Bethesda is gonna Bethesda I guess.
I gave up on them with Elder Scrolls Online. So far I have yet to have a reason to go back.
Disgusted, but not surprisedStarfield? Starfeld more like.
Oh God if they use the same shitty engine for their new IP.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Personally I think they should just publish some Id games until their devs can create a new engine that isn't total garbage.

I'm assuming Starfield is where they'll display a new engine built from the ground-up seeing how they expanded quite a bit a while back, but that's wishful thinking.

Without John Carmack, building a good new engine is a tall order.
Ukrainian Red CrossThis'll probably get some chuckles out of the thread.
“I started hearing this high-pitched whining sound to my right. At first I thought it was just a car with a worn out fan belt, but then I realized it was this big British guy yelling at me,” said the toll collector, Conrad Holmes. “He called himself the ‘vanguard for consumer rights’ and went on this whole rant about ‘regressive taxation masquerading as infrastructure.’ Then he put on one of those medieval bird masks and threatened me with a baseball bat shaped like a dildo."
Footage from a nearby security camera corroborates Holmes’ account. On the recording, Sterling can be heard saying “you sit in your ivory tollbooth, chattering on about how you care about the motorist experience and driver choice. But all you ‘AAA’ tyrants of the road care about is squeezing every last bum-fingering dollar from as many poor saps as possible.”
Steven Pierce, the driver behind Sterling in the toll line, reported “everyone was honking at this guy non-stop, me included. Finally the cops showed up and hauled him away, but even then he was throwing things at them and yelling ‘don’t you fucking touch me, I know wrestling.’”
Police later confirmed the thrown objects to be children’s toys called Boglins.
"Strange thing is, I actually found myself agreeing with a lot of what he said. Like, why should I have to pay to use the freeway when my taxes already support it? Especially when every year the price goes up, but the pavement is all uneven and full of potholes,” Pierce added. “I just wish he didn’t have to be such an annoying blowhard about it.”
After being released on bail, Sterling was nearly arrested again due to a tirade at a Chipotle after he was asked if he wanted to pay an extra dollar for guacamole.
As for Jim's official statement on the matter, he's absolutely disgusted any major news outlet would publish something so slanderous as to make people think he eats at Chipotle.

🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaOkay, this is funny.
I echo Jim's disgust. I've actually been to a Chipotle before...<shudder>.
At least Taco Bell isn't nearly as pretentious.
Now I kind of want to try an Illegal Burrito someday. Anything that is good for an angry British man is good enough for me.

Disgusted, but not surprised"I just wish he didn’t have to be such an annoying blowhard about it."
and this right here is why i feel like movements in general, much less ones centered around video gaming, hardly work. it always seems like the conversation delves into "YOU'RE A FUCKING IDIOT" and continue circlejerking with the crowd they're preaching to. it's a sad reality of people like Jim Sterling and YongYea - the people who usually watch already know how bad AAA companies are, the people that don't prefer they let it stay that way because they just don't give a shit, and the people that don't but want to be educated are few and far between.
don't get me wrong, i agree with a lot of his videos and i love that he's an "annoying blowhard" (i'm usually one myself, although i'll usually stop when adding more truth = more fuel to the emotionally-fueled fire), but sometimes you just gotta step back and really wonder why people still don't care about the least regulated industry in America (aside from the fact that your average Joe kinda give a shit about how bad lootboxes are now).

weaponizing Dungeon Fighter Online elitism since 2018Thought it was real for a moment,I did chuckle
New theme music also a boxI'm gonna take it Hard Times is basically The Onion of the new age, yes?
I'm quite confident in my shitposting you knowYou do realize the whole thing is a joke written by a fan of Jim’s work, right?
Besides, people being annoying blowhards about this shit is the only thing that seems to lead to any results at all. It sure beats apathy.
Also, Yong Yea sucks.
Disgusted, but not surprisedYong "literally reading other people's articles" Yea.
Also yes, Hard Times is The Onion of gaming culture.

Seriously, if I wanted a Kotaku article, I'd fucking read it myself.
Disgusted, but not surprisedJim Talks about the AAA industry and pre-order early access.
This is what's meant by the phrase 'late stage capitalism'.
Ukrainian Red CrossThere was only one thing that last video reminded me of:
"Pre-order Total War: Three Kingdoms now to get access to the Yellow Turban Rebellion!"
For all of Jim's (and other YouTube provocateurs'—Jason Schreier's words, not mine) focus on EA, Activision-Blizzard and Ubisoft, one other "Triple-AYYY" video game company has been sneaking in pre-order BS—SEGA.
Ever since they started with Total War: Rome II and the Greek City-States DLC, pre-order bonuses have become a staple of some of their games. And this is despite some of their games still being released in a buggy, Obvious Beta state. (Looking at you, Creative Assembly...)
- The Ardennes Assault expansion for Company of Heroes 2 had the "Fox Company Rangers" available as a pre-order bonus, and is still actually available via a hidden Steam store page instead of selling it alongside the "Theater of War" scenario DLCs.
- The Chaos factions for Total War: Warhammer and the retro Norsca DLC from Total War: Warhammer II ("retro" because the Norsca DLC is for the previous game, not the second).
- And as already mentioned, the "Yellow Turban Rebellion" for Total War: Three Kingdoms.
And the worst part is, I seldom see those DLC sold below 75% during Steam Sales and the like. Well, I don't think I'll be buying the Total War: Warhammer series (or Three Kingdoms) if that trend continues. It's a shame, too, because if not for all that pre-order DLC bullshit, I'd consider them good games.
But after what's discussed in that video, it's a good bet (though an unsurprising one) that SEGA and their associated investors / shareholders are sure to double down on pre-order BS in their upcoming games.
(*sighs*) I can't believe that the only line standing between the increasingly exploitative "Triple-AYYY" video game industry (as well as Small Name, Big Ego indie devs with Obvious Beta / asset-flip shovelware under their belt, MTX-happy "trash-tier" mobile games, and shills / apologists defending all three) and the full, unhindered exploitation of video game consumers are a bunch of YouTube provocateurs like Jim, YongYea, SidAlpha and a few others.
"Learn as if you will live forever, live as if you will die tomorrow."And Yong Yea and Sid Alpha have their own baggage that makes Jim Sterling of all people seem like a reasonable person. It took me a few vids in to realize that Yong Yea wasn't someone I should be following. Fortunately it only took me one or two vids for me to realize the same about Sid.

Disgusted, but not surprisedI'm very cautious with gaming pundit youtubers because someone can seem alright and then suddenly they're ranting about the awfulness of feminism and the SJWs. That and some of them don't know when to turn off the angry ranty persona, whereas Jim mostly keeps that constrained to Mondays.
I've seen YongYea's videos floating around in my recommendations, but never really clicked on any of them. What's so bad about him?
Well one of his recent videos was about that whole controversy of that Youtuber who got his videos of beating up a suffrage feminist in all sorts of gruesome ways in Red Dead Redemption 2 taken down.
He defended said Youtuber, calling the taken down of his videos censorship or some shit like that.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."And that's another internet funnyman for my "no fucking thank you" list along with many others
I'm quite confident in my shitposting you knowIt's a shame because I did like Yea during his stint covering the Fallout 4 console mod fiasco. I never followed him regularly, but I assumed he wouldn't do something stupid like this.
Nerds in general have a bad habit of crying "censorship" whenever something they like is threatened, like skimpy clothing on women becoming less so or titillating minigames being removed. This often goes hand in hand with misunderstanding how the first amendment works, in case you didn't know.
