This thread is for general discussion of page quotes, whether to change, move or remove them.
Unused quotes should be put on a Quotes Wiki page (just replace the namespace in the URL of the wiki page you are making a quotes page for with Quotes/) or, if they don't have an article, on Quotes Looking for an Article.
Image captions are discussed elsewhere and have their own thread in the Image Pickin' forum.

I'll propose suggesting this page quote for either UsefulNotes.General Audiences Rating or UsefulNotes.Adults Only Film Rating:
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: What is "X"?
Alex Trebek: No. (audience laughs, leading to a triple stumper) You went in the wrong direction! We were looking for a "G" rating, not an "X" rating. Remember, Kareem, this is a family show.
The quote for Nepotism is bad, only a glancing mention of Nepotism in it. I tried to change it but I'm told I have to bring it here. Here's the quote I wanted:

Works for me.
A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they will never sit in.Yes, I really like that one.
I like that quote, too.
I'm not a fan of that. It has too many issues. The one page is about the NC-17 rating, which the quote is irrelevant for (because the focus is on G and X), while the other page is for the G-rating (and how works meet that requirement despite the existence of "Avoid G-rating" tropes and recent trends to label things PG). The quote doesn't demonstrate that (it links G-rating to "family show", but the useful notes focusses on "general audiences", which isn't quite the same thing because PG-rated films can be "family show", too).
Also, the quote feels like it's missing context because it's confusing: what is a triple stumper, and why is that relevant? What's so funny about someone asking what one of the ratings mean? Why is the response acting like the question is a quiz response instead of just a clarification question before giving an answer? All those questions detract from understanding how the quote can demonstrate either page.

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading. The page quote on Suddenly Always Knew That is just Suddenly Fluent in Gibberish.
Edited by AmourLeFou on May 15th 2022 at 3:53:41 AM
Check out my forum game: Rate the above YMMV.It's not Suddenly Fluent in Gibberish because it's an actual language that he's speaking. That would be Suddenly Bilingual.
However, if you do want another quote for the page, here's an example from the same work (and character).
Garak the tailor: Perhaps I can be of service?
Dr. Bashir: You can fix computers?!
Garak: Oh, I dabble with isolinear data subprocessors. It's a hobby of mine.

Check out my forum game: Rate the above YMMV.Yep, it's even taught in universities, along with other conlangs
If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.Empathic Environment's quote is more Portent of Doom than reacting to Phineas's emotions?
Also it's on Quotes.Empathic Environment as well? So that should be removed even if it's accurate as to not duplicate?
Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576Agreed, that quote doesn't suit the trope at all. What about this?
The full quote that comes from is this, but I thought it was too long, and I wasn't sure which bit to pull out:
Garion and Belgarath, noting Durnik's increasing edginess, suggested they walk to the top of the hill to settle their suppers. They had both observed in the past that Durnik usually banished uncomfortable emotions by keeping busy.
The smith looked up at the night sky as they trudged through the snow towards the top of the hill. 'It's really a special sort of night, isn't it.' He laughed a little sheepishly. 'I suppose I'd feel that way even if it were raining,' he said.
'I know I always do,' Garion said. Then he too laughed, his breath steaming in the chill night air. 'I don't know that twice qualifies as much of an always, though,' he conceded, 'but I know what you mean. I was feeling sort of the same way myself earlier.' He looked beyond the cottage across the snowy plain lying white and still beneath the icy stars. 'Does it seem very, very quiet to you two as well?'
'There's not a hint of a breeze,' Durnik agreed, 'and the snow muffles all the sound.' He cocked his head. 'Now that you mention it, though, it does seem awfully quiet, and the stars are really bright tonight. There's a logical explanation for it, I suppose.'
Belgarath smiled at them. 'There's not a single ounce of romance in either one of you, is there? Didn't it ever occur to you that this might just be a very special night?'
Works with me.
The quote for Once Done, Never Forgotten covers only one side of the situation and can be easily confused with Noodle Incident. Any of these quotes from the quotes page would be improvements:
Harry's mother: I know, you bite one maths teacher and they never let you forget it, do they?
Mr. Potato Head: Oh, you had to bring that up!
Bart: And shot you out of a cannon.
Sideshow Bob: (bitterly) ...And shot me out of a cannon. Yes, we will never forget that, will we?
Bart: You mean up until now you did care? Then why did you wear that tutu to school last week?
Milhouse: What about all the times I didn't wear a tutu? Nobody ever brings those up!
I'm leaning a bit towards the first Simpsons quote, but I wonder if you guys prefer anything else.

I like the Toy Story one.
Sonic X has two quotes. The top one was actually added more recently, but I prefer it.

Tastes Better Than It Looks and Mess on a Plate share a page quote.
Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576Definitely fits better on Tastes Better Than It Looks. Found a couple good alternatives on the Mess on a Plate page:
It doesn't explicitly mention food, though, so it might not be perfect. There's also this one:
Schlock: And you just automatically give it to people who say 'number two'.
To Be Lawful or Good has a very long quote about the nature of Lawful Good. It was changed a few months back from this:
Ichigo: Sorry. I still don't get it. If... if I were in your shoes, I'd fight the law!
I never loved it, but it's not terrible, and it's certainly shorter. There are plenty of good ones on the quotes page. I think this is my favorite:
Yeah, there's a bit of Fan Myopia to the Bleach example — it's more ZCE to people who don't know the work than fans probably realise.
I don't like the Captain America option. A quote that describes a man who's admitting he's not even sure what "good" is, muddies the demonstration of the trope. By itself, the quote makes it sound like he's not doing either.
Looking at the quotes page, the most straight-forward and demonstrative examples I can see are these two (I prefer the second):
Tracer: That's a difficult question, Orisa. I think there are some times when you need to do what's right.

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.Unstoppable Force Meets Immovable Object and Incorruptible Pure Pureness have the same quote from The Dark Knight.
For the latter, I think this would be a good replacement;
Doesn't Luke fall to the Dark Side sometimes, however? Wouldn't that mean he's not eligible for the trope?
If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.Single quote, no Kimono. Does it fit any trope at all?
Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576I guess if the speaker were older it might be Dirty Old Man but hell I don't know. It just seems grody.
I know what it's referring to (the "girls" concerned would indeed be wearing kimono)... but the quote itself is not the trope, especially since its focus is on what the girls are doing and not what they're wearing. I'd remove it; it's in bad taste and it's not the trope.

What should be the page quote for Monster.Fan Works?
Fur Is Clothing has the same quote as Body Pocket. I feel like the quote fits the latter one more.
