So they are actually making the next movie, huh?

Anthony Head (Giles) will be taking over the role of Chiron, and Nathan Fillion(grin) will be playing Hermes.

Hope they do a better job than the first movie at least.

I liked the first movie. It was average, but it's not the crapfest that all those book purists made it out to be.

Looking for some stories?

Yeah I saw it in theaters before I read the books. The books are way better, though I can see why the age lifted most of the characters, but not the race lift (look we have a token black sidekick!) I think this series would get better like the books, just make it darker and edgier.

Well Nathan Fillion can't do wrong and Anthony Head is a fair replacement for Chiron.

I hope this could be better than the first (which was pretty decent) I have read the whole first series.

[up] For me, there's just one reason. I could let go that they kinda "ruined" the Percy/Annabeth romance subplot by making it sorta official at the end. I could also let go of the age changing and the race lift. Even chiron.

Hell, the plot being changed to that of a "collect all magical items" videogame? Well, that is a little annoying. Even if they added the Hydra, which was an extra at best in the second book. Oh, I could forgive the Chimera. Whatever, they can add it in another movie. No prob.

BUT...

The climax. Oh, Gods, the climax. I was expecting something kinda different with the fact that Ares hadn't showed up yet. But... Oh come on. Look at both climaxes:

Book climax: Percy faces Ares, the God of War, in the middle of an open area in the ocean. This happens while Los Angeles, if my memory serves correctly, has just suffered an earthquake and is burning. Percy manages to simply injure him before the battle ends. This event influences the climax of the third book.

Movie climax: Big Bad Luke Castellan reveals himself as the Lightining Thief, and proceeds to have a superhero-esque battle with Percy. Not only is it less awesome than the book, but it also ruins several events. First of all, many people thought that Percy killed Luke, wich would end the series. Second of all, it ruins the fact that Percy is clearly a worse fighter than Luke in the books, cutting off all the tension of future installments. Plus, they didn't even show Cronos. You know, the main villain of the series?

It's just... Ugh. The climax is atrocious. Besides, it would be difficult to make a faithfull adaptation of the series. Why continue it? I mean, they can, but the next movies have the chance of being as faithfull to the books as the first.

Oh God, this is actually happening? Considering how shitty the first movie was,I won't waste my money on this one.

i liked most of the changes...except for grover, but that's another story. i'm not a purist or a nitpicker, or a fanboy, or anything i like that. i just love books, and movies. end.

My friend is a purist when it comes to adaptations, so naturally he thought the first movie was one of the worst sins committed to celluloid he had ever seen. Hell, part of the reason he was afraid to see The Hunger Games was because of the fear that it would turn out like Percy Jackson.

As someone who never read the books, I thought the first movie was just...dumb. To me Percy and his friends had too strong of a grip on the Idiot Ball (I guessed Luke was the villain the moment he told them to look for 3 pearls despite it being a rescue mission), and the movie felt more like a combo of an American road tour video and a Greek myth trivia show. I'll admit the movie turned off my interest of ever checking the books out (though I seriously doubt it's the harcore complex "modern epic" my friend describes it as).

It's starts off as a standard kid's book, but as the series progress and the characters get older (along with the readers) the books got progressively darker and edgier. Right now I prefer the Heroes of Olympus series.

[up][up]Well, it does have elements of an epic, with the travelling and all. But all in all, it feels like a Harry Potter book. Wich doesn't mean it's bad, but your friend is kinda exaggerating.

... So they are making the second book into a film?

Well, if it has Anthony Stewart Head and Nathan Fillion in it, I'll probably see it just for them. cool Rule Of Sean Connery in effect.

What I personally disliked most about the film (besides the whole no Kronos thing) was that it removed the 'merging' the gods had done with pop culture. Like, I can't see the film's Hermes using an Ipod or Apollo breaking into haiku. Though I can see Kevin Mc Kidd wearing a hawaiian shirt, but he and his 'brothers' were (to me) the best bits of the film.

Also- there was no Clarisse, which made me sad. sad

Nathan Fillion just gives it a Keanu Reeves factor, now to hope this fails at the box office

I'm with Watchtower on this one. While I haven't read the books, I personally consider the Percy Jackson movie to be worse than the Twilight movies. I was practically counting the seconds before Annabeth lost her warrior cred and became the love interest/damsel, Percy wasn't much of a hero — and more of an idiot — in my eyes, and the less I say about Grover, the less likely I am to have a heart attack. (As a side question to those that have read the books: was there any reason why the warrior academy had to/decided to send a satyr instead of a regular human? Wouldn't it be easier to hide his identity? And by extension, why send in a centaur disguised as a paraplegic? And where did he keep that...er, extra mass?)

If the idea was to get people interested in reading the books via the movie, they failed triumphantly. Which is a shame, because I'm willing to bet that the books are far superior.

Maybe things will be better with this movie. If they make Grover into little more than a chariot's skid mark, that's already a marked improvement.

...Okay, maybe that's a little extreme. But between the two, in my opinion, and at several moments in my life, I'd be hard-pressed to say one of them's better than the other. I'd be really furious if I was a fan of the Percy Jackson series. Twilight is a bad film series based on a bad book series. I would assume that the awful Percy Jackson movie is based on a satisfying Percy Jackson book. So yeah. Preferences and opinions and all that. Also:

One of them is centered around the most idiotic romances ever featured in any medium.

The other had a goat-man dancing to "Poker Face" and getting his hooves done.

Really, can you blame me?

That and there are people out there who consider the Twilight movies good in a So Bad, It's Good sort of way. I don't know, but I wouldn't consider Percy Jackson to be bad enough to warrant Bile Fascination the same way the Twilight movies have.

My friends and I watched the first movie as a group and we called every single plot point in advance, with the exception of the lotus eaters. And my friends know the theme park version of Greek mythology at best.

Speaking as a fan of the book series! I'm with you 100% Voltech, Lighting Thief was worse than Twilight.

In fact, I would venture to say that it is the worst adaptation I have ever seen, worse than Dragonball Evolution, worse than Last Airbender, worse than Eragon. I'm convinced that they didn't even read the book beforehand, just looked at Wikipedia and they couldn't even do that right. They messed it up so badly, I wonder how they're even going to manage making Sea of Monsters.

Voltech: They sent Grover because this was his second chance to be a good guardian to Percy, and thus earn his seeker license, which would allow him to search for Pan, which is his life dream. I don't think they mentioned this in the movie, but I could be wrong. I haven't seen it in a while.

As for Chiron's wheelchair... it's magic.

The Percy Jackson movie couldn't have been worse than the Twilight movies, since the Twilight movies had the debatable virtue of being faithful to the books they were based on.

...But I would imagine that the Last Airbender movie was worse than the Percy Jackson movie. All that racism loads it down a whole lotta points.
