We don't know if they're a bunch of trolls trying to purify our wiki(not caring about the goal of our site) or if it's people who's concerned about their children(despite the fact that our goal is to not appeal to the children anyway).

As for this topic itself...

Trolling, yeah, sorry, you should be punished for it. The purpose of trolling is to annoy people, basically harming them. Its intent is malicious. So I don't feel sorry for them. This isn't the same as jokingly jabbing at people. That's in good fun. Those are two different concepts entirely.

There should be a law against people like the Westboro people who's job is to annoy people at gay funerals and call their lawyers as soon as one of the funeral goers throws a punch. They're baiting people (I use 'baiting' for lack of better word) and it's about time governments see to that. It's like they're trying to pull a profit from trolling.

Interestingly, PAX East has a panel tomorrow about trolling and other bastardy behavior in online games.

If I were there, I'd say I'm looking forward to seeing people trying to troll that.

@ Irene: Well, they aren't really trolls if they point out a breach of conduct on the part off the site.

Adserver has rules, and the rules were broken. Since when is following the rules trolling?

We were following them because the site is allowed to have NSFW content. Google links to NSFW stuff all the time, but is affected by Adserver.

We're not allowed to put the ads on a NSFW page, however.

Something people seemed to not understand.

So no, we weren't breaking any rules. That's why we're figuring out what's going on as is. And I was only answering the earlier question presented on the last page.

There have been false allegations of "inappropriate behaviour with a pupil"

Dude, my calc teacher so SUCKED MY DICK!!!11!11! ;D

attacks on teachers' professional ability

ZOMG, like my calc teacher SUX BALLS!!!111!

16% of teachers had faced online insults from parents.

My son's calc teacher is horrible!!!!!

Truly threats and allegations to be taken with the utmost seriousness.

But a Facebook spokesman said: "When conversation crosses a line and turns into harassment, teachers have access to reporting tools on almost every page of the site, unlike much of the wider web."

What he said.

"It is clear that some employers are seriously failing in their duty of care by neither having appropriate policies in place nor taking incidents seriously when reported."

So schools should punish students for what they do outside of school?

[up]Harassment transcends school barriers, but it should be punished with out-of-school means (the Law) rather than in-school ones (detention/expelling).

I can roll with that.

Though the article is awful vague on what the "Harassment" was.

Well, repeating calling a teacher you hate "a paedo" for one or at least thats what we did when I was at school.

If I may ask, why is your grammar worse in OTC than it is in Yack Fest?

I don't know, its something that I haven't noticed before.

In this day and age

Calling a teacher a paedophile is going to end their career and make their life a nightmare even if those allegations are false.

Edit: The right of free speech imo doesn't give you the right to destroy a life.

Which is why there are laws against libel, slander, and harassment. It bugs me when people think that free speech literally means there can be no consequences to saying anything at all.

I know of a teacher in my old high school who everyone calls a pedophile, and quite frankly it's so entrenched in the collective memory of the school that it's impossible to know what's true and what isn't. All I know is that girls visibly shrink back when he tries to talk to them in the hallway.

Relevant article by Neil Gaiman.

Interesting bit: the European Court of Human Rights has ruled that interference with free speech was "necessary in a democratic society" in order to guarantee the rights of others "to protection from gratuitous insults to their religious feelings."
