It's not a disguise if you never change back. A lot of people, most people I think, would choose to look different than they do if they had the choice.
Fight. Struggle. Endure. Suffer. LIVE.I'm getting close to finishing the first book. It's been interesting.

Agreed. I've said this before, but Calderon is definitely the weak point of the series, and feels somewhat weird next to the later books, though it's hard to put my finger on what, exactly. Part of it's probably that bound furies feel a lot more independent- in later books they come off as more extensions of their masters, but in Calderon Brutus, for example, is clearly capable of exerting himself independently of Bernard and there are other small examples of things like that. Academ's Fury is a noticeable improvement in particular, the introduction of the Canim, the Vord (properly) and Kalarus makes the Myth Arc a lot more complicated than the straightforward "Gaius vs. Acquitaine" we get in book one, and then Cursor's Fury is another step up, with that level of general quality maintained for the rest of the run.
-resists spoilers, despite the fact I've been spoiled on most everything-
Finished it. I wish had the second book. Might have to make a trip to the bookstore tomorrow.

"By the Decree of Tavarus Magnus, First Lord of Alera: All Marat who have not yet bonded have to keep a one mile radius from any Taurga, for the general safety and sanity of all of Carna."
"You know, Calderon, we could always shove all those Marat who ignore that to Carnea."
"Shut up, Max. Even the Vord do not deserve that."
"You can reply to this Message!"
That assumes a Marat survives getting close to a tavar. Remember that those little Killer Rabbits kill CANIM

You win.
Is it just me or did anyone else think that the description of the tavar sounded a little like a wolverine?

Fate Grand Order players will know me as Ryusei-Go.Really? I thought that they were supposed to be descended from prehistoric animals like the grass lions. Also I'm kind of sad that we probably wont get to see a Marat tavar tribe anytime soon. If those bastards are as dangerous as they said there's no way the Canim would have been able to bring any over on the ice ships. On the plus side, they're probably giving the last vord queen no end of frustration.
Unless- a few hundred years down the line, when the alliance comes back to Canea to fight the vord, instead of warrior forms, they end up facing tavar forms?

A question that came to me last night: Isana was angsting in the first book about her appearance, so why has she never bothered to just shapeshift herself? As far as I recall she never shapeshifts in the entire series (other than making her fingers into claws), but at the same time she's probably the single most powerful Watercrafter in Alera. Did she never learn how to change her appearance?
