I miss swimming days.
Those were bomb.
We just got to fuck around in the pool. I liked to play "RACE TO GET THE WATCH AT THE BOTTOM OF THE POOL" with my friends. And be forever amazed at how well sound travels under water.
And diving. That was the shit. Being able to jump off something and fall into a body of water...
If someone wants to accuse us of eating coconut shells, then that's their business. We know what we're doing. - Achaan ChahTalking about gym class is bothersome for me. Athleticism just leaves me pondering and makes me sort of uncomfortable, because of concepts like uniformity, discipline, endurance...
Our PE class though was more mundane than what you see in certain fictions. Just a standard secondary school PE class. And it was quite fun when we got to spend the whole day playing tag football or something.
Middle school PE was more systematic learning. We did things one topic at a time, and at one point we actually learned juggling. I remember when we had formal rules about soccer and actually had an exam on those rules. High school PE though was more easygoing, partially an excuse to just go out and play. We still had annoying mile runs of course.
Now using Trivialis handle.A year of phys ed was required in high school, and I put it off until my senior year. Wasn't pleasant.
I'm a little hydrophobic, so the swimming portion was fucking horrible and I got a semi-exemption; I didn't have to do diving or anything like that, but I had to swim in the shallow end by myself for an hour.
For the rest of the course, they required a sorta-uniform, shorts and a white t-shirt. I could've worn shorts, but that would've been unpleasant for everyone. Found out wearing the pants that went with my karate gi was fine and dandy, though, so I did that instead— I'd been doing tang soo do at the time, so they were the closest thing I had to athletic gear on hand. Some people made fun of me for it, but then they started asking if I could do kung fu. Didn't wanna explain the finer points of martial arts to them, so I just said "yeah". They asked for a demonstration. Threw a couple kicks; I think it was a roundhouse, a hook kick, and for show, a side kick at about head-height.
They saw me do that, then looked over at the guy who'd been picking on me for a lot of the class and compared about how close my foot was to where his face would've been; one of them said, and I quote, "...uh, yeah, dude, maybe you shouldn't fuck with this kid any more."
Other than that, the whole class sucked, though.
I'll just note that we didn't have any swimming in our school. We get the more typical things of basketball and track with some weightlifting room tour.
Now using Trivialis handle. We actually only went to the weight room in gym if you took the class weight lifting. We had five gym classes to choose from; Team Sports I&II, Indivual Sports I&II (you couldn't take both though, the ones were only for Freshman) Water Sports, Outdoor recreation and Weight Lifting. I think there was a Lifeguarding one too if you passed Water Sports.

Can you at least go underwater?
I used to have a practical incompatibility with water for the longest time and only learned how to swim a couple years ago. In the pool, I was told to relax and dive in and come out. It really helped.
Now using Trivialis handle.Ah PE.
I'M IN IT.
So right now you have like three weeks of one thing. Right now it's DESPERATELY PREPARE FOR STANDARDIZED TESTING.
But it's been fun. Yoga was fun, tennis was fun, swimming was kind of nice. Badminton was ok, team building was awesome (YAY ROPES COURSE) weights was ok and uh...... oh we're doing general fitness right now. Which is boring but hey cardio is easy.
Right now I'm trying to decide what PE class to take next year.....
It's Tennis versus nets sports.
Though my other options are....
Dance
Cardio (that's walking)
Yoga
Team Sports
Sports conditioning
Weights

Bet you didn't see that comingI remember taking swimming class in kindergarten.
I remember running and then falling and cutting my knee really bad too.
While middle school gym was a miserable experience that makes me wince in memory, elementary and high school gym classes were pretty fun. I've never had a Jerk Jock gym teacher, they were all friendly, nice folks. The other kids were utter schmucks to me in middle school, but then I got to high school where I gravitated to the kinds of classes that attracted the non-jock types, including Walking Fitness.
I do miss elementary school gym the most, what with the roller skating, the track and field day (though the mile run sucked monkey balls), and the parachute back in kindergarten. And jump rope! And for some reason that song 500 Miles was played a lot.
Emperor Wu liked cake, but not exploding cake!
I find that odd, because we have default PE classes in basic, intermediate, advanced. You only take more specific classes, like off-season sports, if you want to.
At my school, health and fitness are one class, called HOPE.
NO TREE FOR ME (ALSO LOVES HER BOYFRIEND)Eh, phys. ed wasn't too bad. We played a lot of sports games like Mario Kart, and the Tiger Woods PGA Tour. We also did a lot of beanbag golf and when it wasn't ridiculously hot outside we'd play field hockey and flag football.

So wearing my old gym shirt from my Junior Year of high school I reminisce on that class and think of how to non-jocks, that class is stereotyped to be a miserable experience. But come to think of it, both my Freshman Year and Junior (you're required to take two semesters of gym at my old high school) were pretty fun, just flying under the radar, skipping class, walking around the track listening to music. I did nothing and still got an A. Feels good man. It's really weird someone like me, whose not very outgoing IRL, especially when alone, found themselves a group to hang out with and generally enjoyed the class.
So fellow tropers, how was your gym class experience?
