Said witness was corrected by the police.
Ah. My mistake. ><
Very big Daydream Believer. "That's not knowledge, that's a crapshoot!" -Al Murray "Welcome to QI" -Stephen Fry@Nohbody: According to the Christian Science Monitor
, George Zimmerman's father is white and his mother is Hispanic/Latina, so I'd say white Hispanic is a perfectly reasonable descriptor. Even if Zimmerman identifies as Hispanic/Latino, that doesn't necessarily mean he isn't racist, either. It might make it less likely, but there's no rule saying that a member of one minority group can never be prejudiced against a member of another.
I still think there is some racism with the police. Regardless of whether or not Zimmerman himself is racist, the police should've arrested him, and I am pretty sure if Trayvon were white they would've. Also, just because Zimmerman did stuff with black people doesn't mean he's not racist. From personal experience, I go to a school in an area that is at least 50% black (in other words, there is no way to avoid interacting with black people) and there are still some die-hard racists. I know black people who are racist as well.

That's what I've been thinking. It's not like Zimmerman just beat him up badly or something. Then you could say it was self defense perhaps gone a bit too far. He shot him. From what I've heard, the boy didn't just jump out of nowhere and attack him. Zimmerman started something with Trayvon. Anyway, it boils down to the fact that there was no need to kill him.

Your Completely Missing The Point.
HE followed and then engaged Martin. He HAD NO BUSINESS DOING SO AND WAS SPECIFICALLY TOLD NOT TO. Him getting hurt is the result of what happens when you pull that kind of crap on any American male teenager, if anything Martin was DEFENDING himself. Zimmerman probably realized he bit off more then he could chew and so resorted to lethal force, just like a cop would. As you can see, it worked.
Seriously, is that the backwards logic the police were using? It's not self defense when you're the one who engages the conflict first.

Well, the point here is that this whole mess is "he said, she said".
We have no idea who struck first, or if there were any extenuating circumstances, or what have you.
I'm not going to judge Zimmerman until we have all the facts, but I can and will judge the police for not doing their job.

I'm baaaaaaack

I suppose it shouldn't be a surprise, but so much for "innocent until proven guilty".
If nothing else, this likely won't go to trial because no prosecutor will want to touch a case that's been thoroughly tainted by all the prejudgement of Zimmerman, fueled by half-truths and omissions in the national press (like, say, the almost total silence about an eyewitness to the conflict
whose observations support Zimmerman's claim of self defense, for starters), Obama shooting off his big yap without having all the facts of an event that's still under investigation, and race-baiting by "Reverend" Al
CharlatanSharpton and others who are using it to make hay for their usual "scare up support by screaming 'racist!' at the top of your lungs" routine.Oh, and the "white hispanic" thing mentioned on the first page? Barf. That's almost worse than the stories saying Zimmerman is "white". "White" could just be poor fact gathering, but "white hispanic" smacks of deliberate distortion to support a predetermined outcome.
