Ok, I think this is in the right area. This one is really bugging me, I looked through the entire list of Young Adult Literature but couldn't find it.

The books were basically "paranormal fantasy" and I believe were about a group of teens who get trained by some kind of lizard/reptile thing in order to fight a guy I thought was called "The Collector". I think the group of teens is capable of shapeshifting into animals but I'm not sure... but they definitely have some kind of powers given to them by their reptilian coach/trainer creature.

What I also remember is that they get transported to some other kind of swampy, jungle land to fight the poacher/collector bad guy or something, and have to go through a temple with challenges.

Really would love it if something knew what these books were.

-Edit: Arigatou, yuanchosan . I posted it there and elaborated on some extra details I remembered.

Yeah its not animorphs, theres no real sci-fi, maybe just some present-day (90s) human technology the kids/villain might have. I remmeber it was paranormal/possibly multi-dimensional type stuff. But yeah there's a few more details there now, thanks for your guys' help so far -

Sounds like "Animorphs".

Here are some possible useful links:

Nah, it doesn't sound like Animorphs. Except for the "shapeshifting into animals"-bit, it doesn't match at all.
