At least that should work well in English.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!I... don't know how I feel about Masako Nozawa's Goku voice. One one hand, she's been doing the role so long that you can tell she could do it in her sleep and she completely nails everything about it, from the hick accent (I don't even speak Japanese and it's obvious), to the goofy moments having the perfect inflections, to the serious moments being genuinely powerful. Her Goku voice is basically perfect... for her.
I prefer Sean Schemmel's take on it even if he misses the hick part and his recent Kamehameha's and charges have gotten a little too gargle-y.
Masako X might be the most fitting English version and my personal favorite, even if it's by far the least polished.
So, for me, I like Masako X's first, Sean Schemmel's second, and Nozawa's third, even though, in terms of polish and objective quality, the order is the exact opposite.
Masako has the most 'cultured' voice for Goku owing to him not being able to completely hide his British accent when doing it, and that's funny considering his is the dumbest Goku out of them.
And I still shake my head every time I hear someone pronounce it Kameamea.
himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimariI mean, the fact that Toriyama would think of Nozawa's voice when writing for Goku in the manga means that, to an extent, her voice is the one that has most shaped Goku as a character. Goku's lines in the manga were written specifically with Nozawa in mind. Were written specifically with thought towards Nozawa's performance and the way she would deliver them.
That's a significant degree of influence.
I don't actually. Like. Listening to Nozawa's Goku. I mean no disrespect to her as an actor or person, but. It gets painful and screechy to me sometimes. Not my cup of tea.
But. Much as I detest the word. She's probably the "canon" Goku more than anyone else.
Her voice is fine, I can tolerate it.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Good! He should!
I think he does a good job counteracting the effect his British accent has by also adding a bit of a slur to Goku's voice. Like, it's not just that his Goku has difficulty saying hard words; he has difficulty pronouncing things too. Even when he's in his Fighting Brilliance mode, that slur is still there.

You're right, lisp might be a better word for it.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I'm pretty much meh on Japanese Goku's voice. It's how he sounds and that's all there is too it.
Nothing much more to say then that.
One Strip! One Strip!I wasn't too keen on Nozawa's Goku at first for much of the same reasons as everyone else, but listening to it long enough made me really appreciate how she makes Goku sound both innocent and like a real country bumpkin; and then her voice tumbles when he goes Super Saiyan Blue.
I do generally prefer Sean tho, its what I grew up with and he's only gotten better as Goku in recent years. Masako X is weird tho; I think he does a fine job as a parody voice, but his serious voice for Goku kinda falls flat for me.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Pretty sure that's what he might've been gone for, it makes sense given the name.
