Maiden Aunt: Good quote, but not for this trope. I suggest the following, also from Arsenic And Old Lace:

Police Sgt. Brophy: They're two of the dearest, sweetest, kindest, old ladies that ever walked the earth. They're out of this world. They're like, they're like pressed rose leaves. [speaking of the Brewsters aunts, who he doesn't realize have poisoned several men]

I've put Muffet on Spiders Are Scary and added the other couple suggestions to the quotes tab.

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

Eternal Recurrence has two quotes. I support the first one. The second fails to make clear whether it's an instance of the trope.

[up] I also like the first one, for simplicity if nothing else.

Keep the first on Eternal Recurrence.

No thoughts on the suggested change for Maiden Aunt?

I don't know, I don't think neither the current nor suggestion describes the trope that much. There isn't any mention about conservative and unmarried, for one thing.

Continuously reading, studying, and (hopefully) growing.

I agree. We need something that talks about being old-fashioned or never having married.

Armed Farces: The current is a bit... weak on the Military part, in my opinion. It's less military humor and more just a Cloudcoocoolander's rant. The rant itself has very little to do with the military itself, with the fact he's called a soldier doing the majority of it.

I suggest this from Red Vs Blue:

  • Sarge: Sorry Donut, but the military laws are very clear in regards on the 'not it' methodology for making decisions.
  • Donut: Awww man! There's just so much about the army that I don't understand!

Armed Farces: It's Red Vs Blue. Other than that, swap.

You mean the "not it" methodology doesn't have a place in real armies? But yeah, that one's better.

No, it means that the namespace was wrong.

If no one has a suggestion for anything better, I'm going to just delete the current quote on Maiden Aunt. It's too far afield for moving to the quotes page.

Removed the Maiden Aunt quote. It looks like Cool Uncle also needs to go. It's not actually a quote, and is not at all an interesting or amusing illustration of the quote. Does anyone have suggestions for a replacement?

The quote for Strawman News Media was about a Real Life event. In the "Real Life section maintenance" thread it was voted No Real Life Examples Please, so I deleted it. The problem is that I'm not sure which of the quotes from Quotes.Strawman News Media (or something not already on the Quotes page) could go to replace it. Any suggestions?

I would go for Gary Webb.

That and the Dilbert quote were the two I was inclined towards, but I thought I'd seek other input on the matter. The two referring to Fox News are about an RL news media (even if a parody version thereof, within the respective shows), which makes me think they're not entirely suitable given NRLEP.

Real Life material as portrayed in works is not subjected to NRLEP.

I know. Maybe it's just that I'm sensitive to the whole "Faux News" thing that seems popular on the forums here (with which I disagree, but that's not the subject of this thread or even this subforum).

Second Place Is for Losers has two quotes, and "Winning isn't everything; it's the only thing" was proposed as a third on the discussion page.

I prefer it to both the current ones because they are so similar to the trope title. Thoughts?

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

Two page with unattributed quotes:

Opinion Myopia - The history goes back far enough that I was able to ask the person who added the quote. He said it was just something he'd heard from a few different people. Googling doesn't show any mentions that predate its addition the page. I don't want to label it "popular saying" because it doesn't seem to be that popular. Maybe "unknown"?

Mister Muffykins - Googling shows mentions, but no origin and the history doesn't go far back enough to let me know if those mentions predate the addition to the trope page. Again, label it "unknown"?
