Some "hidden" background for Yorth Redbeard: He's married and has two children. It was an Arranged Marriage for business purposes—they don't love each other, but can tolerate each other well enough for short periods. He sends letters home via one of his items—sometimes he gets letters back.
SKJAM: I figured that might be the case. But Felix's branch of the family is somewhat minor. So any knowledge of their trading partners would be via osmosis. His branch is more crew and the occasional navigator, rather than captains and dealers.
Also, I'm about to go on music camp for the weekend, so just have Felix follow along. Or something.
You must agree, my plan is sheer elegance in its simplicity! My Tumblr
Sure, Why Not?. It beats my idea of just pulling Remember the New Guy? for every new character
...Come to think of it, I think Roland and Mak'karath are going to get along very well. The old folks are going to have quite a bit of fun at the party's expense.
More on-topic: How much leeway do we get for purposes of universe-building? Of course we'll try not to touch anything plot-relevant, but are we permitted to make up bits of history / geography for flavour?

Not a substitute for a formal medical consultation.![]()
I'm fine with you creating towns or smalls cities or minor characters to your heart's content. Like when you signed up, you made up Most Holy Order of St. Gregor, and Totemic created the Sun Empire, and Moerin just invented a "neighboring kingdom"; those are all a-okay in my book, since they create... something... that makes the character have more depth, but at the same time is ambiguous enough that we can merge them together into some sort of coherent setting without having to retcon a ton of stuff.
Just make sure that whatever you make up out of the blue is populated by "normal" races (pretty much any flesh-and-blood race that people created in the signup is good) and not, say, a goblin city, but you probably weren't going to do that anyway.
Oh, and you can assume that the kingdom has an ocean on the east and north-east borders, a few neighboring countries to the south, a marsh somewhere on that southern border, a pretty big lake somewhere, a big forest in the north-west, and a big desert way out past the south-west border where a bunch of semi-lawful border cities lie. That should give us a good bit of leeway with whatever you want.

Ah, that part. Unfortunately, due to the constraints of time zones, just assume that the first two paragraphs of my post start before your comment on the antagonistic members, the third after nman's statement on exploring the town, and the last two after the kobold starts ranting.

Not a substitute for a formal medical consultation.I'd rather we not get into the habit of having posts in an Anachronic Order. Trust me, it will get really confusing later on. Let's try to keep things sequential, time-wise.
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)I understand where you're coming from, and I'll try my best. But if my guess is correct, I'm on the other side of the world from most of you - so could I request a little leeway on that issue? Otherwise, my character is going to be perpetually one step (or a few) behind the others in terms of conversation.

Hey, so it's a discussion, where we can... have a discussion. The thread's up with one of those "everyone can say hello to each other" setups that are so popular nowadays.
Ye Rules of the RP:
Okay, now that that's out of the way, I would like my motto to be "Sure, Why Not?". If you think something would be really cool to have happen in the story, just post it here or PM me and either I'll handle the needed NPCs or you will or we'll figure something out. The only reason you can't just outright do it, despite me more than likely saying yes, is just so that we don't have eight of the "really cool things" happening at the same time. I mean, I'm more of a referee than anything else. I'll move the plot along if you folks can't think of anything you want to do, but for the most part, it'll be pretty open after the first few posts.
