed when Goku gets ahead of him again. Around other characters (like Cabba), that greater empathy that he's developed can come to the surface.

In fact, it's even lampshaded when Goku notices Vegeta encouraging Cabba and notes that Vegeta would never talk that way to him, with Piccolo basically saying Well yeah, because you're you.tongue

Well, Super has been much kinder to Vegeta than Z ever was. He's been used as the worf all of once, against Hit, and that was after he took down three opponents in a row. So yeah, far cry from Vegeta's days as the designated punching bag.

And even then, the manga threw in Worf Had the Flu (although I think that was less about helping Vegeta and more about trying to make some goddamn sense of Goku fighting Hit in base).

Although it raises a question of how much energy did Vegeta burn by just showing off Super Saiyan Blue, not even fighting with it. But eh.

Yea, Super is way kinder to Vegeta than Z, but then it helps he's more of an affirmative "good" guy.

Speaking of manga version of that fight, boy does manga Hit comes off as much more of an generic arrogant jerk compared to anime Hit who's a Consummate Professional who loosens in the course of battle. It also makes him throwing the fight with Monaka make less sense.

This sounds like something I'd say to close friends, not subjects and underlings.

EDIT: VIZ is doing the DBS manga now, somehow.

Some might not agree, but I find humour in the idea that a cute little dude like that not only has the power to destroy entire universes on nothing more than a whim, but talks in such a ridiculously casual manner.

But your mileage may vary on that one.

Yeah, it seems like the humor with Zen-O is that he's supposed to be this massively important person that everyone acts really formally around, but in person he's pretty casual and friendly, not like the dignified, lordly presence one would expect.

I can't imagine a guy with a cutesy voice talking like that.

Also, Vegeta fighting Frost didn't backfire because he didn't make the mistake he normally does: punching them in the face instead of giving them a chance to overwhelm him.

There's a difference between "casual talk" and "random swearing", but Mangastream doesn't actually know that. They do this in MHA, too. It's really annoying.

That expression is generally used casually, yo. He definitely ain't talking like a dignified leader, but with that boss power he really doesn't need to.

Friggin' isn't really a swear though.

[up][up]They'd justify that by saying that's a "literal versus loose" translation thing, but considering how often they make mistakes with actually important stuff and basic grammar, that just comes off as a copout to me.

I don't get why people insert swearing to make it seem 'casual'. Yes, I know people actually use swearwords in every day talk, but we don't curse on every other fucking sentence.

Yes, that was done deliberately.

Eh, some people do and for some characters I think it works well, but Mangastream doesn't take that into account. Precision F-Strike means nothing to them. And a lot of the time it just seems like they're making up their own swears to seem hardcore or something.
