This thread is for general discussion of page quotes, whether to change, move or remove them.

Hmm, that's a tough one. Normally troper-created quotes are not approved of, but that one's 1) actually kind of creative and funny and 2) is for a page that I think fits better than the usual generic trope page quote. OTOH, The Big Lebowski is a pretty legendary quote and actually does fit there quite well.

I'd slightly prefer the first one, as the second one sounds quite a bit dismissive.

It’s been pointed out by a mod in an ATT thread that the page quote for Dethroning Moment of Suck might give the impression that it’s acceptable to list entire episodes as a Dethroning Moment, when the rules forbid that.

[up]Yeah, it does give that (false) impression since it involves an episode. So, I feel it should be cut or replaced.

The quote on Gray-and-Black Morality is pretty bad; doesn’t do anything to indicate a group is at all less bad than another. A lot on the quotes page have the same problem. A couple, though, like the Deadpool one, are alright.

Megan: Wait! You're my hero!
Wade: No, no, no, no, no. That I ain't.
Wade (narrating): Nope, never will be. I'm just a bad guy who gets paid to fuck up worse guys.

[up]I feel like that could work, though the second line might be unnecessary with us just having Megan's line and Deadpool's narration.

regarding Monster.Anime And Manga [1] [2]

If we DO use the Major, isn't there a better part of his speech to pull?

How about:

"No, friends, I love war! I love holocausts. I love blitzkriegs. […] The sight of deserters being strung up from a street lamp is an irresistible pleasure. And there is nothing more arousing than the sounds made by prisoners of war dropping like flies, screaming in agony as they're mowed down by ear piercing schmeissers! When a band of pitiful resistance fighters makes their final stand with nothing but small arms, only to have their city smashed to atoms block by block by 4.8 ton bombshells... I'm in ecstasy."

I came across this page quote on a video Fix Fic page (WebVideo.Fixing RWBY); instead of explaining the fanfiction, it just attacks the official work it's about.

I am familiar with the fanfiction, so I can suggest a possible option for a replacement that gives an example of one thing the creator didn't like and how they change it.

Current page quote:

A work of blood, sweat, and tears in trying to repair a show with infinite potential left to squander in a desert of idiocy.

Suggested replacement:

First and foremost, Faunus, which in canon no-one seems to have any idea where they came from and behave in a way that's not compatible with basic biology. So, the biggest change here is establishing that humans and Faunus both directly evolved from a common ancestor and are able to interbreed.

I still need to bring up the Big Daddy quote (The Adam Sandler movie) its blatant bashing and thus needs to be either removed or changed.

[up](x5) I prefer your suggestion over the current quote.

[up][up]The current is complaining while your suggestion isn't, so I prefer the latter.

[up]I'm honestly unsure on what else to say other than I still stand by what I previously said on that quote.

[up][up] Thanks, I'll wait a bit to see if I get any other feedback on the quote option.

[up] I agree that Big Daddy quote is complaining and should be removed. I don't know the work, so I have no alternative to suggest.

I noticed Feather Flechettes lacks a quote, could this work?

"Those white feathers drain an enemy's magic power! And these red feathers, drain stamina."

There isn't an impossible dream, there are only people who give up
Wyldchyld (Old as dirt)
#10274: Jan 7th 2023 at 6:41:10 AM

The trope is about weaponising feathers to mimic bladed weapons to either perform a Flechette Storm or to slice like blades. The point of the trope is that feathers look sharp, so are treated as if they are blade-like weapons in the work.

That quote comes across more like magical draining, which is going to be a different trope.

I've noticed that a few of the quotes on Quotes.Germans Love David Hasselhoff are illustrating the trope name but not the trope itself. The trope is supposed to be when something is unpopular or obscure in its home country but massive in a foreign one.

Lúcio: Reinhardt, we need to find you some new tunes.
Reinhardt: What's wrong with the classics? I love Hasselhoff! Have you heard "Night Rocker"?!

"Who thinks David Hasselhoff is awesome? (after a German family all raise their hands in excitement) Huh. It's true."
Ted, How I Met Your Mother, "Field Trip"

"The credits roll to the Baywatch closing theme, sung by the Hoff himself, which is called "Current of Love". And I apologize in advance to all the Germans I'm about to offend, but David Hasselhoff really cannot sing. At all."
The Agony Booth, recap of Baywatch, "Mirror Mirror"

"The 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall is this weekend and to commemorate that important event in history, some evil motherfucker thought it would be a really good idea to set up this dark-sided wax siphoner of souls in front of Brandenburg Gate.
Since David Hasselhoff single-handedly brought East Berlin and West Berlin together when he performed at the Berlin Wall in 1989 while wearing a glamorous piano scarf and Lite Brite jacket, he's expected to burp out some speech (while eating a cheeseburger, I'm sure) at a peace conference in Germany on Saturday. I hope Germany's adopted golden child likes speaking to a crowd of no one ('Eh, I never notice' - The Hoff), because everyone's going to bust out of Germany as soon as they see this waxed monster in person... That thing looks like Bruce Jenner's clenched asshole."
Michael K., "The Terrifying Wax Figure Of The Hoff In Berlin"

This one I want to get rid of anyway because it's really long, barely related, and deadnames a celebrity.

"Well, David Hasselhoff is a huge star in Germany, where his series Baywatch celebrated its 100th straight week as the nation's top TV show... which once again proves my old theory: Germans love David Hasselhoff."

Should I pull them, or should I split the page into "about the trope namer/about the trope" sections?
