This is the Island of Giyo. A place situated in the middle of the major trade route that connects Rhodas and Ming. Due to being the melting pot of two major regions and a popular hot spot for travelers, it has developed its own unique and appealing culture of its own, borrowing many aspects of the visitors' customs and adapting it for their own use.

Lately though, multiple hotspots have been appearing in certain areas of the island nation after natural disasters swept through the region. They are called Mystery Dungeons, areas that have a purple haze floating over it. Those who venture inside would find an ever changing terrain full of hostile Pokemon, many of who have an evil aura about them. They attack those who dare enter their territory, and sometimes venture outside to snatch away those who can't fight them off, claiming future denizens for the strange territories.

Now in a state of emergency, the independent Giyo called Explorers to assemble and brave the contaminated areas in an attempt to find out how to stop the mysterious events from happening, as well as find a cure for the geography as well as those afflicted. Thus far, no cure has been found for completely destroying the Mystery Dungeons, though some influenced species have been found to be able to revert back to normal once beaten in battle. This of course, sparked an interest, and thus squads and individuals have been sent off into the mysteries to bring back more of their kindred from the abyss.

Among the many guilds speckled about the land, one in particular stands out. Nestled in the trunks of Cress Forest, is the town of Negi. It is settlement situated close to the natural harbor, and close to the major road system that spreads throughout the island. Wooden homes and establishments are lined up around the base of the great tree trunks that make up the forest as well as treehouses amidst the top for those who are capable of flight, with part of its area facing a river of crystal clear water for those who prefer water over land, where boathouses drift in the flow. of Here in this tranquil place, our story begins...

"Working hard, Hildegarde?" An elegantly dressed Torterra asked the flustered Hydreigon nearby, her gentle smile aimed at her partner who seemed to be at the moment hurriedly signing various forms in a frantic manner with her ambidextrous (and puppet clad) hands. "Would you like some tea?"

"...Yes." A low pitched voice echoed from the left puppet which stopped in its efforts for the moment whilst the right one flicked away a stray bang from covering her eyes. Hildegarde's mouth didn't move at all as she was quite used to throwing her voice via ventriloquism in order to save time and effort.

Smiling once more, Gozen the Torterra gently placed a clay cup of green tea nearby her partner, who was still diligently going about pencil pushing. "Today's the day, huh? The new generation of Explorers that we've been raising will head out on their first mission." That elicited a small smile from the worker, who finally set down her pencil.

"Indeed. I still think it's a little to early to send them out into the world, but I am definitely proud of them." The right glove responded this time, much quieter and melodious than the gravelly voice of the first puppet. The tint of a proud mother crept into her voice as she thought about it. "And we even have more experienced ones from the surrounding area to help the rookies. That sets me at ease."

"If only others can see your cute side like I." Gozen giggled as the dragon almost choke on her tea, before opening the paper umbrella she carried and holding it up against the glare of the sun that peered through the glassless window. "Some might say that opening umbrellas in dwellings will bring about bad luck, but if it's to help out someone that works this hard, I wouldn't mind." The Torterra said in such a straight voice that it caused the seated woman to blush and avert her gaze. "It's worth it for the show I'm seeing, eheh."

In the midst of the village, a Charmander was wandering about with a pack of supplies. So far, she had four berries bought from the local grocer, as well as a piece of Charcoal. Today is the day Explorers from our village are called out to explore a Mystery Dungeon... The rookie thought, having passed the basic exam and receiving the badge to prove it, the bronze pin in the form of sphere with a line going about in the middle and two smaller circles indented within.

Glancing at the sun dial nearby, she found that there was an hour till noon, when those new individuals would be given their first assignment . Natsu was abuzz with nervous energy, her face glancing back at the structure every few seconds. Soon, I'll be able to do Brother proud... She thought of the older Swampert, who took her in and raised her. Even if he was goofy and absentminded at times, he was a person she greatly respected and loved. Now, she would be able to do what her sibling did...

Fidgeting ever so slightly, Natsu clutched her supplies and waited upon the wooden bench, the air near her rippling due to her nervous energy that transformed into heat.

The Croagunk walked through the forest at a steady pace. He would reach the village soon.

His name was Crab, he had come here in hopes of aiding the village in their expedition into the dungeon.

He came upon the village, and started looking for the explorers.

Terria, or Rio as she'd have you know, arrived in the town. With nothing more than a heavy, tail-shaped object strapped to her back. The boyish looking creature wiped her forehead with a small sigh. It wasn't quite a trek through three different mountains, but non-stop travels were always tiring. Especially when you lugged dead weight around. But her strength and stamina must have improved greatly!

Now... now that she had left all the Larvitar and their ilk way behind on those said mountains, she could breathe a little easier. Oh, she could totally deal with those Pokemon! Obviously! It's just... well... it was hard to sleep on a mountain without worrying over whether or not it would be eaten along with her during the night.

But that was no problem now! Now that she had reached the town of Negi, it was time to show her power by joining one of these explorer team things that were investigating those weird locations with all the mist and stuff. Now to find the place to sign up...

Meanwhile, in the forest outside of town, an effeminate Pokemon dozed off under a tree. Not due to fatigue or anything, but the weather conditions had been just right for an afternoon snooze. and it wasn't like there were any feral Pokemon around, so...

It was rather easily to juggle with just one ball, Pagliacci found. There was probably some kind of philosophical lesson behind that, but as it stood it was more practical advice. Not all that practical, though. Who wanted to see someone toss a single small object up in the air for an hour? Nobody but Slowpokes had that kind of patience and they certainly weren't the audience he was looking for. They always forgot to tip, and when they did it was always when the show had long since ended. Vague racism aside, the Mr Mime was rather looking forward to whatever his next performance may be. If he ever had another performance, which in itself was doubtful. Street performing wasn't especially lucrative and there was at least some overhead to cover before he could really get started.

That was why he was here. Exploring was good work. The pay was nice, he'd get to meet new people, hell he might even get himself on the map for this. Maybe this would be his big break. Well, it would be if her survived this expedition. Pagliacci was no warrior or cunning rogue and he doubted that these dungeons could be bypassed by simple slight of hand and some knock-knock jokes. Truth be told, he'd come rather under-prepared as well, armed with only the Lum berry that he juggled in his left hand, the green fruit traveling in smooth arcs through the air to meet his palm. It was all he could afford, really, aside from the clothes on his back and even those were ratty and smelled of things the entertainer didn't even want to conceptualize.

And so he walked, whistling tunelessly as he strode past the village's many wooden buildings, the trees that hung overhead providing a welcome amount of shade. The trip to Giyo hadn't been a pleasant one, fraught with storms and foul smelling cabin boys. Whoever said that the journey was more important than the destination clearly had never traveled by sea. Though, then again, neither had he until a few weeks ago. Still, he was here and that was all that mattered. There was no doubt that he'd get at least some recognition here. Or perhaps none at all. The island was packed with tourists and that had its own share of advantages and dangers. But, if he made it out at all, he'd make it out a richer man and that was what really mattered. The clown caught the berry yet again and stuffed it into his pocket midstride. Didn't want to risk losing it, right now it was all he had. He wasn't exactly in a hurry, though. There was still some time to enjoy the sights before he dove right into this who adventuring thing and he wanted to squeeze as much out of that last hour as he could.

Maybe he could find an audience while he was at it.

Claire was taking her time to hang around in the middle of the town, basically doing... not much of anything, for the moment. There was going to be all kinds of people in this group of adventurers. People she knows, people she doesn't, some people she knew very closely... And some people who she didn't know existed until this day. Well, that was part of the fun of it really, she decided. Stretching her limbs, she glanced around. The town wasn't that big, so she should be seeing the rest of the adventuring team any second now... right?

Hm.

Maybe she had picked the wrong part of town to meet in... Stepping away from the wall, she looked around again and then headed for a different part of town. Perhaps that was the correct meeting spot?

Inwardly, Claire cursed her momentary absent-mindedness.

Meanwhile...

Sephie hugged her own ponytail. She'd pulled the portion of her own hair around her front specifically to hug it as she walked along. It was certainly large enough to do so. As she walked, she contemplated the day. It was sunny, which meant plants would grow and birds would fly, since birds flew when it was sunny, not when it was rainy. Obviously, this meant that birds were incapable of flight in any weather but pleasant weather. It was just they kind of thought process that went through the Kadabra's mind.

As she walked along, she released her ponytail and withdrew a spoon. Casually, she exerted her telekinetic power to bend it with little effort. It was a nice way to pass the time as she looked for the other adventurers.

"Sephie wonders where everyone is," she said aloud.

Sally wandered between the trees, looking for somewhere to take a quick nap before going out on her first mission as an explorer. There were lots of pokemon in town, so it was really noisy. Not to mention the reason the dungeons needed to be explored anyway, pokemon were getting kidnapped. But there weren't as many pokemon in the forest, so that meant less chance of getting kidnapped. Wait, if she was going to nap, and she was a kid...did that mean she was going to kidnap herself? Did that make her a bad pokemon? She'd have to ask someone about that.

"Oh..."

She spotted another pokemon, a Kirlia, sleeping. So it was a good place for a nap! Adjusting her baggy pajama pants, Sally walked over to the other psychic type. She considered cuddling up and taking her nap. The Kirlia didn't seem bad after all...but she didn't think she seemed bad either, but she didn't know anymore. She poked Kylie's cheek softly, hoping to wake her up so she could ask her about stuff.

Baron floated silently, through the village of Negi. His eyes were closed, giving the impression of sleep, though as his eyes were always closed it was difficult to tell. It also raised the question of how he could see where he was going, but regardless... He had come for the adventure, he told himself, exploring these strange dungeon. In reality he came to make friends, to meet new people, start over, a fresh slate. He wasn't one to ponder on his own desires, however, and thus settled for floating silently, wandering, looking for fellow adventurers.

Leona held her tail, whipping it around rapidly, painting with exuberance. She was blushing slightly at the raunchiness of the piece, but she had been struck by inspiration, and it's invisible hand was guiding her brushstrokes, leading her to make a masterpiece. She'd been at it for almost half-an-hour, and was now nearly complete. The whole town would be able to see it, and they'd know she had talent. She was still going to have to explore those dungeon places until she could sell some of her art, of course, but when she got going on her art, she'd be famous. She finished the painting with a few more careful strokes, and then went to sign her name. She'd gotten as far as ~L when the shopkeeper came out and she had to run.

He was left to stare incredibly at a picture of a pair of rather curvy Kangaskhan, one had her legs spread and the back of the other's head was between them. The one spreading her legs was also covering her breasts, with her tongue out and one eye closed in a wink. The other pokemon's body seemed to end at her waistline, where Leona had run out of wall to paint on. When Leona wanted her artwork to attract attention, well, she knew how to make it noticeable.

Quilton looked at the where the sun hit the floor and from experience deduced it was almost noon. With a sigh he put away his sketchpad and readied himself. He donned his blue armour and threw his satchel over his shoulder. He took one last look at his room to check he hadn't forgotten anything. It seemed so empty now that his siblings had moved into their new explorer teams' rooms. Oh well, maybe one of the rookies he met today might make a good room-mate. Or if he was feeling particularly desperate he could move home again.

He exited the Guild Hall, nodding to the few people still loitering that he knew. He paused just outside the door, taking in the view. Today he'd be entering a Mystery Dungeon for the first time. If they were anything like Tyler had described, this would be a day to remember. Quilton looked, trying to spot any lost rookies before heading off to the meeting place for the mission.

As Pagliacci wandered, he passed by a rather odd bit of street art, depicting a pair of Kangaskhan women in the midst of some act he'd dare not describe to a minor. He raised a brow at the display, but didn't show much other reaction than that. Freedom of expression and all that. The brushwork was actually pretty decent, too. He'd have stuck around to get a closer look if he didn't have places to go. This "L" guy must've had some serious stones if he'd painted something like that in a public place. Pagliacci could learn a thing or two from that. Not the nude women, obviously. No, it was more the ability to go out there and express yourself without fear of rejection and without caring what the populace at large thought. That was art, right there.

In his modest opinion, anyway, which in the long run didn't matter worth squat. He walked briskly past the painting and soon came upon a Croagunk youth, a good bit shorter than him though not enough that the entertainer dwarfed him. "This modern art, huh?" He joked, jerking a thumb back towards the wall. A few moments of pregnant silence passed. "You headed to the Guild Hall?" He asked. It probably wasn't the best conversation starter, but the Mr Mime never claimed to be a fantastic conversationalist. He just hoped that he'd get an answer in the affirmative, otherwise things were going to get very awkward very fast.

"Mama! Mama!" Eve said, waving at Claire and... not trying to hurry up to the Jolteon. It was something of a health hazard, attempting to run anywhere when you were seated on someone's shoulders, especially when that person—inconspicuously disguised as a Ho-Oh—was holding on to make sure that you didn't fall off. "We got the milk! Umm... why do we need it?"

"Good for you. Easy to drink," Lucy answered, coming to a halt beside Claire and placing Eve on the floor, revolving to gaze at the strange mural on the wall. What sort of person painted that where children could see? Huh?

As the time marched slowly on for Natsu, the young Charmander found that she couldn't stay in one place all too well. Rising from her seat, she unconsciously began walking towards the Guild Hall, which unlike its name, was an amphitheater set upon the crest of a small hill, polished wooden benches encircling the terrain in a somewhat wide crescent arc that layered upon itself towards an elevated stage, which was currently empty at the moment save for a giant flashy banner that had the slightly choppy words of Explorer's Meeting.

Gazing about, she saw a few other people nearby but couldn't work up the courage to actually meet her soon to be acquaintances. Withdrawing in her metaphorical shell once more, the shy Charmander waited for the meeting to start. It was palpable, how nervous she was. Still, just a few more minutes to go...

Alicia walked forward, her tail swishing back and forth with a determined aura about her. What was all this stuff going on? Disasters? Infections? This wouldn't stand. "Alrighttyyy!" Alicia placed hands on her hips, looking around the surrounding area. So many different species! It was like a parade of color! The girl grinned. Well, at least she wasn't going to be bored. "Helloooo! Alicia Algar is here!" she boasted, holding her chest out. She closed her eyes for emphasis! Everyone had to know who she was!

Well, that was nice that, like, some people would know her name... but then she remembered people wouldn't care in the least. Should she make them care? YES, but now? NO. Time for ORIENTATION. The girl scuddled about, entering the stadium. Back row? Too far away. Up front? No, someone would probably call on her. No no, can't have that. OH AWESOME, A SEAT IN THE MIDDLE! "Dibs!" she said, quickly running down and through a crowd, taking a seat with a cat smile prominent on her face. PERFECT. Wait, wasn't she craving attention just two seconds earlier? Oh well.

Claire cheerfully came to approach her daughter, and Lucy, before her gaze came to fall on the mural as well. Her eyes widened in shock. After a moment of stunned silence, her had flew to cover the Eevee's eyes. "Let's move very quickly towards the meeting and never look at that wall again, isn't that a good idea?"

Well, that and alert the local authorities. The jennies(police were often nicknamed jennies, even the male ones. Claire wasn't sure why) would want to see to getting rid of... that.

Sephie found her way, eventually, to the meeting place. As usual for her, she did what was unexpected, ambling over to the seats and... climbing up onto one and standing on it, facing forward.

Whoever this 'L' was, maybe they should investigate painting such things in people's homes? Soon, though, about the same time that Eve was dragged away with her eyes covered and asking why her eyes were covered, the Ditto tore her eyes off of the mural and ambled after her currently-shorter (Claire, after all, would be lucky to be judged five foot four, whilst Lucy was currently six foot two) partner.

"Ah..." Too many people she didn't know. Not good, she wouldn't be able to make the first move with anybody... oh! Is that Natsu? "Natsu~" She waved and walked over to the only person here she recognized, she'd talked to her before and even considered her a friend but they didn't really know each other very well yet. Natsu was nice, though, so that was enough reason to like her.

"Not much of a talker, are ya'?" Pagliacci asked, though he didn't exactly expect to get an answer. This Croagunk didn't seem like the most sociable type. Probably best to avoid him. The last thing he needed was an unresponsive audience. Stoics were the bane of entertainers everywhere. He approached the Guild Hall, a large coliseum-like building. He'd have preferred something with roof, but as long as it gave him a little extra elbow room he wasn't going to complain.

The Mr. Mime entered and took his seat, giving a polite nod to the three Magneton girls who were sitting not too far from him. "Ladies." He said, almost under his breath. A quick look around the hall revealed quite the collection of Pokemon. Some of them he didn't even recognize. He'd have to keep his distance from the Charmander, she seemed a little nervous and in his experience when Fire-types got nervous things started burning. Usually him. With any luck, they could get this thing started quick and he could be on his way.

Leona walked briskly into the Guild Hall, blushing and panting slightly. She thought once more to her masterpiece, and to the signature she never finished. For the best, probably, because she really didn't want people to think that she was into... things like that, because she obviously wasn't. Okay, apparently the Guild Hall is an amphitheatre. So Quilton was in whatever dormitories the Guild has (or if they don't have any, a flat he was renting with his siblings)

Quilton cracked his neck and headed off to the amphitheatre where they were meeting. It was only a short walk. He saw a few groups and individuals heading towards the same place. He didn't really stop - even when he passed the Kangaskhan mural - and arrived quickly.

Looking around at the assembling crowd, and all the new faces, Quilton confidently walked down the steps and took a seat at the end of the front row. He had thought there would be more experienced explorers to help the rookies. To while away the time he turned sideways on his seat so he could look back up and across the amphitheatre. He pulled out his sketchpad and charcoal, and started doodling while he waited for Hildegarde to show up.
