Well, this happened in a Braves game once, and they just laughed it off as being a "Rocket J. Squirrel", instead of going all Ascended Meme. tongue

The Met's have had squirrels in the out field a few times. I remember seeing a compliation once at Shea.

We already have a second Mascot though.

Jamie Moyer becomes oldest pitcher in all of MLB history to win a game.

Got to respect Moyer for all that he's done. A salute to the man, who was pitching before many of the players he faces were born.

Did anyone see that 3 run homer by Holliday?

PERFECTION.

Kudos to Phil Humber for pulling it off.

Gotta love how the big money-movers of last off-season (the Marlins and Angels) are both in the proverbial toilet. Money don't buy wins any more. tongue

Now this is sad.

Poor Rivera, indeed. Hopefully, that is not the end of his career.

Heh, the Braves just swept the Cardinals Squirrels. Sorry, van, but I guess they weren't up to snuff. Speaking of that, though...

The SI (and by extension, Fangraphs) power rankings are laughable. WAR is a useless statistic (29 of the 30 teams have different records than WAR would indicate). And considering the #1 team just got swept by the #5 team...

Is anyone else amused that the three highest-paid teams in the league are all near the bottom of their respective divisions?

I know I am. While the Rays have been proving for the past five years that big money isn't needed to win games, it looks this season is determined to drive that point home. (No pun intended.)

I know I love it. Money can buy players but it can't buy wins when your players suck or all the good one get injure.

I like seeing the Orioles do well, because it puts the Yankees and Red Sox in their places, but it makes me sad that they are doing it with a player who my own team gave away in a stupid trade (That would be Adam Jones, formerly of the always pathetic Seattle Mariners).

Okay, I will give Fredi Gonazalez credit: his unorthodox decision to have the Braves pitchers bat eighth in the lineup recently seems to be paying off quite nicely. Besides, it makes a nice change of pace from coaches and managers who do everything by the book.

[up]I certainly can't argue with results, but it makes me nervous: Tony LaRussa tactics are more often than not a sign of strategic desperation.

Well, LaRussa retired, so someone had to pick up the slack in that area. tongue

Honestly, I'm not the biggest fan of having pitchers bat ninth, especially with the normal stress put on having a solid leadoff hitter at the top of the lineup. It makes more sense to me to have someone batting ninth who can get more baserunners for a leadoff hitter to play with.

I figure a number nine hitter should be someone fast enough that it doesn't seem like your leadoff man is stuck behind him. I suspect that's the reason he isn't batting his pitchers ninth. Then again, I follow an AL team, so what do I know?

Hey, my team just did something interesting. Six Mariners pitchers combined to throw a no-hitter against the Dodgers en-route to a 1-0 victory. I guess they can do something right from time to time.
