In the Kingdom of Nirn, the people have been oppressed for years. They have endured hardships at the hand of a greedy king who seems only intent on fortifying his army, improving the castle's decor and size, and making the parts of the kingdom he cares about beautiful. However, while the rich flourish under his rule he has made enemies of everyone else in his kingdom; however, any sign of anti-king sentiment is dealt with immediately, with more serious cases involving death.

There was a man named Stu, a great knight. He was powerful and seemed perfectly loyal to the king. One day, though, he went and spoke with a group of people who were clearly upset with the king, what with having their lands removed from them for various off comments in a bar. He convinced them to start a rebellion, and so they did.

All was going according to Stu's plans, and the rebellion came to a climax in the capital city of Tellius. Then Stu came in, with his "Obsidian Knights", and attempted to take control of everything. But something went wrong, the King had planned for all of this ahead of time, and in a moment of Magnificent Bastardry managed to personally cut off the head of Stu himself, causing the knights to lose morale and leave. During the confusion, the leaders of the Rebellion saw that this was a horrid time to continue the attack and ordered a retreat.

Here we are again, at Square one but with knowledge of another third faction.

Discussion The RP

Co-GMs: tachikaze, Flame Haze 17

Rules:

  • If it weren't obvious, no Godmodding.
  • All player characters shall be members of the Rebellion, and therefore allies.
  • While there may be various forms of magic, I'm afraid I must say now that there is to be no manipulation of other Player Characters' minds. If you have any mind manipulation magics, this is fine so long as unimportant NPCs or enemies are the only targets ever. Breaking this rule means I break your character's mind so they can't do it to others.
  • No Killing PCs without the other player's permission. There may be special cases where it's unavoidable, but I guarantee I can find a way around that.

Some preemptive world-building:

  • Our magic system may look familiar to some:
    • White Magic:
      • Manipulation of Light
      • Healing
      • Protections and barriers
    • Black Magic:
      • Manipulation of Shadow
      • Summoning of the Undead
      • Sacrificing something to obtain power/etc.
      • Taking life from something else to give yourself life
    • Red Magic:
      • Manipulation of Fire/lava/earth
      • Quick acting spells that are hard to respond to, but quickly running out of options in battle due to using all tricks at once.
    • Blue Magic:
      • Manipulation of Water/Ice/Wind/Weather
      • Manipulation of the Mind/Illusions
      • Carefully thinking, taking long times before acting so as to choose the appropriate reaction
      • Cancelling out enemy magic
    • Green Magic:
      • Manipulation of Plants/Animals
      • Life Energy; Always seeming to INCREASE in mana rather than running out
      • Thrill of the hunt means that you outsmart your prey and take them down through weakening then completely overpowering them
  • IF YOU ARE A MAGE YOU WILL ONLY BE ALLOWED ONE OF THE ABOVE COLORS OF MAGIC
  • Weapons can be enchanted, as can armor. This means that soldiers of such are not only still relevant, but often the quick action of simply swinging a blade can outspeed magic at times. Also bows~.
  • Here are a few races to choose from:
    • Humans: Basically, what you are most likely. They are capable of any non-race specific magic and have a decent amount of mana. They are the most prominent race in Nirn.
    • Elves: They are lithe, shorter than humans in general, and generally have much better eyesight, allowing them to see farther while still seeing up close. This leads to a number of them using bows and/or poisons. They have the natural racial magic of "Gathering", which causes them to gain a small boost in overall fighting ability for every elf they fight alongside. They cannot cast Red or Blue magic, and generally using green is best.
    • Dwarves: They are generally very short but very stocky. Strong, sturdy, masters of the Forge and the Mines. They can create weapons that far outclass that of any other race's weapons. They stick to Red Magic when they bother with such stuff.
    • Goblins: The same height as the Dwarves, which is to say, very short. They are green and have black hair always. Their eyes are often yellow. The race has an immunity to natural diseases of all kinds, and most poisons; This has led them to be rather filthy as they suffer no consequence from staying dirty. They are not generally welcome in ordinary social setting but they are not any less common in Nirn than any other non-human race. They generally tend to stick to their own crafted (and often poisoned) weapons, as they have a unique sort of iron that takes on poisons and keeps it there forever as a permanent effect of the weapon. They stick to Black Magic in general, but can use any but White or Green.
    • Giants: Tall, stocky, muscular. They are brutes that only use magic for shielding and light in the dark, therefore they only have such White Magic. Occasionally you'll find a healer as well. However, they stick to their (usually dwarven made) axes, maces, and clubs, for powerful blunt damage. They talk somewhat more slowly than other races, but aren't actually any less intelligent.
    • You may create your own race if you wish, I just added some here to get things going and to cover the basics.

OK! So the character skeleton:

  • Name:
  • Age:
  • Gender:
  • Race:
  • Appearance: (Pictures are always nice! :D)
  • Personality:
  • Brief Backstory:
  • Non-Magic abilities: (Like swordsmanship, jousting, cooking, anything else that may be relevant)
  • Magic: (If Applicable) (Remember, only one color of magic, so anything within that color is available but the MORE you're capable of, the less effect it will have usually)

This looks to be something of considerable potential. I have a character I've been thinking up that may sort of fit here. I apologise for the rather low quality character bio.

  • Name: Ignatius Bellator
  • Age: 14
  • Gender: Male
  • Race: Human
  • Appearance: Generally thin and (relatively for age) tall human youth. Pale skinned with jet black hair cut short except for a large portion spread down to cover the left eye socket, where the eye has been heavily mutilated, leaving it entirely non-functional. The remaining eye is a dark brown with a small circle of blue inside (central heterochromia), which was also the case with the now-missing eye. Missing right ear and the middle fingers of both hands, all down to stumps. Only possessing of a single set of clothing, basic generic black clothing, heavily torn and tattered. Adaptations to clothing in order to have a sheath for small dagger on waist and carry a large shovel on back.
  • Personality: Cold and heavily unemotional. Generally prone to large extents of apathy and under-reaction, and unmotivated for most things other than survival. Rarely fully trusting of others, but willing to work with most people he sees as potentially helpful.
  • Brief Backstory: Lived for the earliest part of his live as the only child of a normal peasant family. His parents spoke up against the king, and were made to watch him being tortured (how he lost the eye, ear and fingers), then killed. He was left for dead and dumped in a forest but was found by a healer and as such managed to survive. For the next six years of his life he lived alone, wandering across the land with a focus only on survival, mainly using theft and hunting with both dagger and magic, and on occasion participating in fairly random tasks or honing skills. Practises death magic and robs graves in order to get human corpses to use.
  • Non-Magic abilities: General survival skills, hunting, stealth, theft, digging, grave-robbing.
  • Magic: Black, focusing on death. Summons weak undead out of dead animal corpses or human cadavers taken from graveyards, and draining life from the living to weaken or kill them.

  • Name: Tatiana Lockwood
  • Age: 16
  • Gender: Female
  • Race: Human
  • Appearance: The one in the middle. Sans cape and sword most of the time.
  • Personality: Despite her choice of career and school of magic, Tatiana is a genuinely good person. She loves her country and hates to see it suffer under a tyrant's rule. In public, she tends to keep quiet with a neutral expression. Only speaking when she actually has something to add to a conversation, be it something relevant, a sarcastic quip or a terrible pun. When she's working, she's even quieter, prefering to let her knives do the talking.
  • Brief Backstory: Tatiana loves her country, has always loved her country and will always love her country. However, however, she's not a big fan of the man running the show. In fact, since she was old enough to understand what happens to people that express their dislike for his highness, she's wanted to see him fall. To accomplish this goal, she dedicated herself to the arts of black magic and stealth. After all, the last all out attack had failed miserably, so subtlety's probably the smarter way to go about this.
  • Non-Magic abilities: Good aim with throwing knives, somewhat capable with a sword, a surprisingly good singer and cook.
  • Magic: Black magic. More specifically, shadow manipulation. Even more specifically, she can temporarily bond a single target and their shadow, causing them to take whatever damage their shadow would. If someone stands on the crotch of her target's shadow, they'll be in pain, if she throws a knife at the head of someone's shadow, they'll most likely die.

  • Name: Duncan O'Cennaire
  • Age: 17
  • Gender: male
  • Race: Human (though there are...hints...he might have some giant blood.)
  • Appearance: Duncan is simply huge, standing at seven feet five inches tall and weighing in at over two hundred pounds of muscle, one would expect such a heavy fighter to be a brutish monster...he is not. He has a handsome face, though he has one scar running down his cheek and to his jawline. He has somewhat shaggy black hair, and green eyes. He usually wears a suit of simple, though heavy steel armor, and a sheath across his back for Durandal, his greatsword. Under the armor, he wears a cotton shirt, slacks and boots.
  • Personality: Duncan is a very jovial, nice and friendly, if flirty, big guy who nonetheless thoroughly enjoys smashing heads when in a fight, but outside just likes making friends, drinking and generally being a nice guy. Just make sure you do not kill people without a good reason nearby him. That could result in some strong attacks heading your way. Duncan has a very responsible consciousness, resulting from years of being informed of "what being a knight really means" by his father. While his family are nobles, they have fallen on hard times, the King seizing their land and giving it to a more loyal bunch did not help. Duncan is very much a person who will be altruistic, and is willing to do anything in order to help his friends.
  • Brief Backstory: Duncan was always just a bit bigger than other kids his age, standing at five foot nine at twelve, and only getting bigger with age. While other big guys out there went into nasty brutal phases, he became downright nice. When his family was dispossessed, he decided to join the rebellion, bringing his formidable sword skills to the table, as well as some latent magical abilities he has not trained in yet.
  • Non-Magic abilities: Duncan is very good with that giant sword, Durandal. He is also a capable poet.
  • Magic: The O'Cennaire family has a history of strong magic abilities, mostly in a section of Green Magic which would let the user amplify his strength in various ways.

  • Name:Etherinne Skypalm
  • Age: 240
  • Gender: Female
  • Race: Dragonic-Elven
  • Appearance: "What are you staring at? Soon, my fist shall break your skull if you don't pay attention."
  • Personality: She is generally happy go lucky and somewhat ditzy, which belies her calculating mind and incredible cognitive abilities she keeps hidden. Likes to make friends and enjoys life. She also likes researching new concepts, and thus will try to coerce others to participate in her "experiments".
  • Brief Backstory: A wandering alchemist with 2 hundred years of alchemical knowledge, she seeks to make the infamous Philosopher's Stone to free her brother from a high level stasis curse. In the meantime, she plans to gain as much knowledge about the workings of alchemy through any means necessary.
  • Non-Magic abilities: Etherinne is highly effective at close combat, equipped as she is with pair of mithril gauntlets that sprouts a long dagger from the hidden wrist sheaths, as well as compatibility for direct hand to hand combat. An adornment of hidden pouches containing special herbs and recipes used to cause negative effects such as paralysis and poison. She's also built up a rather impressive amount of immunity to various natural poisons and toxins through repeatedly ingesting or injecting small amounts into her body.
  • Magic: In lieu of the traditional magics, Ether uses Alchemy. She uses it to activate quick chemical reactions that require the barest amounts of energy as well as craft various new items for her usage.

So, uh... Yeah. I have no idea what I was thinking here! But here goes anyways~!

  • Name: Jeri
  • Age: 5
  • Gender: Female(?) (technically genderless, but takes a feminine form)
  • Race: Slime
  • Appearance: Tamest example I could find. Might be a little not work safey.
  • Personality: Jeri is... Kinda weird, to be honest. It's abundantly clear that she doesn't quite understand the solid races very well, despite all her attempts to fit in with them. Slimes aren't usually noted for their intelligence, and she easily surpasses every other slime in cognitive faculties despite being a little bit dim by human standards. She doesn't exactly have much shame, and is rather puzzled why some seem to be flustered by the fact that she's technically always naked.
  • Brief Backstory: An anomaly amongst the usually almost-mindless slimes. Soon after she was spawned she began to notice that she was different from the others of her kind, most notably in the fact that she was, in fact, fully sapient, something that quickly began to trouble her. Not able to take living with her own kind for very long, she ended up oozing her way towards the nearest human settlement, where she took up her humanoid appearance as a way to fit in with the locals. Not that it really worked all that well, but eventually they realised that she meant no real harm and began to put up with her. She joined the resistance completely by accident; she just oozed her way into their headquarters one day and they haven't been able to get rid of her, so they decided to at least put her to some good use.
  • Non-Magic abilities: Due to her gelatinous body, she is almost completely immune to physical damage. The only kind of weapons that can really do any notable damage to her are cutting and slicing weapons, and even then the damage they do is negligable. Her body is malleable, and she can manipulate it into all kinds of forms, although she mostly settles on a roughly-humanoid form with the occasional tentacle. The fluid that makes up her body is technically her digestive system, and if she keeps in physical contact with something for a prolonged period of time she will absorb it into herself and digest it. Notably intelligent for a slime.
  • Magic: Blue Magic, namely manipulation of water and ice. By drawing in water she can increase her size, and by freezing herself she can maintain a more solid form for more powerful physical attacks.

  • Name: Sari Unnoroc
  • Age: 16
  • Gender: Female
  • Race: Nem
    • Nem are largely human in appearance. However, there are some important differences. All Nem have black hair, and their eyes are usually red or yellow. In addition, Nem rarely reach heights beyond 4'8, 4'0 to 4'5 being the average for an adult. They are usually slender, and all Nem are also very, very pale. Nem are best-suited for activity at night, having excellent night vision, but nothing keeps them from activity during they day aside from personal preference(well, and direct sunlight exposure. They burn easily). Nem are rather physically fragile in comparison to other races. However, they are quite fast. Nem have a notoriously low alcohol tolerance, due to their small size.
  • Appearance: She's about 3'10, a normal height for her species at her age.
  • Personality: Sari enjoys having fun. For her, fun frequently involves playing tricks on others, sneaking about, and generally causing mischief. She's not callous, and won't go two far with her tricks, but she'll play them on just about anyone she possibly can. She generally maintains a cheerful air about herself. However, she is fully capable of becoming serious if the need be. And her cheerful trickster attitude is not without bite: She is fully willing to fight or defend herself, and has two long, thin knives to do it with. Sari dislikes the sun a great deal, as nem suffer sunburns very easily.
  • Brief Backstory: The daughter of a rich noble, Sari felt restricted by her family life. It didn't particularly help that her mother had died when she was young, and that her father was a cruel man. This eventually drove her to run away from home. Since then, she has spent her time as a trickster.
  • Non-Magic abilities: Competent skills with knives, enough acrobatic ability to move through a town via rooftop, some basic stealth skills, and super sunburning skills.
  • Magic: Extremely basic personal buffs, for her reflexes and speed.

  • Name: Dagarent Alfiron
  • Age: 33
  • Gender: Male
  • Race: Giant
  • Appearance: A 20-foot tall, somewhat tan man with a shaved head and short black beard and mustache. He wears simple cotton clothing - brown pants with a white shirt and suspenders - and simple hunting boots. He also walks around with his staff, made from a 24-foot long, six-inch diameter tree; even though it's made from a relatively light and strong type of wood, it's still almost 300 pounds and has metal bracers every 2 feet to keep it from shattering.
  • Personality: He tries to be selfless, compassionate, kind - a gentle giant, so to speak - but has some anger issues.
  • Brief Backstory: He was a priest at a pacifistic human convent that was open-minded to that whole "six-thousand pound giant" thing, healing those who would come and doing other priestly things, as well as fixing the roof and reaching things on the top shelf. One day he returned from a trip to a farmstead where he had been dealing with a ghost to find that a few members from a crazy cult had come through town and killed a small girl for one of their rituals. He proceeded to run down the road for a day to catch up with them, and caved in their skulls. However, realizing he had forsaken his vows of nonviolence, he knew he could never come back. So he continued on the road, helping those he could, and relying on the hospitality and gratitude of others for food, as well as the occasional deer he manages to grab in his giant hand.
  • Non-Magic abilities: He... smashes very well.
  • Magic: Stereotypical clerical powers, all related to the manipulation, summoning and channeling of... gooditude. So I guess Holy Smite/Exorcism, since you've gotta have a smite power. A "Holy" barrier, which gives minor protection from attack, but is mainly used against evil stuff. Illumination, which lets his staff act like a lantern, kind of like Gandalf. And restoration, which lets him heal others by strengthening their immune systems, speeding up cell division, and generally promoting regeneration.

  • Age: 24

  • Race: Goblin
  • Appearance: Probably the one on the right, methinks
  • Personality: Rough, honest, and a love of the fight is to describe Baleust. However, he has a great love for others protecting them if he can, and treasures his friendships. Out of battle, he enjoys travelling, and seeing what other people do. He speaks in a playful tone, making the occasional remark or two.
  • Brief Backstory: Even as a child, he was completely willing to fight back against others. To to do, he sought practice from a former goblin mercenary, who was impressed by how determined Baleust was in doing so. When the rebellion started, Baleust was eager to fight, ready to go against the tyranny that plagued this country he cared for so.
  • Non-Magic abilities: Baleust is a fast duelist, using a short sword and dagger in hand. He has great endurance, able to go past his fatigue in dire straits. He's also an excellent marksman, using a crossbow, or throwing objects if he has too. He can also sneak very well, to the point where he's almost untraceable. Suffice to say all of the weapons he uses (other than whatever he'd throw) have that goblin poison he learned to create.
  • Magic: He uses none.

Another RP I'm curious to join...I have to ask though...would it be okay for my character to have a revolver.

I just assumed Dwarves having weapons outclassing others would mean they have firearms (Because if there are guns in fantasy, they tend to be in the hand of the dwarves) although, I know a 19th century weapon is really pushing bounds. If allowed, I'd Hand Wave it with it being rare because the guy who created the very few revolvers in existance was killed before he could make more...

EDIT: Also, if the idea somehow passes, it would use round bullets like what you'd expect from a primitive firearm and take a long time to fully reload (because if it takes a bit of time to reload a single shot pistol, it would take about six more times to reload a six-shot revolver).

I assumed the thing about dwarves having weapons that outclass the other races' was a reference to their general stereotype of being master smiths and usually having access to far better materials due to their mining culture. Mostly because that's what that usually means when used in reference to dwarves.

Personally, I'm not exactly sure about bringing guns into a high fantasy-ish setting, seeing how I think they don't really fit, but I'm not the GM here. Just putting in my two cents, I guess.

But than...I was aiming for a revolver...which is not exactly a primitive firearm at all...ah well, might as well ask.

Meh, I always think of them as crossbow users, personally. It fits their slow and steady nature, their aptitude for mechanics and their physical strength. But that's just me.

I can see them as gunpowder users thanks to growing up with Warhammer, of course. Just that that's low fantasy and you'd kind of expect that kind of thing there, and I think this is high fantasy, but I'm not entirely sure at the moment.

Crossbows aren't anything like longbows, though. Completely different firing mechanisms. If anything, the crossbow is closer to a primitive gun than a bow. Actually, it's kind of where bows and guns meet halfway, really.
