So, I've been hearing a lot of hype about this VN recently. Anyone here play it yet? If so, how is it? I'll probably start reading it alongside Kamidori.

Oh, and feel free to post updates on the translation here. From what I saw, four out of six routes are translated.

I've seen the anime. Generic fanservice stuff. Not quite interested in the VN but I'll check it out once translation's finished.

There is a thread about the anime in that section, which sees just about no action.

I've played it. I think it's a great VN, better than the anime. So naturally I would recommend playing it before watching the anime, as the anime also starts near the end of one of the routes. You're tossed so many characters in the first episode you're going to forget most of them, and what actually happens there is sparsely described. Still, you'll get the important parts.

It's funny and has a great pace, humour, and characters. The plot isn't bad either. I've not really heard about a hype, though I don't usually keep up with those kind of news.

Regarding this very wiki, I do sort of point out that while it did have an decently sized page, it was pretty much not crosswicked at all. I've done that for the main, but not the subpages. It also needs a bit of cleaning, as I noticed a few misplaced tropes and stubs tossed in as speculation for the anime while that was running.

Also, a friend of mine wanted me to spread the word that there now is a section for it on Fanfiction.net, with a total of one fic (written by said friend) and one crossover.

It scored pretty high on vndb (8.59), plus no day goes by on the visual novels general on /vg/ without anyone talking about it. Granted, it's 4chan, but that's pretty impressive, I think.

Why is it in past tense? The page still exists.

Regarding the anime, I think there's no surprise that it would turn out to be shit. Most VN adaptations end up like that anyway.

Past tense applies to the full sentence, as in, "It did have a decently sized but not crosswicked page". It now is properly crosswicked, and I'm going to work on the subpages when I feel up to it. Then I'm going to clean it. Feel free to help.

Yeah, there are very few anime better than the VN that spawned them. This certainly isn't one of them, as there are so many obviously mainstreamed details, most degrading humour at the expense of the protagonist. He's more of a pervert and less of a Butt-Monkey in the VN. Can't have that in an anime, no sire. Momoyo also suffered some degradation on her major character trait, honesty.

The anime did have a little more fun with Miyaki's hot sauce preferences, though. Also, it's still a relatively good anime if you like the genre.

Most of the time, anime can't fit the important content because V Ns are so long. It's like adapting a book into a film.

Yeah. Though it does depend a lot on how much filler there is in the VN. Take Clannad, for instance. That one's one of the longest I've read, but the anime was one of the better adaptations I've seen.

More often, it depends on that VNs are much more focused on singular characters, which doesn't work quite as well in an anime with an ensamble cast. In the case of Majikoi, there is already a great deal of interaction between various characters, even in the routes, so I believe an anime made out of the actual content from the VN could be done a little easier than other VNs.

Either way, that's not exactly an excuse for what they did do with the anime. I think mainly it was about making it more mainstream. Or rather, more closely resemble the popular series that do exist. Naturally, that just takes away from the unique aspects inherent in the source material.

I need a break from games and stuff so I'm going to pick this up now. Five routes are out, apparently, so I might as well. And apparently you can get raped by some guy if you make the 'correct' decisions. Debating whether or not I want to see that. I probably will.

Hm, Ageha. They Are My Noblemasters Ageha, that is.

First impression: I don't like the art and I don't like the effects. First heroine introduced seems like she might be funny, second looks kinda okay and the third has breasts so large that I expect her to float away. It's really distracting and not in a good way. On the bright side, Norio Wakamoto voices the Prime Minister.

You found her breasts distracting? I usually don't like sizes over reasonable, but this series got a pass for me in that regard. Momoyo is also my favourite character... I also found the art relatively acceptable. Not the best, but still above average.

Yes, that Ageha. It is set in the same universe.

The PM would fail without that voice, I think. He makes him more awesome than he should be capable of.

If you like the above, I'd recommend Mayucchi's route.

I'll get used to the art pretty soon. It's possibly more jarring than it would have been since I just finished Hoshizora where everyone apart from the twins is pretty flat chested. Actually, it's mostly noticeable when you see them from the side.

Usami voices the announcements and I am having a really hard time not thinking of Tensshin as Yamamoto Genryusei or whatever his name is.

I know what you mean about jarring if you go from one series to another. I didn't have anything close in mind when I started on this. Most jarring moment was probably when I went from the Shuffle VN to the anime, but that's probably off topic.

I've read all the translated bits so far. I'm looking forward to the Miyako route, I really like her character. The action scenes are fun and varied. I like seeing how they end up matching opponents against each other in the different routes, and the competitions they come up with.

I have no idea.

I actually don't like her as a love interest, mainly due to personal reasons, but I still find her an interesting character. It's a bit odd, as I generally dislike the type. On the other hand, there are other character types I also tend to dislike, but find okay here. The loli class rep is another. Also one of the few protagonists I like, like Tomoya. On the other hand, I really don't share Yamato's tastes.

His tastes? Personally, I'm interested in the fact that he's a blatant cheater.

Miyako seems like she's probably destined to annoy me during the actual heroine routes but for the moment she's kinda amusing. I find it weird that Miyucchi is apparently voiced by Ririko. Talk about jarring contrast between roles.

I think that's one of the interesting aspects of him. He's not the usual Law Abiding Rebel (a.k.a. borderline dropout and overall loser), but an actual cheater.

That's what I liked about Miyako. She isn't annoying in the other routes. The issue comes up, but isn't overshadowing the rest of the story.

Hm, more Kimi Aru references, though Miyu didn't actually appear onscreen. It makes me regret that I'm unlikely to see that one translated since the anime really made me feel that the VN was much better. Sort of like how I feel that the Majikoi anime probably focused on really shallow aspects of the story and ended up crap.

There are really only a few animes based on VNs that are actually similar or better than the VN itself. I've not played that many, but I can't personally think of any. Clannad comes close, though, and Shuffle was sort of mediocre both ways.

In Majikoi's case, the anime takes place after the VN, after most of the interesting character development takes place. Then again, just going by one route, many of them don't really happen. The anime was still a lot more bland than the game, though, no arguments about that. Well, aside from episodes 5 and 6. I liked those.

So I guessed right? And I was right because they skipped all the actual story content? Why would you do that?

Oh, so I guess Tesshin is as much of a Genryusei expy as he looks. His appearance was really obvious but the whole 'shoot and reduce all creation to ash' thing kinda sealed the deal.

Well, they do have their own story in the anime, which isn't too bad, but not better than the ones in the VN. As usual, it kicks in about halfway through. I suppose they did it to not just have a copy of the game, which pretty much describes most other series.

However, if you like the game, the anime isn't bad at all. It's still funny in the same way, and it takes itself just as seriously as it does in the game. That is, a little less so. I don't watch Bleach, though, so I can't say anything about that.

But still we don't see their relationship, the thing with Capt comes up and vanishes again pretty much instantly and there wasn't even an H scene.

There is an after story if you really want the H-scenes. I don't tend to like those, but this time I actually did, or at least the first part, before it became too ridiculous.

At any rate, it's one of those that's about the journey, not the goal. They're not likely to act much differently anyway, other than slightly more affectionately. And it's not like they've not been on any dates at al.

I'm not interested in the H scenes it was just a mark of how incomplete it felt to me.

Mayucchi next. Almost went for Chris but eh, pass for now. She's a bit too much of a stock character for me to be interested right now.

she's also Mikuru Asahina.Yup,imagining Mikuru in THOSE scenes makes it all...interesting...
