This thread is for general discussion of page quotes, whether to change, move or remove them.
Unused quotes should be put on a Quotes Wiki page (just replace the namespace in the URL of the wiki page you are making a quotes page for with Quotes/) or, if they don't have an article, on Quotes Looking for an Article.
Image captions are discussed elsewhere and have their own thread in the Image Pickin' forum.

Sleeps with Everyone but You is unsourced. Googling it, it may be from something by Wayne Michael Reich, but it won't let me access the page due to "privacy errors." It might just also be an old adage or something.
Shit, that's what I get for speedrunning my followed threads.
Eh, if there's a good replacement.

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.Funny enough, that was brought up just three posts before yours.
SoundCloudDo you think it should be replaced then?
The quote on A Pupil of Mine Until He Turned to Evil repeats the trope name, and both of them are from the same source as the image. How about using this for the quote?

I've wondered this: is there a general policy against (1) trope namers being the page quote, and (2) page quotes and page images being from the same source?
Edited by ShaiPa on Oct 13th 2022 at 2:55:24 PM
I approve.
(x3) I actually feel your suggestion works better than the current one, so I feel it's ok for you to replace it.
oh hey how are you doing?
Not a hard rule, but we prefer them to not be from the same source to (a) promote diversity of source exposure and (b) not make the tropes look too narrow.
This is helpful if the trope name is otherwise obtuse, eg. Hakuna Matata — the quote was initially the song as well as the image and the name, but when the image was chosen it was changed to make the scope of the trope (song about chilling out and appreciating life) clearer.
I'll swap the quote on A Pupil of Mine Until He Turned to Evil and link back here.

This is helpful — thanks!
I've seen this come up in discussion, but like you said it didn't seem it was as firm a rule as the rule against repeated page quote. I also thought about this recently b/c the quote and image for Fallen Hero are about Darth Vader. I think both work, but if I would replace one, it would be the quote.

What about this one on the Fallen Hero quotes page?
Batman: Because you were the best of us! He wanted to prove that even someone as good as you could fall.
Two-Face: And he was right.
"Not a hard rule, but we prefer them to not be from the same source to (a) promote diversity of source exposure and (b) not make the tropes look too narrow."
Ouch . I guess I made a mistake with Toggling Setpiece Puzzle, then (the image and the quote both come from Super Mario Maker 2). In my defense, it was pretty hard to find a suitable quote back in TLP, so if anyone has a better suggestion to replace the image (which would require IP) I'll be very grateful.

135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300After my post I went thru the Quotes page for Fallen Hero, and I also thought that would be the best replacement!
I vote pull and replace.
The quote for Dramatically Missing the Point relies too much on stage direction and even an embedded note. I'm not loving any of the replacements, but there are some possibilities. Honestly, I'm just going to list all of them that seem even slightly decent out of context:
Indy: What you taught me is that I was less important to you than people who've been dead for five hundred years in another country. And I learned it so well, that we've hardly spoken for twenty years.
Akane: Well, they do die at the end, but...
Ran: No, you're not getting it. It's a tragedy. Two silly kids raised by oblivious parents in a city full of stupidity. They take several rash actions on the spur of the moment, try to run away and hide from the consequences and end up killing themselves for nothing. Everyone is hurt, and everyone is to blame. That's why it's a tragedy.
Archangel Gabriel: Of course there does. Otherwise, how would we win it? [gives "duh" look]
IA Officer: Nobody wants to get this guy more than we do.
Megan: That's not the point.
To me, the last one feels like it's the most demonstrative.
We're also gonna give our to the NUMB3RS quote.
Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing.I guess the last quote should go on the main page. Regardless, I feel the current needs to go.
Another vote of approval for the NUMB3RS quote.
Any feedback on my suggestion at the top of the page?

The Revolution Will Not Be TropeableIt seems good imo, so I think it's ok to use it (assuming not enough tropers protest).
I'm not so sure about the quote for He Panned It, Now He Sucks!
Sure it's demonstrative but it's pretty crude and vulgar. Regardless, I was wondering if this quote from a video I was just watching fits in more with that trope, or Fan Community Nicknames.
If the latter, this bit can go at the end.

@Discar to the NUMB3RS quote.
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallI like that — I vote for changing it
Crown Description:
What should be the page quote for Monster.Fan Works?
I have a suggestion for Mother of a Thousand Young that I'd like confirmation is illustrative:
I can hear them shuffling out in the halls!
Little heathens, blasphemous creatures,
Nasty vermin, every single one -
They want your blood! They need to feed!
And now Mother has brought them a treat...
