This thread is for general discussion of page quotes, whether to change, move or remove them.

Unused quotes should be put on a Quotes Wiki page (just replace the namespace in the URL of the wiki page you are making a quotes page for with Quotes/) or, if they don't have an article, on Quotes Looking For An Article.

Image captions are discussed elsewhere and have their own thread in the Image Pickin' forum.

[up] Either of those is an improvement. I prefer the first one, I think it flows better.

That's the exact quote on the main Title Drop page, though. Shouldn't they be using different quotes?

On the basis that Doctor Who is the main page quote, I am against any use of Doctor Who for the live-action subpage. The next quote on the page is from The Weakest Link, and that works for me: — "You are The Weakest Link. Goodbye." — Host

[up][up] Whoops, that's my bad. I thought we were discussing the main page quote, so when I saw enough people liked the Doctor Who one, I changed it over. This was the original:

Michael: Your average American male is stuck in a perpetual state of adolescence, you know, arrested development.
Narrator: Hey! That's the name of the show!

Should I change it back?

Since nobody was actually discussing changing that one, I would imagine yes.

Someone changed the quote on Humans Are the Real Monsters. Not only is the new one "anonymous" (which usually means the troper just made it up), it's a bit... overly intelligent, if that makes sense. Like it's trying too hard. We've got a long quotes page to choose from, surely we can find something better.

Previous:

''"Sooner or later, humans will kill off all Aen Seidhe, all dwarves and all gnomes. Then they'll start murdering each other. Your kind knows no other way, it's in your genes. You'll keep killing each other until only one remains: the strongest among you. A thousand years from now, a dim-witted human barbarian will climb to the top of a pile of bones, sit down and proclaim: 'I win!'"

Current:

"Knowledge is knowing that Frankenstein is not the monster. Wisdom is understanding that Frankenstein is the monster."
Anonymous

Other options from the quotes page:

"We're going to recapture my creatures before they get hurt. They are currently in alien terrain, surrounded by millions of the most vicious creatures on the planet: humans."

"I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species; I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply. And multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. And the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You're a plague. And we are the cure."
Agent Smith, The Matrix

I prefer the Newt one. Other thoughts?

The quotation seems to come from Extra Credits. I don't have the time to go down the rabbit hole here, but I just watched the "radical isolation" video and that's not the origin. Maybe by "anonymous" the person meant that they didn't want to do the grunt work. I definitely don't want to do the work for them, though, so I'd rather vote for Newt Scamander's quote as it's shorter than the previous and does a good job imo.

If we're talking quotes, may I suggest this quote, which by happenstance comes from the exact same episode of the same show as my previous suggestion in this thread:

Doctor: I gave them the wrong warning. I should have told them to run, as fast as they can, run and hide, because the monsters are coming: the human race.

The page quote for What Do You Mean, It's for Kids? was added by frequent ban-evader Johnnyfog, any suggestion as to which quote from the quote page would work as a substitute?

RK_Striker_JK_5: I think I forgot how effed up Sailor Moon could really get...
ANT Pogo: Yeah. "Cute show for little girls about a sailor-suited pretty soldier of love and justice who in reality is a ditzy middle-schooler and OH GOD OH FUCK WHAT WAS THAT WHAT DID I JUST SEE OH GOD!"

AUDIENCE: We did not think we were bringing our kids to a movie whereโ€ฆ Clockwork Orange typesโ€ฆ ran after girls in their underwear through forests. That was not something we thought.

"Come to think of it, I just realized you're playing an NES game... where you shoot your wife. I can't see that going over well with parents: 'Hey, son, what are you playing?' 'I'm playing Nintendo!' 'Oh, that's nice.' 'Yeah, I just shot my wife!'"
The Angry Video Game Nerd on the NES adaptation of Total Recall (1990)

Any of these would probably do.

Troper Italian Republic made a unilateral quote change on It Makes Sense in Context. The original quote:

"I want a rematch once I get my boobs back."
Nanase, El Goonish Shive

This was changed to:

"It's Over Anakin, I have the High Ground!"
Obi-Wan Kenobi, Revenge of the Sith

The troper in question ignored a note requesting no changes without consulting this thread.

But, more to the point, I think that the change was a clear step down. What does anyone else think?

Bigotry will NEVER be welcome on TV Tropes.

Yeah it's clearly much less evocative of a bizarre situation that would make no sense to people who stumble across it removed from its source material than the replaced quote.

It feels like shoving in a Star Wars meme for the sake of having a Star Wars meme somewhere.

[up]Found this quote on the Yakuza wiki:

"I can take another name, and build a new life... But on the inside I'll always have that instinct, no matter how much I hate it. I'm yakuza through and through. Guile only gets you so far in this game Remember that. You won't get another chance."

That Sailor Moon related quote for What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?.

I don't think it fits, because it's not saying what's the surprising bit. Fits Noodle Incident more, or something else about lack of context...

Stock Episode Titles:

"'Demons, Demons, Demons.' Wow. They put a lot of thought into that title."
Cordelia Chase, Angel

Not about a stock title, but a repetitive one. Would fit "Double, Double" Title a lot better?
