That's not really fair, because Vegeta got directly involved in Gohan and Cell's fight by attacking the latter. What happened to him and Gohan was his own fault. Krillin never butts into fights he knows he can't win and mostly just acts as support when shit hits the ceiling. There's absolutely no reason why he can't tagalong because even being in a supporting role and giving the characters a Senzu is still contributing something.
There's no reason why any of the supporting characters can't at least watch the fighting, and they'd only be a liability if the villains started attacking them or if the environment was unsafe.

A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.I don't think Hit has reality-warping powers like most people say, but I do think I have an idea about his abilities.
Adding onto the speed he showcases in the opening, I think he has the ability to harm without damage. I'm guessing the "broken reality" is some sort of attack that, if anyone is caught standing on it, is imploded on the inside without cause to much bodily damage.
Essentially, Hit is the Flash + Shikamaru.
That's an interesting theory. It might explain why he's such a dangerous and well known hit-man as well.
One Strip! One Strip!Yes. The villains attacking the weaker fighters is exactly the way in which they are a liability. Which has happened.
- Piccolo Daimao used Tien as a hostage to force Goku to stand still and let him break his limbs.
- Piccolo Jr. blew up the stadium at the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai.
- Frieza killed Krillin immediately after surviving Goku's Genki-Dama.
- Dr. Gero created a distraction to cover his escape by attacking Bulma.
- Perfect Cell tried to force a transformation out of Gohan by having his Cell Jrs. assault the entire peanut gallery.
- Super Perfect Cell introduced himself by killing Trunks out of f*cking nowhere.
- Dabura petrified Krillin and Piccolo right off the bat.
- Majin Vegeta blew up a chunk of the stadium at the 25th Tenkaichi Budokai to convince Goku to fight him.
- Pure Buu trying to attack Mr. Satan is specifically what caused Mr. Buu to break free and become his own entity.
Some of these people contributed positively, others were just hapless victims, but the point is that there is no reason to assume a god-killing abomination or a galactic tyrant won't murder you with a half-gesture just because you're too weak to pose a threat to it.
If you're going to be present at one of these battles and you're not capable of fighting on their level, you have a good chance of getting shot at. It might be a desperation move when the villain's back is against a wall, it might be the villain's way of saying hi, it might just be because the hero's currently incapacitated and the villain's an asshole who feels like killing something. One way or another, if you're there, killing you is fair game.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Hit is my favorite u6 guy so far, dude exude Bad Ass.
Nautolan picture belongs to Bonesmarinated on twitterThe hell is that guy? He kinda looks like an evil Kaioshin.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I'm fine with where 18 was at the end of the manga. For a female character on the border between secondary and tertiary in a shonen, getting to be the protagonist of her own mini-arc is actually pretty impressive, especially since it's after she'd already been long outclassed against the "real" threats.
There's a perfectly good reason for Krillin to be there:
To remind Goku and Vegeta to focus on straight up winning the fight instead of trying to drag it out to get a good battle.
Sure, there are others there who can do the same but that doesn't mean he shouldn't either.
Truthfully, this wouldn't be a problem if Toriyama didn't insist on making the villains so powerful that only Goku and Vegeta can fight them, while still wanting everyone else to be present at said fight.
It always comes down to the fact that the power levels never should have escalated as far as they did. I mean, I think we've discussed that it happened as a way to write the other characters out, but then he kept having a lot of them show up anyway, which buggers that pretty badly.
Simply put however, Krillin was there because Toriyama wanted him there. How powerful he is is irrelevant. If Toriyama wants a character to be part of the plot, then they are even if there are others who'd be a better choice. If he doesn't, then you are essentially like Gohan, Buu, or Android 18.
You should be there, but you're either given an excuse, written out, or a housewife.
One Strip! One Strip! To remind Goku and Vegeta to focus on straight up winning the fight instead of trying to drag it out to get a good battle.
When has Krillin ever done this? The closest he's ever been is when he wanted to kill Vegeta, and Goku convinced him to let Vegeta go so that Goku could have a thrilling rematch with him in the future.
His death motivated Goku to become a Super Saiyan on Namek, but even then, Goku faffed about and actually tried to quit when it got boring.
Even at Babidi's Spaceship, Krillin and Piccolo were petrified to set up the stakes of the conflict, and Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan played jenken to decide turn order for beating up Babidi's men.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.One last thing on Superman and Death Battles. I think the real tragedy of the whole thing is how it continues the myth of Superman being a boring Mary Sue, which is why I didn't like Superman growing up. Stuff like Justice League did wonders to show the more flawed side to Superman and made people like me explore his character. Learning Superman's limits, both physically and emotionally, really gave me new insight into him.
Now, Death Battle went and reduced him once again to invincible Mary Sue, where they are people in DC canoningly stronger and equal to him. It was such a cheap and stupid cop out, all so they didn't have to make anymore Goku vs. Superman videos.

Actually, hilariously enough, Death Battle have freely admitted that they have a bias FOR Dragon Ball. Ironically, liking Goku more than Superman is what led to the misinterpretation that Superman is supposed to be a Boring Invincible Hero causing him to inevitably win.
Never said he did a good job now did I?

One Strip! One Strip!

To be fair, Kaioushin said he might need all of their help. Krillin came along because he thought he could be useful. It was only when they got there and found out Babidi had Dabura as his bitch that he realized he was out of his depth.
In fact, just before Dabura stoned him, I think he was even planning to leave since he realized he couldn't help.
