General Page Quote Discussion:

This thread is for general discussion of page quotes, whether to change, move or remove them.

Unused quotes should be put on a Quotes Wiki page (just replace the namespace in the URL of the wiki page you are making a quotes page for with Quotes/).

Image captions are discussed elsewhere and have their own thread in the Image Pickin' forum.

I also support removing Pro-Human Transhuman. It doesn't work without the spoilered part, and it goes against our no spoilers above the examples section policy.

Might Makes Right has two page quotes; they both seem pretty similar, so dropping either would work. I'm in favour of keeping the one by the Greek philosopher, though.

They are almost equal. I'd prefer Nr. 1 as it has less sidematerial.

I think the first one is a bit more direct and all-inclusive.

I've cut the Pro-Human Transhuman quote.

edit: Might Makes Right was done (by Whitecroc).

Just a reminder to people: if a quote being removed from the main page was not voted as irrelevant or otherwise bad, it should be moved to the quotes page, not cut altogether.

Right, sorry. Still kinda new to the intricacies around here.

[up][up] Oh, sorry, I do that, but here I misunderstood. I thought the consensus was to cut it and remove it. I promise to be more careful.

[up] I was actually referring to Whitecroc, as well as anyone else who might forget (that wasn't the first time I'd had to add a quote that was removed from the main page to the quotes page). I would think spoilers would fall under "bad" and thus not be moved to the quotes page; what do others think?

May Contain Evil has two quotes. I think the first one is a bit clearer, but they are rather similar.

I kinda like the second.

The first quote doesn't look germane - I support th second.

I think they're both good, but I lean slightly towards the second.

I moved the Ineffectual Sympathetic Villain quote, and I guess if someone comes up with a better quote then they can just add it or whatever.

I've moved the first one on May Contain Evil to q-tab.

@Nocturna: I agree with you, of course. The additional quote(s) should be moved to the tab if it's relevant. Only very bad quotes deserve to get burnt.

Cheating with the Milkman has two. I lean towards the second.

edit: Moved the first one.

Second. I am not clear on the logic of the first.

Path of Most Resistance is a video game trope that says the best rewards come from taking the hardest path.

The quote is a webcomic quote about a military saying that an apparently easy path is probably a trap, which seems like an entirely unrelated trope, other than the fact the name could fit it. There's a line at the end shoehorned in that says it's a real life idea, but that line has nothing to do with any of the examples or the rest of the description.

Can we just cut the webcomic quote (and the one line at the end that tries to justify it)?

I get the logic of the first quote in Cheating with the Milkman (If he's dad's sterile, he must be the milkman's kid), but I like the second one better.

Short Cuts Make Long Delays has two page quotes. I'm not really partial to either of them, since the former is vague and the latter isn't very descriptive unless you know what the Carpathian Mountains are. What do you think?

SeptimusHeap from Switzerland (Edited uphill both ways) Relationship Status: Mu
#899: May 2nd 2013 at 11:10:08 AM

I prefer the second one. There is a pothole and I don't think that a lot people won't make the association "dracula = bad".

I think that the second is self-explanatory enough. Even if you don't know what the Carpathian Mountains are, it stands to reason that, well, very few shortcuts home will be through a mountain range.

... that said, the first is better because it implies that the shortcut was a disaster, not making it seem like the shortcut just... wasn't that short.
