I suppose it shouldn't be a surprise, but so much for "innocent until proven guilty".

If nothing else, this likely won't go to trial because no prosecutor will want to touch a case that's been thoroughly tainted by all the prejudgement of Zimmerman, fueled by half-truths and omissions in the national press (like, say, the almost total silence about an eyewitness to the conflict whose observations support Zimmerman's claim of self defense, for starters), Obama shooting off his big yap without having all the facts of an event that's still under investigation, and race-baiting by "Reverend" Al Charlatan Sharpton and others who are using it to make hay for their usual "scare up support by screaming 'racist!' at the top of your lungs" routine.

Oh, and the "white hispanic" thing mentioned on the first page? Barf. That's almost worse than the stories saying Zimmerman is "white". "White" could just be poor fact gathering, but "white hispanic" smacks of deliberate distortion to support a predetermined outcome.

[up]One eyewitness vs. many others that have gone on news programs.

And Zimmerman ahs had prior problems with overzealous pursuits, and had no actual authority.

Said witness was corrected by the police.

Thumped: for switching the discussion from the topic to a person. Doesn't take many of this kind of thump to bring a suspension. Stay on the topic, not the people in the discussion.

@Nohbody: According to the Christian Science Monitor, George Zimmerman's father is white and his mother is Hispanic/Latina, so I'd say white Hispanic is a perfectly reasonable descriptor. Even if Zimmerman identifies as Hispanic/Latino, that doesn't necessarily mean he isn't racist, either. It might make it less likely, but there's no rule saying that a member of one minority group can never be prejudiced against a member of another.

I still think there is some racism with the police. Regardless of whether or not Zimmerman himself is racist, the police should've arrested him, and I am pretty sure if Trayvon were white they would've. Also, just because Zimmerman did stuff with black people doesn't mean he's not racist. From personal experience, I go to a school in an area that is at least 50% black (in other words, there is no way to avoid interacting with black people) and there are still some die-hard racists. I know black people who are racist as well.

@The Deadman- CNN has edited the article for some reason. Try googling part of the excerpt I posted though, you'll get other results.

Zimmerman had no business following him in the first place. He set this whole thing into motion, and should pay for it.

Trayvon was about 100lbs less than Zimmerman and armed with skittles and tea. What could he have possibly done to Zimmerman that would warrant lethal force?

No, should pay for using lethal force against an unarmed teenager after disobeying an order from the 9-1-1 dispatcher to stay in his vehicle.

[up] It wasn't an order, they said he didn't have to follow the guy. He chose to to make sure the person he didn't recognize in his neighborhood didn't break into someone's house.

[up][up]That's what I've been thinking. It's not like Zimmerman just beat him up badly or something. Then you could say it was self defense perhaps gone a bit too far. He shot him. From what I've heard, the boy didn't just jump out of nowhere and attack him. Zimmerman started something with Trayvon. Anyway, it boils down to the fact that there was no need to kill him.

And how does that warrant lethal force?

[up]He was basically following Trayvon, if I was that kid's shoes I'd be scared shitless.

The problem is the lack of evidence and eye witnesses. we dont have alot of facts.

Your Completely Missing The Point.

HE followed and then engaged Martin. He HAD NO BUSINESS DOING SO AND WAS SPECIFICALLY TOLD NOT TO. Him getting hurt is the result of what happens when you pull that kind of crap on any American male teenager, if anything Martin was DEFENDING himself. Zimmerman probably realized he bit off more then he could chew and so resorted to lethal force, just like a cop would. As you can see, it worked.

Seriously, is that the backwards logic the police were using? It's not self defense when you're the one who engages the conflict first.

[up] Well, the point here is that this whole mess is "he said, she said".

We have no idea who struck first, or if there were any extenuating circumstances, or what have you.

I'm not going to judge Zimmerman until we have all the facts, but I can and will judge the police for not doing their job.

[up][up] He WASN'T TOLD NOT TO. He was told he didn't have to, but he was the local neighborhood watch. He did'nt know if the kid was up to something or not, he was trying to keep his area safe.

And what about Trayvon made him so dangerous in the first place exactly, as to be followed around in the manner that Zimmerman did?

Interested in your answer.

Genre Savvy. You start yelling about being attacked when you attacked someone, you've got a better chance of getting off the hook.

The Neighborhood watch isn't supposed to stalk and confront people. They are only supposed to contact the police and report suspicious behavior. Zimmerman ignored this, his actions are not justifiable because he was a member of the watch.
