Would this work as a quote for Melancholy Musical Number?

The Pearl here has exhibited an aptitude for engineering that I begrudgingly respect, though that doesn't explain the spontaneous singing, crying, singing while crying.

[up]The quote itself is fine, but please don't pothole the work title to a character's name.

I don't understand the quote, sorry.

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.

[up] The trope is people being sad and singing because of it. The quote is Peridot lampshading Pearl being emotional and frequently breaking into song about her feelings.

My point is that I really didn't get that from the quote until the context was explained to me. I therefore don't think the quote makes much sense to someone who doesn't know the work (so cannot fill in the context gaps without asking someone who does know the work).

For example, the quote begins with 'The Pearl' and that makes it sound like an object, not a person. Until you explained that Pearl was a person, I didn't even get that much from the quote. The reference to the crying and singing at the end of the quote is not linked back to the (person) Pearl at the beginning of the quote a way that is obviously the trope; it's not clear that Pearl is singing about her feelings. All it says is that she's crying and singing at the same time — and that's not automatically a case of singing about feelings.

Shovelware has a pretty negative quote. Not sure if it accurately gets across what Shovelware is, either, just that "it bad".

Gameplay Ally Immortality and After-Combat Recovery have the same quote.

Which does it fit best? Any other suggestion?

I don't like it for either of them, but it's marginally better for Gameplay Ally Immortality.

The quote for Clone Degeneration is about clones of clones coming out wrong, not about clones eventually decaying. The quotes in the quotes tab have the same problem.

I have a quote suggestion for The Dreaded

Kei: Hey... uh... Elsa. The things I do... do they ever, you know, scare you?
Elsa: I've been trained to hunt monsters since I was younger than you. I was slaying Gibborim Murauders when I was barely out of swaddling clothes. I've looked into the multi-faceted eyes of things man was not meant to understand and lived to tell the tale. So... believe me when I tell you... yes those abilities of yours terrify me.
Kei: I kinda thought so. Me too.

[up] That doesn't seem like an example of The Dreaded, and that page already has a quote anyway.

[up]I mean I wanted to change the quote to that. And it fits because this is a conversation between a kid who can create monsters by drawing and a vampire hunter who outright admits that out of all the monsters she hunts on an everyday bases his powers scare her.

[up][up]It's also unnecessarily long and doesn't hit the point as directly as the current quote.

Speaking of excessively meandering page quotes, the one in Bait the Dog is a borderline Wall of Text. The Metal Gear Solid quote in the subpage is much more concise.

Alright, I've switched the quote in Bait the Dog.

Now, the page quote in Cold Iron doesn't really say anything about iron being portrayed as something that supernatural creatures are weak to. Any other alternatives, or should it just be removed?

If it doesn't fit Cold Iron, then the Literature example needs to be removed as well.

The quote on Win Back the Crowd is heavily dependent on potholes; obviously it has to go, but for what?

There's this from the Quotes tab:

"They [Toho] feel we've stayed true to their roots. In the encyclopedias and books you read about Godzilla, there's these different groups - all of the Godzillas in one section and then there's the American film. I'd love ours to be considered as part of the Toho group."

So quotes for works are supposed to be taken from the works themselves, not quotes taken from critics about the work. Because Black Hat has the following page quote:

"Blackhat was like reading my own slash fiction: it's basically Michael Mann making out with Ghost in the Shell for two hours."
Robbie Collin's thoughts on the movie as chief film critic for The Telegraph in his Twitter post.

On a similar note Paint Your Wagon also has this complainy page quote:

"That year, we released Medium Cool, which was aimed at the so-called "youth market", and Paint Your Wagon, a film aimed at... nobody."
Robert Evans, The Kid Stays In the Picture

Wyldchyld (Old as dirt)
#5374: Apr 28th 2019 at 4:22:11 AM

Also, the Black Hat quote requires you to be familiar with Ghost in the Shell for it to make sense. Quotes should never force the reader to understand multiple different works just to understand what the quote means.

Why not use one of the quotes from the trailers?

Hathaway: "You have any idea how much progress you're gonna make on a strike this complex without someone like me? Zero."
Frank: "This isn't a negotiation."
Hathaway: "Well, I just made it one."

[up][up]At the time that Paint Your Wagon came out, Robert Evans was head of production at Paramount. The complaining in that quote is about his own past judgement.
