Inspired by this thread
, I've noticed that this wiki doesn't have a dedicated cleanup thread for negativity.
As we all know, Complaining About Shows You Don't Like, Creator Bashing and other negativity isn't desired on the wiki, except in a few selected areas like reviews and several Darth Wiki pages (and even then, with limitations). And yet, it's one of the most common sins wiki contributors can make.
So, if you find a page, TLP or discussion whose content seems like a straight-up insult or any other bitching - including complainy soapboxing -, you might ask here for help with removing said content.
The sandbox for this project is located at Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining.

Bringing this up from Fake American. While it's not as bad as other examples I've found, there's still a large amount of Television Without Pity-level snark that deserves to go.
- Farscape was filmed in Australia, so naturally there were quite a few:
- Claudia Black has a pretty feeble accent when she plays Crichton inhabiting Aeryn's body. Her body language, though? Pure Ben Browder.
- In an episode where John and Chiana are trapped inside a video game, Claudia Black plays a princess and affects a ridiculous Southern accent (with a lisp for some reason). Since it's a fairly silly episode anyway, it's a bit more forgivable.
- Gigi Edgley (who plays Chiana) drifts between an American accent and her native Australian accent, depending on the episode. Anthony Simcoe (who plays D'Argo) does a better job.
- During the 20-second Farscape parody scene in the 200th episode of Stargate SG-1, Canadian Michael Shanks is similarly feeble at Crichton's distinctly Southern accent. He says seven words, which is more than enough. This may have been intentional, given the over-the-top nature of the numerous other parodies in the episode (of course, Shanks' regular character in the show is also American, but he still sounds Canadian).
Did that editor get a dollar every time they used "feeble" or something?
As far as I know, Fake American is just supposed to be trivia, right? Can definitely cut the snark.
Also, D'Argo and Chiana wouldn't count because they're not American.
This was added to RWBY.Tropes U To Z. Aura is the show's spiritual power (it's Ki Manipulation, the Soul Power link is a sinkhole), but this entry just seems like it's complaining.
- A Wizard Did It: The creators use Aura as an excuse for absolutely everything that doesn't make sense. How do the characters even manage to lift their weapons? Aura. Why don't the characters get cold when wearing fairly revealing clothing in Solitas? Aura. How do Blake and Qrow project energy waves from sword slashes when that's not their Semblance? Aura. You get the idea.
Affirmative-Action Legacy has this:
- The Disney Star Wars Sequel trilogy suffered backlash for hinting that Finn, a black Stormtrooper, would be the main lead in place of Luke Skywalker and Anakin Skywalker of the Original Trilogy and Prequel Trilogy respectively, before revealing the true main character would be Rey, a white woman. The backlash also revolved around the impression that the heroes of the previous trilogies (Luke, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Anakin, etc) were demeaned in order to play up the new heroes (e.g. Han Solo revealed to have gone back to becoming a smuggler again before dying, Luke becoming a reclusive hermit before dying, Leia becoming a failed military leader before dying), while Rey was portrayed as being vastly more skilled and powerful.
- Finn meanwhile became less relevant as the trilogy advanced, even becoming Plucky Comic Relief in the second film of the Sequel trilogy. His actor John Boyega became increasingly vocal about his dissatisfaction with what was done with the character.
I think this post is bashy since it is the only example on the page that mentions a backlash to the character, rather than simply saying, ie "This character's daughter took the role." The statuses of the original heroes nor the comment about Finn also have nothing to do with this trope either and feel more like complaining about the movies.
Agreed, plus I'm not sure 'new main character' is enough to qualify as a 'legacy' in the first place. Rey didn't literally take on the identity of "Luke Skywalker" like, say, Monica Rambeau or Carol Danvers becoming the new Captain Marvel. I'd cut it entirely.
Edit: Actually, does anyone else think the description of Affirmative-Action Legacy itself is too negative? It's almost entirely focused on problems with the trope in execution with just a token "but some of these characters have been successful" bit at the very end. (Kind of reminds me of some of our bad Broken Base examples, TBH).

this is on Teen Drama in its second paragraph:
"The kind of show where everyone looks too old and too short to be teenagers, they have to bring new people in, the men keep taking their shirts off, there are no more than two non-white main characters, the teens talk much more like adults than teenagers, and anyone over a specific age is bad news."
even if you dislike teen dramas and these are valid criticisms of the genre as a whole, i feel like this is way overboard and generalises them too much. permission to cut/edit, if this needs to be changed at all?
- Karma Houdini: The True Final Boss, who, while defeated and rendered docile in the end, still destroyed Station Square and by rights should have killed thousands of people. He gets an utterly unironic Happy Ending.
I love how this example doesn't even name the antagonist. This example doesn't consider the context on why Chaos went berserk in the first place. It was the echidna tribe attacking the emerald shrine and Tikal sealing Chaos in the Master Emerald for thousands of years that caused him to make a mess of Station Square.

Thomas fans needed! Come join me in the the show's cleanup thread!Okay, I found this in VG section on Fandom Rivalry. I would've edited it immediately, but seeing that this is a reason why I got suspended, I ought to bring it to this first.
- Speaking of Konami, unsurprisingly, this also goes with fans of Kojima Productions given the absolutely toxic relationship between Konami and Hideo Kojima following the lead up to the release of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and the subsequent cancellation of Silent Hills as well as Kojima's own departure from Konami. The rivalry between the two video game companies is one-sided as even fans of Konami sided with Kojima due to how abusive Konami was in their treatment of their staff and Kojima. Meanwhile, fans of Kojima Productions loathe Konami to the core due to the latter's past actions which were inexcusable. Likewise, Kojima himself was known to partake in some indirect mockery over his former parent company, whilst Konami infamously wiped out all mentions of Kojima from MGS:V and blocked him for the 2015 video game awards. This feud highlighted the sheer bitterness between Kojima and Konami. We may not know what exactly happened behind the scenes due to NDAs, but it sure was ugly.
First off, let me say that they probably should have removed the 'Speaking of Konami', and just go straight to 'Konami vs Kojipro' (yeah, I'm shortening it to that because it's more convenient). Next, let's go to the main issues:
- This is really really stoking the old flames of hatred. Sure, Konami did bad before, but isn't it time we move on from that? Are we gonna keep pretending bad bad Konami in the face of those new Silent Hill games and Metal Gear Solid Delta? They look like they'll spin and frame any news to support the narrative of 'EEEVVVIIILLL KONAMI'. Should we still abide to that?
- If it's one-sided, can we even call it Fandom Rivalry? Feels more like 'Two fandoms united as one'. Plus, there's a similar case of both Dota 2 and League of Legends fandom united in condemning the dick move of Pendragon to promote LOL at the expense of Dota Allstars forums... we don't even put that in for the entry between Dota and LOL. So I believe that most Konami fans THESE DAYS (not the past, in the past, it really happened as is) would prefer to just leave Kojipro alone, only diehard Kojima worshippers seems to insist on keeping this... 7-9 years grudge, and not being open to recent development.
- Plus, last I heard, Kojima and Konami were on okay terms. It looks like what they truly needed are different rooftops to stay with so they just don't really bicker with each other anymore. And yeah, Kojima actually thanked Konami for shaping him to the way he is right now, and Konami never bothered to sabotage him further beyond the MGS debacle. This looks like just clutching to the old gospel of hatred...
So yeah, I'm sorry if this is sounding like I'm Righting The Great Wrongs (because that was an accusation of why I got myself suspended. So I'm sorry.), but any way we can improve this to make sure it doesn't sound too bash-y without trying to frame Konami as the super evil company (but don't shy on mentioning this black mark either!)? Or do we nuke this one?
Thank you.

No, I agree. At the very least, the Evil Is Petty pothole needs to go as that trope's NRLEP note , but the points you raised are correct.
Uhm. I'm gonna guess that you agree with the guessing that it needs fixing, rather than 'nuke it'.
But does it count as an example (Bullet point #2)? If a Fandom Rivalry needs to have both sides initiate the rivalry defending their sides, then for it to count, I'm gonna need examples of how a camp defend Konami from Kojima Productions' attack and mention it in the fixing. And so far, I think I've found little proofs: Either the Konami fans go join the Kojima Production fandom, or they just don't bother themselves with any form of aggression. Unless I got it wrong about Fandom Rivalry.
Just to be sure, I think I'll ask this question in Is This An Example thread first... (Edit: Answer seems to gravitate to 'this is unnecessary drama', so it seems like they do think it should be nuked...)
Edited by ChrisX on Jun 9th 2023 at 9:11:46 PM
That I agree. The question is that, if one side has no defender, does it count as the trope Fandom Rivalry? Cuz if it doesn't fit the trope, it's gotta go, not fixed.
Edited by ChrisX on Jun 9th 2023 at 11:27:12 PM
The other thread also agrees with us that if it is one sided, it's not Fandom Rivalry. So yeah, that's gotta go. Thank you all.
EDIT: I have to delete the other bullet point above that because it also carries the 'one-sided' element (anything against Konami will be one-sided, I acknowledge that). And the example on Bemani sounds more like it's taken care of with the 'inter-company rivalry' examples (which also included Capcom, Sega and Nintendo). If anyone feels like it has merits to stand on its own, let me know.

Any thoughts on the A Wizard Did It entry above
?
From the Audience-Alienating Ending film folder:
Man of Steel is a rare example of the ending of a first film overshadowing the rest of its franchise. The climax of Man of Steel has Superman and Zod square off in Metropolis, causing billions of dollars of property damage and likely countless deaths, note with Superman not attempting to mitigate the damages or take the fight elsewhere. The final nail in the coffin for many came with the end of the battle where Superman is forced to either kill Zod or let the villain kill a family of humans causing Superman to pick the former. This proved to be controversial for many fans (and even some comic writers) as Superman is the poster boy for The Cape and one of the shining pillars of Thou Shalt Not Kill in comics along with the belief that Superman is too strong and versatile to be placed in such a scenario, with fans noting dozens of ways it could’ve played out without killing Zod. The fact Superman moves on from Zod's death after a single scene and is never shown mourning the civilian deaths he and Zod indirectly caused adds more fuel to the fire. While later installments try to address this issue (most notably Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, where the destruction is openly called out, Superman actively tries to have battles in abandoned environments, and Batman becomes motivated to kill him to prevent further destruction and death), and even Henry Cavill confirmed that this incident is what inspired Superman's refusal to kill in this universe, the reception of the final battle in Man of Steel was enough to tarnish the image of this incarnation of Superman for many, with some critics going as far to say Superman killing Zod destroyed any hope or further interest they had in the DC Extended Universe as a whole.
Oh man, where to even begin with the amount of misuse in this example? Well for starters YMMV tropes cannot be played with. They need to be ether straight examples or not exist at all. Second it is way too wordy, going on for a whole paragraph complaining how the DCEU's Superman is #notmysuperman. Third it more or less blames Man of Steel entirely for the DCEU's fallings despite the fact that Man of Steel was a box office hit and the DCEU's failure is a result of DC Studios and Warner Bros. rushed attempts at creating their own cinematic universe to compete with the MCU not catching on with critics and movie goers. I could go on but I do not want to so permission to delete the example please.

Beware, I live! This feels like a knee-jerk response despite it having been added just a few months ago. The only DCEU film that flopped prior to COVID hitting was Justice League (2017), and even that was followed by Aquaman (2018), the highest-grossing film in the franchise. It was really the knee-jerk Executive Meddling of Justice League in response to to the reception of Batman V Superman that had a bigger impact on the franchise, with several films being thrown into Development Hell.
To say the ending of Man of Steel did the franchise in is a bit of a stretch. Cut.
Miraculous Ladybug S05E24 "Representation": At time of posting, there's an "Ass Pull" entry that seems kind of like Complaining About Plot Twists You Don't Like. I get that it's YMMV, but I'm not convinced it's in good faith (especially since, as I see it, this plot twist was foreshadowed in the show's second season at latest, but the "Ass Pull" writer thinks it wasn't until the fourth.) Thing is, even if I had admin privileges, I'd still be split on this one, sooo... thoughts?
Cut the Ass Pull entry. It's just the writer who added it complaining.
- Misaimed Fandom:
- There has been a subset of fans that wonder if players really got the message or just emphasized the dark theme so much that they vehemently hate any manner of Plotline Death being averted/subverted. The other message being "live life to the fullest" is commonly lost on the fandom, and is usually brought up by Portable (or rather, just the female route) defenders, which do not help any matters, especially with it being more subtle.
- The female main character's cult-like online popularity makes the fandom wonder if her fans genuinely like Persona 3 for what it is or just her. The fact that reception of her in Japan is more lukewarm and the male main character is more well-received even there makes this obsession even more bizarre. Not helped even further by the (leaked) reveal of Reload bringing these worried fans out of woodwork in a way that has not been seen since Persona 3: Dancing in Moonlight, clogging up threads with their concerns of her not making the cut (including boycotts to not buy if that is the case) and thus insensitively bothering other fans along the way.

Was that the same person who added this edit
calling the sentimonster reveal an Ass Pull on the main trivia page and is trying very hard to claim the fandom is Right for the Wrong Reasons about it?

Suddenly I'm... still rotating Fallen London in my mind even though I've stopped actively playing it.![]()

And as for these, they seem to amount to "FeMC fans are so loud and obnoxious" and don't explain what part of the story they're supposedly missing, so yeah remove.

Yup.
At present, the "Ass Pull" entry was changed to "Throw It In" with almost the same content. Will check who was responsible for the change. EDIT: Same person, apparently because the page was deleted.

I agree with cutting it for being complaining.
