This thread deals with all issues concerning the icons used for namespaces and their buttons, including proposals for icons for new namespaces and bugs with existing icons.
When submitting an icon, the icon images should be exactly 16x16 png with a transparent background. A gif can also be used, but png is usually better. Also, the naming convention is important. It should be the namespace in lowercase.
I am compiling a list of namespaces that need icons, and icons for those name spaces. This would be preferred to be done quickly because I've convinced Eddie to hook them up when I get them complied. I will be editing the OP as we go.
NOTE: Use the link to the sandbox in the thread title to see what still needs to be decided on.
Subpages that still need icons:
- Animation/
- FanWorks/
- Manhua/
- Sandbox/
- Timeline/
Subpages that already have icons hooked up (please note, this list has been collapsed into a note, so that the floating header post isn't huge)

pages that have icons

Just went through the entire topic to double-check what current status on just about everything is. From what I can tell, we've got:
- Advertising/ $
◊
- Anime/ Eye
◊
- Awesome Music/ Something from this thread?
- Bollywood/ Film with flag
◊
- Blog/
- Comic Book/ Has an icon. It's the little lightning bolt one in this set.
◊
- Comic Strip/ Snoopy
◊ (or is this Newspaper Comics?)
- Creator/ Reuse of the quill/inkpot for So You Want To/ has been proposed. Are we doing that? To be fair, most of the So You Want To/ pages lack other subpages (I think?), so this button will almost never show up in that context...
- Disney/ Mickey
◊
- Drinking Game/ Wine glass
◊
- Fan Fic/
- Film/ Has an icon
- Franchise/
- Let's Play/
- Light Novel/
- Literature/ Has an icon.
- Machinima/ Machinima.com icon
◊ (I think)
- Magazine/
- Manga/ Astro Boy
◊ was proposed, but there was a lot of arguing over its similarities to Felix for Western Animation - I have no idea what we're using here tbh
- Manhwa/ and Manhua/ Brought up here, nothing concrete yet
- Music/ Has an icon.
- Podcast/
- Radar/ Has an icon.
- Radio/ Third one will be hooked up.
◊
- Recap/ Has an icon, but only shows up in watchlists
- Roleplay/ Wizard hat
◊ (no robe, sorry)
- Series/ Has an icon
- Shout-Out/: Megaphone
◊
- Tabletop Game/: Die
◊ (monster, you don't belong in this world)
- Theatre/ Masks
◊
- Video Game/ Controller
◊
- Visual Novel/ branching sign
◊
- Web Animation/ Homestar
◊
- Webcomic/ Stick guy.
◊
- Web Original/
- Website/
- Web Video/ This
◊
- Western Animation/: Has an icon
- Wiki/ Wikipedia logo was proposed, but no actual icon submitted.
- Wrestling/: Mask
◊
Ignoring the And The Fandom Rejoiced thing from last page; really not sure we want a tab for that, lest we need tabs for every other trope so large they broke into subpages by medium.

Yeah, I'm in favor of the eye.
And what about the Fan Fic namespace? That's been empty for as long as I can remember...
Maybe a picture of Ebony Darkness etc etc? Or would it be too tiny/unrecognizable?
Pinball cleanup thread![]()
Thanks for that.
And I'm definitely in favor of shipping the ones we have to Eddie.
Pinball cleanup threadI think some icons should be shared since there are some similarities with some namespaces. Anime and Manga should both have the eye for example, since both media are adapted from each other a lot. Let's Play and Video Game should share the controller because Let's Play is watching somebody play a video game, so it only makes sense that it should have the controller as well. Light Novel and Literature should have the same book icon; even though their styles are different, they're both still basically books that have an abundance of text and varying amounts of illustrations.
That's actually a bad idea, since there are times manga and anime are split into different pages. Fullmetal Alchemist, for instance, has two separate pages, and having two images would make navigating much simpler.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerSo a few suggestions.
I'm a little confused at Comic Book. The OP says it has an icon. Do you see the icon here? It's in here.
◊ I don't, unless we're repurposing Fetish Fuel's Catwoman icon (which I doubt). Doesn't exactly help that two of the biggest names in comics, Batman and Superman, seem to redirect to "Franchise" articles and don't even have Comic Book articles anymore (Spider-Man, meanwhile, does). That's probably more of an issue for Special Efforts or something, though; point is, those two are what I'm suggesting for an icon: Batman ([1]
◊), Superman ([2]
◊ or [3]
◊).
◊
Podcasts seem to use the RSS logo, so while the RSS logo is technically broader than just podcasts, it would probably get the point across
◊. Alternatively, an iPod
◊.
Blog could probably just use LiveJournal's icon
◊. It's admittedly not the forefront blog site anymore (that's probably Tumblr - or Twitter, insofar as that counts), but it was, and the image kind of works outside of that context.
I'm at a loss for Let's Play. The only thing I can think of is the Retsupurae logo (e.g.
◊), but Retsupurae is about lampooning god-awful L Ps instead of celebrating good ones (for instance, the kanji there means "failure"), so I can't seriously suggest that unless there's literally nothing better. Play button, perhaps?
◊
Wiki said The Other Wiki's logo was suggested, but never actually submitted. Here's a few of those to possibly go with ([4]
◊, [5]
◊, [6]
◊).
Did somebody already suggest a computer for Website? There's
◊ no
◊ end
◊ of
◊ icons
◊ for
◊ that
◊. Although a lot of these come from some icon sites which ask that we use this for non-commercial usage - dunno if that's an issue or not. This would probably overlap with Web Original, I dunno.
Fan Fic: couldn't find a motor fan that looked good at 16x16, but a cursory GIS came up with this folding fan
◊.
Newspaper Comic: Reuse Snoopy from Comic Strip. Aren't these the same thing, really?
I'll toss hiragana "a"
◊ into the possibilities for Manga, although I'm pretty sure it already had been. Still, if we went for that, we'd be free to use the eye for Anime. It's the difference between a mostly written/print medium and a mostly audio-visual medium, basically.
I haven't the foggiest idea for Magazine. GIS at 16x16 returns nothing particularly useful, except maybe Time Magazine's website's favicon.ico
- it's not very good, though. Similarly at a loss for Franchise - but that one's even worse, since it's more all-encompassing and abstract than a magazine would be.
And that's all I've got right now.

Moon◊Comic Book/ has an icon — see the recent changes list
. It's a lightning bolt thingy.
Point taken. I'll update my running total up there.
Hmm, I don't recognize half of what's in that image...

Yep.
The yuck face is for So Bad, It's Horrible. No idea about the anarchy symbol.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerThe rainbow is Ho Yay and the anarchy symbol is Avatar And The Last Airbending Fellowship Of Vampire Slayers, or whatever order that word goes in.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.Bumping this because, with the recent crackdown on Main/ redirects, new pages are going to become annoying to navigate if they don't have their own icons.
Is there a list of all the suggestions compiled somewhere, and we can start voting on them or whatever?

Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff.

Have we settled on something about anime and manga? And what about a Franchise icon?
