Would it be cool if Dimps made a console version of DBH with Burst Limit/Xenoverse graphics for the Nintendo NX?

Also, if they did, and they personally asked you to add a new character/transformation, who'd you add?

I feel like I'm the only person who didn't love Burst Limit, it comes up so much I feel like I missed something special about it. I mean, there were those actually requesting a Burst Limit 2 over another Tenkaichi.

I guess it didn't aggravate me as much as Infinite World, but I didn't play it that much either.

I just like BL's graphics, but the gameplay wasn't as good as previous games and the content was lacking.

[up][up] Why would that be surprising when they are too radically different games? It should be apparent that there would be people preferring one game type over another.

Burst Limit wasn't the best of Dimps' games, but it was the latest one they release so for anyone who preferred the Budokai-style of fighters, a Burst Limit sequel is what they had their hopes pinned on. As the first game on the PS360 consoles it was lacking in content (thanks to Shuiesha's incredibly unhealthy annual game demands they had at the time) but the gameplay was solid and it made a good foundation for future installments. Because with Shuiesha's demands the developers' only real option was to lay a foundation that would be built upon through sequels. Which is why a sequel is wanted so much, to deliver on its potential.

Thankfully, Shuiesha are no longer pushing the "make a new game every year" and seem to have loosened up some of their other demands so developers have more time to create games that have more content from the start. Which is really good, because once they stopped developing for the PS2 generation both Dimps and Spike found one year wasn't enough time to make games that stood on their own and if Shuiesha didn't let up they would have ended up killing the video game franchise.

Personally, while Burst Limit did have solid gameplay, I feel it took a step back in regards to the ki system and transformations. My ideal game would instead be a mix of Infinite World and Shin Budokai's mechanics,

I am more of a fan of Dragon Ball simulators than of Dragon Ball fighting games. Gimme more Tenkaichi stuff.

Hell, gimme a less grindy and damage sponge based Xenoverse.

Spike's new One Piece game looks pretty awesome, why couldn't Tenkaichi be that flashy?

Also, when Dimps makes Xenoverse 2, they have to use story elements from DBO and recent DBH missions such as:

  • The reign of Narak and his evil Namekian army
  • The Time Breakers recruiting the newly formed Red Pants Army
  • Mira's shape-shifting sister, Churai
  • The whole Time Breaker Bardock storyline, leading up to Time Patrol Bardock
  • Cell-X and the Cell-X Jr.'s
  • Mira attaining his version of Super Saiyan, Super Mira
  • Dabura being resurrected and joining the Time Breakers
  • Towa attaining her Darkness form and messing with the GT timeline
  • GT Goten joining the Time Patrol to defeat Baby Trunks
  • The Time Patrollers going back in time to when Skot was Chronoa and Demigra was a wizard

[up](3)Its surprising because that means it was better than I gave it credit for. Nobody asks for a sequel to Ultimate Tenkaichi, Super Dragonball Z, or Sagas.

I asked for Ultimate Tenkaichi 2

Also Super Dragon Ball Z does get a lot of praise with fans of Street Fighter like games. For me it goes too far into the "fighting game" direction and just feels like a DBZ skin of a different game. I think the Budokai games do a great job of feeling like Dragon Ball while still having solid gameplay.

I want a sequel to Super DBZ, that game was mighty legit!

I still want Xenoverse 2 as well.

A fighting DBZ game and a simulation DBZ game, both, super good.

I want a Tenkaichi 4.

There were the Raging Blast games but those felt like a step backwards to me. Xenoverse has a similar style but feels like many steps backwards.

Okay, so Super DBZ and UT wasn't universally disliked. I confess some Opinion Myopia. :p

I mean, look at it. It's practically a love letter to Street Fighter fans. Some of the stage designs were neat. But I prefer the style Dimps and Spike created. Being able to fly through the air and launch devastating attacks was always more fun for me. If I want to play Street Fighter, I will go and play Street Fighter.

The step backwards in Raging Blast are due to the generation shift. They can't make Tenkaichi 4. With more development time, Spike could make a new game that is a step forward from either series, but it'd still be something new.

Xenoverse's step backwards were running the hell away from Spike's mess.

At least you could say Xenoverse had more characters than Budokai.

It still sure as hell can't beat Dragon Ball Heroes' roster, but it can try on the next game. (or more realistically, Xenoverse 3)

Don't they have to make a Xenoverse 2 first, or am I missing the joke here?

That's fair, but still sad. For me, Tenkaichi 2 is where the series peaked in terms of storytelling while Tenkaichi 3 had the best character roster and gameplay. I miss unlikely inclusions like Yajirobe, Kame-sennin, and Chi-Chi.

I'm willing to accept that Xenoverse sequels might become something to rival them. The first Tenkaichi was utter shit. I don't expect it, though; their focus on having multiple characters on the field simultaneously and their love of RNG padding are huge negatives in my book.

[up][up] That's what I meant by "next game" and then I said it'd be more realistically DBH's roster size by Xenoverse 3.

[up] I'm sure the RNG thing will be fixed in Xenoverse 2, considering a ton of people have complained about it, I'm sure the people at Dimps have heard something by now.

Roster size is not the be-all, end-all and I would go as far as to say it's not even one of the biggest features to focus on. Way overblown by the fanbase.

[up] That is extremely far off realistic.

I know that for sure, I want a game that's balanced and fun, a big roster is just icing on the cake.

That's why I also want Super DBZ 2 or a new console Butoden game, a true fighting game with a select amount of characters.

Roster size means a lot to me. It's a bit silly, but I love using the fighting games to do re-enactments. Not just of the series but of other things too, like I'll do "Fullmetal Alchemist as Dragon Ball" using Gohan and Trunks as the Elric Brothers.

It's a personal thing but it's a lot of fun and gives the game tons of replayability for me. Having a larger roster gives me more flexibility both when "casting" characters and when "playing" Dragon Ball itself; Tenkaichi 3 is the only Dragon Ball game I've played where it's actually reasonably viable to re-enact much more of the pre-Raditz content than just Goku's fight with Piccolo at the end of the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai.

Xenoverse, on the other hand, had no replayability for me because I couldn't even finish the first play. I got bored of all the XP grindingWatch out!  and the underwhelming, downplayed attacks before finishing the Cell arc.

I do the exact same thing and yet if the combat is bad, that hurts it even more since that's the entire gameplay. I recently re-bought Tenkaichi 3 for the purpose of doing my own stories and gave up on it because the combat mechanics have not aged well at all and every match felt like a chore.

I'd already thought up the story in my head. The game doesn't do much more than let me see a representation of it, and it's got to be able to hold up with its own gameplay to do so.

I kind of have to side with roster size too.

Only having Frieza's first and final form kind of sucked.

Frankly I'd scrap the first form if going with something that isn't as focused on retelling the original story. The final form is the only one that did any meaningful fighting or showed a variety of techniques.

A lot of roster slots are used on characters that only exist for the minimal role they offer to the story.
