No seriously, there have been some cool studies done on us. PM fast eddie, he should know.
Go play Kentucky Route Zero. Now.I was suggesting you PM him about interesting studies that people have done on us. However, You might just want to send a message saying "this is a thing".
Go play Kentucky Route Zero. Now.TV Tropes at an Anime convention is redundant.
"Hey, you should know..." with "anything I should include?"
Fresh-eyed movie blogI'd like to know about these fascinating studies myself. They might help.
So, I think the best way to go is to start with explaining the site's general purpose, then explain what a "Trope" is. Then... I dunno, maybe start with an example of a trope, then use its examples list to segue into what a works page looks like, then flit through a few tropes before warning them about Wiki Walks. I figure if I can go from page to page fluidly enough, it will be fairly entertaining. Not sure where to go after that, because I don't want to just make it a list of tropes we'll look at for an hour or so.

I have a message from another time...I'm probably not of much use since I've never run a panel, but perhaps you could begin/have a section where you ask the audience to talk about some tropes (but phrase it without using the word "trope"—"common story elements/characters that show up in anime", maybe0?
I think a lot of people recognize them (using some common anime ones, e.g. "that thing where the protagonist runs out with a slice of bread in their mouth", "that thing where the main character is an Ordinary High-School Student", "that thing where the protagonist always sits in the back left corner of the room", etc.)—they're just not aware that there's a place on this Series of Tubes where people spend hours trying to catalog them and give them names. Then after naming some, you could explain how these are all considered tropes?
Meh, just trying to throw some ideas out there.

Tumblr here.Maybe do audience participation of "Most troperiffic Anime", see which one has the most and see if anyone can guess?
Go play Kentucky Route Zero. Now.

My college's Anime club is running a convention in a couple of weeks. I am actually roommates with the VP of the club, and he's asked me if I want to run a panel on one of the days. He suggested that I could talk about TV Tropes, for example.
I have some ideas of how to go about such a thing. For example, calling up tabs for various pages, relevant to the points and examples I'm going to go over, and opening the tropes in turn as I get to them, but I'm not sure if I'm equal to the task or have a proper way of going about it.
So I thought that there was no better place to ask for a bit of guidance than this place, before I make my decision (by Sunday) on whether or not I'm gonna do it. Got any suggestions, good topics to cover? Things like that?
