We have a dead thread autosweeper? Huh.
Does it take out anything that hasn't been updated in a while?
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerStalled discussion—ones having no action of any kind for 30 days—are routinely 'expired.' Today was the day the bot ran this month.
I don't see any stickied threads in the TRS Morgue. What was the title of this "welcome thread?"

Maddy fixed that, so it's back.
Do those autosweeped threads end up in the morgue? I can't see them right now.

"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerWhoa, that is harsh, and it shows that TRS isn't working. If discussion is stalled on something, it may need a crowner. If a crowner is stalled, it may need calling. Just discarding any and all debate just because it hasn't been bumped recently doesn't resolve anything, it just requires people to open new threads on old subjects and do the whole debate over again.
There are genuine trope problems being discussed in the TRS. Locking the threads won't make the problems go away. If anything, this shows that the thread cap in TRS needs to be (much) lower, so that all threads can remain active until resolved.

I hollered the Welcome thread for moveback a dozen minutes earlier - it had ended up in a forum called trsarchiove.
Yeah, I can't see them in the morgue either.
And about the backlog - I think this is something we should address over at the TRS backlog thread
.
I'm most concerned with them not showing up in the morgue (or at least not being readily findable there). As long as we can holler to get them reinstated there's not too much lost by locking idle threads, but sometimes it does take a very long time for stuff to happen, such as when a trope gets split or something and the next steps have to wait for the new part to go through YKTTW. If the threads just disappear off the face of the earth then that's an issue.
Calling someone a pedant is an automatic Insult Backfire. Real pedants will be flattered.
Yes, the slowness of YKTTW is another issue. Immortality has been slowed down almost entirely by the need to YKTTW every one of its new subtropes, which has taken a looooong time and still ain't done. But lock the thread, and it'll be awful hard to remember what still needed doing, let alone coordinate it all, when the last couple YKTTW's launch.

Oppression anywhere is a threat to democracy everywhere. No, don't just bump them. That's just more non-action. If nothing has happened in a month, nothing is happening. Make something happen—really happen—at least once a month. This is not an unreasonable requirement.
Nobody benefits from stuff that is just sitting there using up a slot.
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyAnd what are we supposed to do, other than ask for opinions? Take unilateral action?
If nobody is willing to discuss a problem, that doesn't mean the problem doesn't exist. If nobody is willing to do the work to move wicks, that doesn't mean the wicks don't need moving.
And these deleted threads aren't even in the morgue? That makes it impossible to figure out which ones still needed wicks moving.
This especially should not be done by a script, which can't check for ready-to-call crowners or wicks that need moving.

Oppression anywhere is a threat to democracy everywhere.Hmmmm, another issue is that many dead threads get stalled in the cleanup process. :/
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerSo, they're gone. No way to even know if wicks needed moving, because a script can't even look for that.
How many hundreds of wicks just got orphaned from threads Pending Final Action?
Before taking such a drastic step, why can't we lower the TRS limit to 400? Or take up Septimus Heap's very sensible suggestion to consolidate all wick-moving in one stickied thread? That alone would save tons of thread space. I can't understand why nobody is even discussing that suggestion. Nobody's even objected to it, they're just ignoring it, even though the wicks are one of the big causes of TRS stalling.

Oppression anywhere is a threat to democracy everywhere. It's not a lock. It's a deletion.
Anyway, it seems that we need to reopen the discussion about the TRS backlog somehow. The fixes of last year haven't removed it completely.
But this is probably the topic of another thread.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanSince this thread is sort of duplicate-ish, I think I should say that I agree we could use a concentrated wick movement thread.
Also, it appears we might need to lower the thread cap. I don't really like it, but we get too many stale discussions apparently.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerOK, here we go: Do we split this discussion between Wick Backlog
and Dead Threads
, ask for TRS Improvement
to be unlocked or do we make a new thread to fix these issues and debate solution proposals all in one place?
Wick backlog, dead threads and this thread all belong in the same place, in my opinion. The locked thread has drifted in another direction.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - Fighteer
Do you have a linky to the page? I've been looking for them at the far end of the morgue, but I couldn't find them.

Suddenly, the thread number in TRS has fallen to 380, while it had been 500 before.
Ironeye's stickied thread on Welcome to the TRS is also gone.
It seems like a whole page of threads is gone.
What's up?
