I'm expecting Jean will be back not this year but next, for the 50th anniversary.
Funny enough, I found out that there was a storyline published in 1987 titled The X Men Vs The Avengers. Well, at least they waited for 25 years and not ten years before releasing a storyline with a similar title!
Still, you should check out this gallery of pictures here
!
If the advertisements are to be believed (Covers Always Lie), it looks like Hawkeye vs. Cyclops, Iron Man vs. Magneto, Ms Marvel vs. Rogue, Colossonaut vs. Thing, Hulk vs. Emma Frost, Spider Man vs. Ice Man, Wolverine vs. Captain America, Spider Woman vs. Gambit, Angel vs. Dare Devil, Beast vs. Luke Cage, Storm vs. Thor, and Psylocke vs. Black Widow.

Oh, Equestria, we stand on guard for thee!Yes, that seems like a rather uneven fight. The comic book writers likely won't let Iron Man get his ass kicked, even though that is what should justly happen.
Seriously, he's in a metal suit. Crush the suit with him in it into a small sphere and there's the end of Tony Stark. And Magneto's done plenty of things that require more power than that.

Yeah, a fight between Iron Man and Magneto would certainly be interesting! I mean, at first glance I would think it would be a Curb-Stomp Battle, because Iron Man is coated with metal, and Magneto the Master of Magnetism could easily rip the suit off him.
But...what if Iron Man uses a suit that is totally non-magnetic? Then I betcha the fight would be at least more even. Does anyone know if Magneto can fight well without his magnetic powers?
Oh, Equestria, we stand on guard for thee! There would still be metal somewhere in the general vicinity that Magneto could use. And Magneto, thanks to an understanding of physics, also has equally useful electricity-based powers, which means electrifying Stark using the suit would also be pretty easy.
Unless Stark wants to try building a suit out of plastic. Or wood. And that's something metal can cut through pretty easily.

A couple sample pages
from Entertainment Weekly. Looks more good than bad, in my humble opinion, though the dialogue in the Utopia scene needs work. I was reminded of Dr. Ralphus Galkensmelter
.
Kinda disappointing that literally the only Phoenix story they seem to reference is the original. All those years Rachel hosted the Phoenix Force? I suppose Gage will be left to talk about that in Legacy, while all the high profile writers just forget that it happened. Morrison's New X-Men? Nothing. Endsong? Nothing.
We'll see, I guess. We've only got 7 pages from the first issue. But even Scott says "the last time we dealt with the Phoenix," as though they haven't dealt with it several times since then.
Anyway, the art in that preview is a lot better than JR Jr.'s normal Avengers stuff. A lot cleaner.
As for the teaser images we've been given, those aren't the actual battles that'll happen. They're promos. They're not going to do a bunch of one-on-one battles. Daredevil isn't going to fight Angel. Gambit isn't going to fight Spider-Woman. It's going to be more general group battles, all against all.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.^^^^ It's still much more of a fight if Stark has a non-magnetic suit. At that point it turns from a Curb-Stomp Battle to a regular fight with Magneto, given that he could do all the things you said to pretty much anybody with the same level of danger. Losing his trump card, he's left to fight the way he normally would against people.
Other thoughts about the promos: - Wasn't Wolverine supposed to be fighting on the Avengers' side in this one? The promo shot goes against that. - The costumes of the Avengers women show a lot of skin, which seems like a monumental piece of foolishness when one of the people you're fighting is Rogue.
Hey, everyone knows in comics fanservice trumps logic and sensibility. It's one of the medium's most endearing irritating quirks.
Honestly, Ms. Marvel - who really ought to know better - being paired with Rogue and showing that much skin is just foolish.

We don't know which side Wolverine will be on. In the preview, Steve asks him "Can I count on you?" and he doesn't answer. The solicit for issue 3 says that he and Steve will fight in that issue. It'd make more sense to keep him with the X-Men, if only because the Avengers movie is coming out and they don't have the rights to Wolverine.
Also I already made this thread

Hmm, so you have. Sorry!
I hope The Avengers put on ruby quartz outfits, or else they might have a Curb-Stomp Battle when they take on Cyclops.
Now, Wolverine and Captain America...hmm. If a fight occurred between them, I would bet that the fight would turn out pretty much even. You have Adamantium claws versus Adamantium shield, both of them are experienced soldiers, and it's hard to say which one of them would come out on top!
Oh, Equestria, we stand on guard for thee!Re: The Avengers working for the government, I'm not quite sure of the status now, but originally they just had *an agreement* before, where the government gave them certain privileges (like allowing them to fly their vehicles in American airspace) in exchange for some considerations like not ticking off other governments. But they have never seen themselves as being the USA gov's lackies.
And the government doesn't have sentinels to KILL mutants, but to defend themselves in case of mutant attacks (considering the damage people like Magneto have done, you can't fault them.) Heck their last version weren't even autonomous, but Humongous Mecha piloted by humans.
Good point re: Jean and the X-anniversary. Of course, she could come back THIS year and then be the focus of next year's crossover.
And I'm pretty sure that by now Iron Man has taken measures to fight Magneto. He's Marvel's Batman! His armor has considerable electromagnetic equipment already.
Oh, and Cap's shield cannot be magnetized, Magneto himself has noted that.
And yes, the Avengers fought with the X-Men in the 80's, over Magneto, when they put him in trial for sinking a Russian submarine. The Soviet Super Soldiers (which btw also had three mutant members) were also involved.
The Government has attacked mutants without provocation before, though. Look up Operation Zero Tolerance and the Neverland Prison Camp. The Marvel US Government, with a bit of Fridge Horror, is probably one of the evilest governments ever depicted in fiction. At the very least, I don't think any real-world government has done anything to anyone on the same level of depravity as the fate of poor Emma-0052

The problem is that it's never quite clear what's still canonical and what isn't. I mean, if I recall correctly (I've not read the relevant issues, if I'm honest) the justification for Operation Zero Tolerance was that it took place as a response to the appearance of Onslaught, which killed off most of the main non-mutant superheroes. However, I'm not entirely sure if Onslaught is still canon at this point.
"The Marvel US Government, with a bit of Fridge Horror, is probably one of the evilest governments ever depicted in fiction." You think Marvel US is bad? No. No, Marvel Canada is the most evil country in the world. For being the nicest people in the world, we sure do seem to be a cruel, monstrous nation.
"However, I'm not entirely sure if Onslaught is still canon at this point." Why wouldn't he be? He's even been used a couple times since then.
As for Jean returning, don't bet on it. I don't see her returning for a while yet. If she does come back, she needs to be kept far, far away from Scott and Logan.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.Which is all well and good, but Magneto's powers have grown to the point where if he doesn't have any nearby metal to throw at stuff, he can just rip it from miles away. Seriously, he pulled in a giant space bullet from lightyears away, pretty much anything metallic is fair game for him, regardless of range.

Yeah, I've heard about that. As a Canadian, that portrayal of the Canadian government makes me...FURIOUS! OUTRAGED! SICK WITH ANGER! <huff, huff> Really, portraying the Canadian government as a bunch of Complete Monsters...for shame!
Yes, Magneto did pull that huge bullet from light-years away. But...he had to strain himself hard to do it, and he even ended up in a coma for a while! Hey, they had to put limits on the old man's power, didn't they?
Boy, if I was on The Avengers, I would be working hard in preparing some strategies.
1. Cyclops, I would definitely bring ruby quartz as a shield, or find a way to put it over his eyes and essentially render him blind!
2. Rogue, I would make sure to wear an outfit that covers all the bare skin.
3. Emma Frost would be a two-parter, because I would need diamond weapons for her diamond form, and a device that would block her mind powers.
4. Storm...I don't know if there's much that could be done to fight her, except for sending Thor after her!
5. Colossonaut, boy, not only does he have metal coating his skin, but he also has the abilities of The Juggernaut. Outsmarting him would be a good idea!
6. Magneto, well, if there was a way to switch off his powers, then he would be a sitting duck!
7. Ice Man, since he uses ice powers, I would bring fire - lots and lots of fire!
8. Psylocke, the first part would involve getting past her mind powers. Then the next part would involve being able to fight better than her at martial arts.
9. Gambit, I would probably want to fight him at long distances. I wouldn't want him grabbing me, filling me up with energy, and making me explode!
10. Wolverine would be hard to take down. With that said, I would find a way to knock him out at a long distance, since his abilities seem to be only effective for close quarters combat.
Oh, Equestria, we stand on guard for thee!
