Two german comedians basically call out both the right-scum and the people who just repeat the polemik in an awesome “The Reason You Suck” Speech.

I am not a fan of those two (I personally find them unfunny and worse) but, still, thumps up.

Thought about this for a spell.

For now, I think Germany should host the immigrants who want to be in Germany, instead of redistributing to other nations. If they wanna deport them, the same rule.

As much as I admire the apparently "generous" benefits they give to refugees, the Germans should also realize it's not fair to let poorer nations take care of the refugees who went all that way to Germany specifically.

Also pretty questionable (if) Germany, Austria, Sweden, etc. has been pressuring Hungary and others to block refugees. It's like how Britain is yelling at France for not securing Calais more.

The problem is that Germany is currently taking in a number of refugees which is vastly dispropiate to her share of population and territorial size compared to other EU countries. The main problem is not really the money, since hosting immigrants is really not that expensive compared to other expenditures, but how to properly process their applications and find suitable shelter. This refugee problem is a genuine European challenge and should be solved as one, there is no reason why e.g. Eastern European countries sould not take in more refugees, even if they should need financial support.

Btw it is true that countries like Italy and Greece are burdened with the Dublin agreement, but they also receive financial support from EU for precisely this reason. There is currently an investigation by the EU regarding Italy, because there is substantial evidence that they mostly sent refugees north without registering them like they are supposed to.

How proportional is the refuge spread to the economic size of countries?

srsly though does this "dual education" thing work or no, tho? I ask cuz the syndicates are crying foul over it and throwing a tantrum and speaking about taking to the streets and everything already. Granted, they cry about everything (even raises they are given. They always say it is not enough) but still useful to have data to know otherwise.

The German dual-system is often praised as one core reason for her economic success and while I don't want to exaggerate here, I think it does work quite well.

I think Sweden accepts more refugees per capita but it is obvious that there is big disparity regarding this in Europe.

Franky what most annoys me is the reluctance of countries like France and the UK, who helped destabilizing the ME with their wars against Libya, and before that Iraq (France participated only in the former, but was among those who pushed the hardest for military action) while Germany stayed out of it and it least regarding Libya, actually warned that this could happen.

I'm ashamed that Finland is accepting so few refugees. One of the most powerful parties in the current government coalition is a populist party that rides a huge wave of anti-immigrant sentiment as one of its two main sources of popularity. (The other is opposition to the EU and the Euro.)

I remember from history class how German companies used to protest policies which later lead to the German economy becoming so strong to begin with. While that might not be the same reforms we speak about here, it isn't really a surprise the group in a different country reacts like that.

It is not groups. It is a mobster group called "Syndicates", which have vouched for regulations that have bloated their bellies and drained the state's coffers for their own benefits.

They have done the same since forever. Look at for example what syndicates have done to education in Mexico and you will see how badly they can fuck shit up.

How long ago was that in Germany? When were those sort or criticisms to the measures?

Ratio of refugees should I think be based on GDP per capita, basically the richer nations should take in more refugees. They can better afford to take in more refugees.

I would also expect Germany's efficiency to better deal with this particular problem. I like how they set up their refugee centers pretty quickly.

Just to be clear though, if a rich country doesn't want to take in more refugees or lessen the numbers it takes in, I won't blame them but I also think that they shouldn't expect their neighbors to solve their problem. Like Germany shouldn't export them back to Greece or Italy.

As for the in-the-way countries, imho, just let those refugees thru unless Germany or other rich countries keep out more refugees on your side of the border.

As the economical migrants pretending to be refugees, I am just drawing blanks on how to differentiate. Aside from it very likely for refugees to lose all identification papers, it's also pretty easy to forge identification papers.

[up][up] What I meant was about 100 years ago or more. Back before "made in Germany" became a sign of quality, which was the result of those measures. The arguments were usually how it was all a waste of time to have new employees being trained properly and they should rather just start working faster. I still think those were basically the same kind of people, you know, those guys who just don't want any kind of regulation.

Well, considering BVG have tested every other European Decker out there: Six-week Berlin trial for ADL Enviro500

A variant of Alexander Dennis’ successful Enviro500 double-deck is about to start a six-week trial in Berlin. The 12.9m, two-door, three-axle double-deck has been delivered to Berlin Transport Authority (BVG, Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe).

The Enviro 500 has proved a strong product for ADL and now operates in Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Auckland, New York, Las Vegas, Seattle, Vancouver, Ottawa and Toronto.

In the last 18 months alone, more than 2,000 Enviro 500s have gone into service around the world, while others are now in the pipeline for new markets, such as Switzerland.

“We are delighted to be involved in BVG’s extensive trial programme, which is designed to ensure the right transport resources are in place to meet the future needs of a fast-growing city,” says ADL chief executive Colin Robertson.

“As ever, the process forms part of our collaborative approach to engage with customers. Our aim will be to demonstrate the technical capability of our Enviro 500 model, the comfort, quality and performance characteristics, while also examining occupancy levels and the flow of passengers between the lower- and upper-deck. We are also keen to have a more practical understanding of the waiting time between stops and the impact of peak passenger periods.”

“I am confident that all parties will learn a great deal from this six-week exercise and that our Enviro 500 will perform well, albeit that our ultimate product offering will differ in terms of layout from the North American demonstrator vehicle participating in the actual trial.”

Let's see how it goes.

Incidentally, how much has Merkel's position been weakened by the Refugee Crisis?

Last time I checked they decided to publish a heavily edited version with many footnotes explaining the context of every passage (and also showing how much Hitler copied from other autors). This version will be twice as long but should make sure that nobody opens this book and just says "Damn this guy is brilliant" (ok, you could just read it up in the internet, but it is worth a try).

Merkel and Schäuble are sharing an interesting relationship. She destroyed his hopes of becoming the German chancellor once before, and now he might end up in a situation where he could end her chancellorship.

What is it with Dresden and political radicals? All I know about the city is that's its relatively economically disadvantaged (which is probably part of the answer to my question) and that it got flattened badly in WW 2 (which probably isn't related to my question).

Dresden is actually one of the most prosperous parts of Eastern Germany with a relatively low unemployment rate. Quite a lot of its' historical buildings have been rebuilt after German reunification (e.g. the Frauenkirche, which has been rebuilt thanks to many generous donations, many of them came from the UK btw. which I find especially heartwarming). The bombing raids are somewhat relevant today because at least some of the people living in Dresden like to paint themselves as victims of the "Bombing Holocaust" (not unlike the sentiment found in Japan regarding the atomic bombings). It is really sad to see this scum holding their demonstrations in front of the beautiful scenery of Dresden.

Mein Kampf: strange tales of the world's most dangerous book

EDIT: Cross-posted from the refugee crisis thread: The Lonely Chancellor: Merkel Under Fire as Refugee Crisis Worsens

There is no shortage of schadenfreude these days when European politicians speak about the German chancellor. The true ruler of Europe, who forced her austerity policies upon the entire Continent, must now come begging for help in dealing with the refugee crisis, people in Brussels are saying.
I really wish people would stop perpetuating this myth.
