Detroit: Become Human (by Quantic Dream)

That movie series had plenty of good actors in it.

Yeah, just with lots of bad writing.

Even the actors agree on that one.

Never recalled them openly bad-mouthing the movies, at any point. But then again I really don't follow anything Twilight related, so...

Hell, even the twilight scriptwriter was, IIRC, a pretty talented dude who had the misfortune of working with truly awful source material.

The cinematography always seemed okay. Granted, I've only ever seen trailers.

Robert Pattinson has gone all but visibly mad with relief the closer the end of it gets.

And the movies did a pretty good job of adapting the novels. Beautiful scenery.

Anyway, back on topic, I dunno about you guys, but I see a fic in this story... now what should we cross it over with? Mass Effect and the origins of the Geth? The Bicentennial Man? The Caves Of Steel? Astro Boy? Dune? The Matrix? The possibilities seem endless...

Hmm. Quite interesting, but I would prefer to see what Kara is doing next.

If I want to see an ugly old man, all I have to do is look in the mirror next time I can be bothered shaving.

My reaction with all of these Hyper-realistic face engines is "ok, pretty cool. Now scare me with it."

I don't think he's particularly ugly, for old man standards.

But they want you to feel emotionally connected with these characters, to see their slightest expressions, to see their SOUL!

Yes yes very good.

Now make me afraid of it.

Deform it.

Make it into a monster.

Show me how it changes from human to... Other. Make its fangs push out. Make its jaw pop off. Make its eyes blacken and deform.

Or make it off. Make the characters notice it. Make it alien while still being human. Drop into Uncanny Valley intentionally with full knowledge that it's going to affect the characters.

Hmmmm.... I don't know if you can mocap any of that.

I do agree that such a direction would be interesting to see.

They may not be able to mocap it directly but they could approximate it to a degree.

So, this is a super necro, but it also seems relevant—this is finally being realized as Quantic Dream's new game Detroit: Become Human:

At the very least, the aesthetic looks absolutely gorgeous. And it's insane just how much graphics have changed since the original tech demo came out.

Either way it'll follow the same pattern as most David Cage games. It'll look good for the time but the story will be utterly nonsensical bullshit.

Watch this turn out to actually be set in the super-bad future in the Beyond ending.

I really loved the Kara demo but I can't help but fear that turning it into a full game will just turn out to underline all the usual Cage issues. i.e. that he's very good at making emotionally striking isolated scenes but he can't help but default to generic hack trope plot-spackle when he actually has to string those "moments" together into an extended story-line, and sometimes barely even that. I hope I'll be proven wrong, though. And the animation in the trailer is indeed ridiculous.

I could holler at the mods and turn this into a Detroit thread? It's done, someone should come along in a bit.

Beyond Two Souls barely even has a story. It would be better if it were linear but for some reason he makes it jump around and that deprives us of context for a lot of the stuff happening, not to mention railroading Jodie into a romance with Ryan regardless of her prior interactions with him, not to mention the entirely stupid final conflict where the military believes they can "conquer" what is essentially the afterlife.
