I think this episode broke Gohan.
He really chews himself out for not training. And I'm like...is that on purpose? Is he actually going to change because of this? Or is it some stupid plot thread that won't go anywhere?
Like, I don't care if he trains or not. On the one hand, having him be relevant would be cool. But on the other hand, 'generic badass' Gohan is such a boring character.

The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby!
I'm pretty sure he did make the decision himself.
Still he might have back-pedalled a bit too hard.
Don't forget. If Gohan's theoretical maximum from the Mystic power up is more powerful than Super Saiyan 3, then he'd still have been outmatched by Frieza. How necessary was it to nerf him to this extent. He was already surpassed to an incredible degree, so he'd be in a poor situation even if he was still as strong as he was at the end of the series, so there was no reason to put him down this much.
Not that it matters anyway.
Ah well, next episode.
One Strip! One Strip!Gohan will approach Vados for training to make up for slacking off and will become exponentially more powerful and Broly levels of buff (in his first re-appearance, the camera will only show his back and the other character's reactions, faking out him being Broly). He will be an 11th-Hour Superpower in the final battle against Vados herself.
Probably since the Buu arc. He realized that Gohan was unfit to be the main character.
Hell, in the manga Gohan gets to kick Buu's ass for two chapter before he starts getting ripped into pieces by him.
And the anime certainly made it worse by making it last longer and throwing in Buu burning Gohan every episode the fight lasted.
I'm actually happy for Gohan, I must say. He got his dream job, his dream girl, and managed the nigh-insurmountable feat of becoming a normal person in the DB-verse, a task if anything more onerous than slaying sociopathic grasshopper-men and genocidal wads of bubble gum.

Gohan is just the embodiment of Growing Up Sucks at this point; he got older and became a family man but then goes on to pretty much become pathetic as a fighter and defending said family. Its a good thing his Dad is around otherwise he'd be fucked.
ahh well, se la vie. Perhaps I should make Beerus my new favorite character.

A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Gohan is sort of like the Kamille of DBZ. On the one hand, it's total bullshit that Toriyama screwed him over so hard and utterly ruined the pacing of the Buu Arc. On the other hand, he deservest o live a simple, happy life. While I would love to see Kamille kick ass again, it's probably better for him he's off being a doctor after all he's have to endure. Same for Gohan. It be great if he was the badass hero but after all the torture he's endured, he deserves a nice, quiet life.

I'll never forgive Future Trunks for standing by as Perfect Cell lolstomped Vegeta. And it was all a complete waste.

It makes sense. These animators have been working on One Piece for the past 16 years. It's only natural their work on that is going to seep into Super.
I have a problem. I'm replaying Dragon Ball Z: Buu's Fury and I'm at the Mystic Gohan part. I've decided to use the 'Gokuu' Hat for all the characters exactly once to balance out their stats and make the total divisible by three. Gohan starts the game with 20 STR, 29 POW, and 16 END, which all adds up to a number not divisible by 3, which is normal. My current Gohan's stats are 61 STR, 73 POW, and 61 END, which are divisible by 3 and I never used the 'Gokuu' Hat. Level-ups only give 3 points each time. I wasn't really keeping track but shouldn't this be mathematically impossible?!
EDIT: Nevermind. I went back a save and apparently when the game levels Gohan up to 115 to represent Mystic, it not only gives you 75 points to add to your character's stats, but it also boosts Gohan's stats themselves in secret and unevenly.

It's not like he has that peaceful life, because every time a fight breaks out he's dragged into it. If he's not meant to be a fighter they really need to stop putting him in every fight and find something else to do with his character.
That's kind of a bad analogy. If you're playing a game with permanent Game Over then you rely on what will keep you alive.
There's no such thing as "fully realized Namekian". They don't have any sort of development stages in terms of power. Furthermore, Piccolo is shown being able to get stronger after fusing with God, so obviously he's not completely out of potential yet.
Goten and Trunks are 7 and 8 years old. Gohan was 9 when he defeated Cell. If they're supposed to be similarly talented then they should be closing in on that kind of level.
The whole point of the Resurrection F movie/arc is to rehash the old and popular concepts. Tossing out the new character Tagoma to bring back old favourite Ginyu was just the obvious move to continue this trend.
They were kind of a mixed bag, half of them were used well and half were kind of just there to check boxes in the side character opponent category. Mostly they just served as a roadbump to slow the plot down on the way to Shishio.
The moral of Dragon Ball is Being a Family Man is for the weak.
Hey, it works for Goku & Vegeta and they got Protagonist-Centered Morality on their side, so they can fuck off for god knows how long and still be welcomed back with open-arms.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Goten and Trunks had nowhere near the rigorous training Gohan had. Piccolo was almost certainly referring to their future potential (from taking a full, two-year turn in the HTC) when he said that they were the last hope. Goku immediately choosing Piccolo over them for the tournament and Vegeta not even mentioning them as an alternative pretty much cements Piccolo as superior.
Neither side of the argument can prove their point 100%, but the 'Piccolo > boys' side has MUCH more evidence than the other side.
