Eh. It's no more ridiculous than Goten and Trunks surpassing Android 18 at the age of 7. At least Frieza had a remarkably powerful base to start from.

See, I'm willing to forgive the Krillin thing (him being too scared to fight) because up until that point, he'd never fought otherworldly opponents who were weaker than him.

Even after he got the Namek power-up he was still up against enemies who surpassed him in power. It's entirely likely that he was so used to being outmatched, that he never truly realized how strong he'd become. The fight against that one dude in the Budokai during the Buu series doesn't count because....well, he's a normal human, but when it comes to the aliens, demons, and Androids, he probably expects to be completely out of their league.

This was the first time he'd fought enemies who actually kinda mattered where he was the stronger one. Old anxieties kinda kept him from realizing it until he dodged out of pure reflex, and Roshi reminded him that by human Standards, he's a massive Bad Ass.

Plus the dude who murdered him was there, so it might have made it easy to forget. When Frieza is around, it's easy to feel weak.

I didn't have a problem with that because they were new characters and the idea of Super Saiyan training together equaling better gains was already established with Goku and Gohan during the Android Saga. Plus it was used as a counter example to Vegeta and Future Trunks' poorer training methods based on their personalities. Finally, Goten and Trunks obviously trained for years of their lives.

Freeza just shoots past Majin Buu and matches 2 Gods in 4 months because he was popular. It's GT Tier writing to me, along with the generally poor ideas used in that entire Resurrection of F film.

Really, if Frieza could get that strong to begin with, you'd think he'd have trained himself to prepare to deal with Majin Buu on the off chance he ever showed up again.

Who says it HAS to be 4 months, Freezy could easily have just said that because he overestimates his strength.

It could've taken much longer. The time span allows it.

Seems like all the Japanese DLC for Extreme Butoden is finally coming to the west:

New stuff will be included such as:

  • Training Mode
  • Extreme Survival Mode
  • Online Mode
  • A ton of new Z-Assists like SSJ4 Broly, Towa, Mira, Farmer Goku and Dancing Vegeta.

Gohan also trained for years of his early life. He was noteworthy for being exceptionally powerful. It was a major plot point that Gohan has this immense specialness and potential and ability.

Then Goten and Trunks come along, unlock Super Saiyan on a whim, and raise their powers so fast that Special Child Gohan is basically garbage next to them. If they kept rising like that, they'd be beating up Beerus by the time they're Gohan's age. They have no business being as powerful as they are, but they are that powerful because they need to catch up with the Power Creep.

Frieza, at least, has the excuse that he's a super special mutant who's never trained before. All of his power is raw. His potential is completely untapped. It's kind of bullshitty and exists solely to catch him up to the Power Creep, but it's not any different than Goten and Trunks's insane growth.

So we've come to a standstill. You have your reasons for accepting Freeza's boost, I have my reasons for calling it stupid. Nothing left to do except agree to disagree.

Eh, yes and no. I agree that it's bullshitty, I'm just pointing out that there's a precedent for bullshitty power gains meant to allow characters to make a ridiculous leap and become relevant. It's a tradition that goes back to...

Well, Frieza, actually. The earliest bullshit leap I can think of is Goku's final zenkai.

The Androids were likewise powered by bullshit.

That's why I said what I said. Barring most of GT, there are very few power-ups in Dragon Ball I'd call an Ass Pull. Every Android Dr. Gero made expect for Cell, Freeza's 4 month gain in Resurrection of F, and Vegeta's surpassing Goku in Battle of Gods and getting God Ki without the SSG ritual in Super are just about it for me.

I don't particularly have a problem with 4 month training either. I mean Goku drank some magic water that made him strong enough to eke out a victory against Piccolo.

Really, the next absurdity should be training in a black hole.

Train in infinity crusher?

Someone proposed Frieza training in a black hole - I've been informed that it was me but I honestly can't remember well enough to take credit for it - and it got passed around a lot to the point that it started being mistaken for canon. But I don't think that's actually what he did. I haven't seen ROF, but in the episodes of Super I've seen, we see Frieza sparring with Tagoma on some planet somewhere.

I might have been. I have a goldfish memory. It helps me be an Exposition Dragon because it means I don't get bored of explaining the same thing over and over because you accidentally selected, "Yes, I would like to hear that again."

Though it also sometimes causes me to look like I'm constantly harping on a thing because I forget that I've already explained it.

ROF skips the training altogether, so that don't help none.

<.< I think there was a period of about a month where I kept presenting the same speech full of my complaints with the Android arc, like, every day because someone would bring my position up and I would go into Exposition Mode to explain. Over and over.

I forget that I've already talked about a thing.

Dragon Ball is filled with bullshit and at times, inconsistent writing due to being a three decade old series. How about that?

Dragon Ball is filled with bullshit and at times, inconsistent writing due to being a three decade old series written by someone who made it all up as he went along and never planned ahead

Didn't so much fix that as add my own two cents. Otherwise your statement is accurate. Then again, even series that do plan things ahead often have massive plot holes, so Dragonball can't have that held over its head.

Dragon Ball Super Spoilers for Episodes 38-40.

http://www.kanzenshuu.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=30157&p=1070779#p1070779

38 - The martial arts tournament between Universe 6 and Universe 7 with Earth on the line. Vegeta's last opponent is Hit, the strongest man of Universe 6. Vegeta, watching Hit's eerily calm demeanor, is quite sure he's strong. Hit is an assassin proud to have the greatest skill of Universe 6.

39

Version 1:

"The counterattack of the developed "Tokitobashi" (Time Skipping?)!?

Will it appear!? Goku's new technique!"

Vegeta challenges Hit using Super Saiyajin Blue but Hit's technique, "Tokitobashi", deals a barrage of hits in his vital points and makes him faint. Son Goku is able to guess how Hit's "Tokitobashi" works and thus, while in Super Saiyajin Blue state, he also challenges Hit.

Version 2:

"The growing Hit, Goku at his peak" (Provisional)

Hit can skip time but only for 0.1 seconds. Estimating past those 0.1 seconds, Goku defeated the "Tokitobashi". But, Hit continues to grow (stronger?) while in battle. So, Goku breaks the seal of the Kaiouken and shoots a Kamehame Ha!

40 "Conclusion" (Provisional) - The martial arts tournament againts Universe 6 that wages on Earth has finally come to a close. In an outburst of anger, Champa wants to destroy his defeated contestants. Cabba and the others are frozen in fear. At that time, the one who appeared on the ring is...
