However "cheesy" it might have seemed to Frank Oz, I think that the touch with the Dead Faces had the effect he was looking for of "the characters aren't 100% dead" without a curtain call. Further, it prevents the audience from just being "WAAAAH WHO GIVES A FUCK ABOUT THE WORLD" throughout Don't Feed The Plants.
Also, Shota, my point is that, though mediums might have different strengths, the sentiment expressed by "the death works onstage but not on film" insults the audience (by stating that they can't take the impact of a character death) and the medium of theatre (by stating that a character death has less impact in it). It's pretentious, and further, it's pretentious in the weirdest way, seeing as people who love theatre and Downer Endings tend to be more pretentious in general.
