The Continent of Quietus was a neutral land. No Crystal to house, and no kingdoms that ruled the land. Situated between the other four continents, it had eventually come to be a place of meeting between the four major kingdoms. A place for non-aggressive negotiations, a place to foster inter-continental relationships not just between the leaders, but also its people.

A festival was under way, held every five years. With a grand tournament for the warriors of the four lands, markets for those looking for exotic items, and game booths for the kids, there's something for just about everyone.

Around the island were several ships, each carrying passengers from their respective lands. The main exception being a ship that was floating lazily in the sky, anchored to the ground. The only one of its kind, the Airship was, obviously, the main mode of transport for those of the floating continent.

With several soldiers from each kingdom patrolling the land, keeping any possible monster attacks at bay, as well as criminals hoping to take advantage of the festivities or gathering of the leaders, the people here could rest assured that they were safe.

Same couldn't be said for those of the Flamma Continent, though.

"The beginning of the Quarter Finals is finally here!" An announcer roared as several hundred cheers erupted from the crowd. In the centre of the arena, two figures approached each other. One of them a lightly armoured man with a dragon-shaped helmet and spear in hand. Erik Lennard smiled at his opponent, glad that all the under-experienced fighters should be out of the way by now.

"As you all know, lethal force is prohibited!" The announcer reminded everybody over the din of their cheers. "A winner will be decided if a warrior forfeit's, loses his weapon, or is too tired to continue!"

While a fight in the arena was about to commence, outside said arena was a girl dressed in red, cape and white hair flowing in the soft breeze as she smiled in anticipation. This kind of fun was something you simply couldn't get back home, where the king thought it was a good idea to make every able boy or girl pursue some form of combat training. Blegh.

But this...

Holding the weird projectile shooting mechanism dealy awkwardly, Rika Kingsman pulled the trigger, and the rubber projectile struck the wall - far from its intended target - and bounced towards the ground, trapped by the stall.

The attendant smiled in amusement. "Bad luck, girl. Twenty gil for another try?"

"Meh," Rika put the weird weapon down. "Not made of gil, and mother won't lend me more today..."

Well, that was a shame, the Red Mage thought. Whatever that thing was - a condensed cannon-like weapon? - it was a waste of money, like a lot of the 'games' here, she thought. She would have given the arena a try, but children aren't allowed, for some stupid reason!

Nezumi shuffled from stall to stall, his stubby paws slipping into his pockets. The festival would've been an excellent place to ply his trade... but he wasn't in the mood for it right now. People were here to have fun, after all, and who was he to ruin it for them?

He decided not to waste his money on the stalls, heading instead towards the arena. Things were really heating up over there, judging from the roar of the crowd.

Ah, the games of Quietus. Nox Ater had fond memories of going here three previous times with his family, dreaming of joining the glory of the arena fights occurring below him. As he grew as a Black Mage, his dream of fighting in the Arena where he could prove himself to the whole world came closer to fruition until today. Now at 26 years old and a skilled Black Mage, Nox was ready to face his opponent.

As the Knight smiled at him in good sportsmanship, Nox gave a polite nod and a small smile. Then he stood with spells and knives hidden in his robe, ready to begin the battle.

Gamma was silent as he headed to the arena. Everything about him said "Black Belt" to those around him, and despite his intimidating appearance, he wasn't here to start a fight. He was here to enter one.

He noted that there was already a fight about to begin, so he waited for a chance to fight.

A short figure practically ran through the festival grounds. His attire gave the impression that its owner didn't quite know how to say "no" to a decoration. Small multicolored tassles streamed from the sleeves of his shirt, his left arm had all manner of bracelets and rings on it, and he wore a mask with a grinning face brightly painted on it. To all the world, Jacob Arren appeared to be some sort of dancer or street performer. However, the astute would notice that the bell he carried with him was a Geomantic focus.

The man bounded from stall to stall, occasionally spending a few gil to try a game, or buy some food. Whenever he ate, he pulled off his mask, and it was clear that he was not an adolescent Hume, but a fairly developed Gnome.

The man's path eventually took him to the Arena, where a fight was already beginning.

"AHAHAHAHAHA!" a mad laugh ripped through the air, a man in a lab-coat stood there with a smile on his face. "Feast your eyes on THIS!" he lifted his hand, a potion in hand. "I've done it, YES, YES!" he laughed and laughed, swinging the beaker around as if it was nothing. The liquid spilled from the top and fell onto the ground, literally causing the grass to melt. "Oh, well, that could be messy..." he carefully placed the lid back onto the beaker and gathered himself, "Hmm... perhaps the world isn't ready for such science." the man muttered, looking to the arena.

Nemo quietly entered to watch the arena fight. He didn't feel like entering it, and he doubted he'd feel the euphoria he usually felt in a battle where it wasn't self-defense. Waiting for it to start, he took to watching the other viewers until it did.

Erik seemed to study his opponent closely in the seconds before the match commenced. The lack of weapons and any real build suggested Mage, most likely of the black line of spells. To get this far, he probably knew at least one spell of every element. Erik would need to be careful with his jumps, lest this mage have the power to blow him over the arena walls.
"Begin!" The announcer roared, and Erik charged forward, spear held aloft. He would have to try and avoid any spells until he got within striking range.

Rika passed by some weird guy throwing a beaker around, and leaped away to avoid getting splashed. Once sure she wasn't in danger of melting, Rika glared at the weirdo from under the brim of her hat. "Watch it! I don't my cape ruined!" The young mage warned, trying to look intimidating by showing her sheathed short sword at her hip. With a 'hmph' sound, Rika turned to leave, ready to continue exploring the place.

At a nearby stable.

"C'mon Boko! The quarterfinals are starting!"

"Kweh!"

"I know our match isn't up yet! We should still check out the competition!"

"Kweh!"

"I already gave you some greens! Argh!"

A sad sight that continued for a while.

Gamma searched for an opponent in the arena. The Geomancer seemed as though he were trying to obscure his own vision with his outfit, so the Black Belt decided not to challenge him.

Mogmeris humphed his massive blade around, past stalls. He was in a bad mood, he lost one of the stall games, and felt like taking it out on someone. He caught sight of the arena, and the two fighting. "Perfect, Kupo!" He begin to bounce over, a mix of walking and trying to float. Then he noticed another man watching, he was clearly waiting. He sized him up, he was clearly a black belt, an intresting challenge. "Excuse me, kupo. would you like to be my opponent? Kupo!" He asked politley, but with a clear excitement in his voice.

Nox stared at the man before him, trying to figure out what he could before the announcer started the battle.

Dragon helmet, wields a spear. He thought. He's obviously a dragoon; I shouldn't let him jump too high or get too close to me, then I'll be done for. I'll just-

"Begin!" The announcer yelled. The dragoon charged at Nox immediately afterwards with his spear pointed at him.

Crap! Gotta act fast! Moving quickly Nox pulled out three of his knives into his left hand and threw them directly at his opponent. Seconds afterward as the knives were seconds from striking the dragoon, Nox shot his right hand higher than his left, stepping forward while casting a fireball into the airspace forward and above where the dragoon was. The result was a simple, but thought-out, on-the-fly gambit that Nox instinctively concocted in case he had to fight one.

If the dragoon jumped to avoid the knives as Nox predicted he should, then he would be knocked down by the fireball that Nox had cast too soon for him to react against, which would allow Nox to freely cast more spells until the jumping spearman was too tired and knocked down to continue. A perfect plan in Nox's opinion.

Jacob whirled to look at the ensuing battle, bracelets jangling with each motion. He watched the fight with an excited grin on his face as a leyline of Fire flared in response to a spell being prepared.

"They're so much clearer around here!" He gasped to nobody in particular. In Solum, the power of Earth was so strong that leylines of the other elements seemed muddied and dim in comparison.

Mogmeris turned to the blackbelt. "Im a beserker, why do you ask, Kupo?" He said. He pulled a string on his backpack, and his blade fell to the ground with an almighty thud.

He started to rise up a little, and was hovering at head height for the man. The blade sticking out the ground.

Meanwhile, outside the arena, a figure in red armor stood in the shadows carrying a few hundred gil. When Rika passed by, she would feel a sudden weight in her pocket, but if she turned to look, there would be no one there.

What she wouldn't know was that this figure was a Thief by the name of Pantera, who had come here looking for corrupt merchants to steal from. He had found a few, for he knew where to look, and the gains he had made were many. Unlike other thieves, however, Pantera was not one to keep everything to himself. He often gave his gil out to random people in the street with no cash on them, as Rika had been a moment ago.

In the meantime, Pantera cut through the arena, emerging in the middle of the crowd to watch the tournament.

Nezumi saw the man's surreptitious actions: it took one to know one, after all. He sidled up nonchalantly to the human, remarking casually, "Mighty generous of you, friend. What brings you here?"

Erik would have jumped over the knives, but with the risk of Aero spells or something else clipping his wings, so to speak, the dragoon instead opted for a roll to the side. It turned out to be the right choice, since the mage had launched a fireball into the air. That would have been dangerous, but perhaps it meant his repertoire of spells was more limited than he had suspected?

As a Dragoon, Erik had only one real trump card, and thus, would be expected by any smart opponent. The black mage, meanwhile, had a potential list of skills to utilise. Unless Erik could turn this into a close-quarters fight, he was at a disadvantage.

With the roll finished, Erik lunged forward again, spear flipped so Erik would trike with the blade-less end.

Not too long after Rika marched off, she felt something weigh her pocket down. Confused, Rika glanced around before checking what she gained. Her eyes widened at the sight of gil.
''What the? Where'd this... who?"

Rika glanced around, looking a tad more nervous this time. Why would someone dump a load of gil into her pocket? And how did they disappear so fast? What if this person was simply hiding their money to evade the soldiers pursuing them? What if she were seen as an accomplice?

No, that's stupid. Rika told herself. She'd just have to figure out who gave her the money and return it. She wasn't a fan of taking money from strangers...

Ming stood beside the corner of the stage, hidden under the shade, away from the cheering crowd. Quietly, she observed the ongoing match through her hazel eyes.

Too many humans made her feel uncomfortable, but she was still a little curious about their lives.

"Aha! So it was Fire!"

Jacob could not help himself from these little excited outbursts. Magic was in the air, and he'd never been able to see things as clearly as he was now. Air especially. There was no wind magic being used, thus far, but compared to the skies above Solum, the lines of Air practically seemed to sing with power.

Nox formed another plan as soon as Erik charged at him again. Using Wind magic to propel himself upward, Nox launched six more throwing knives at his opponent, three at his front and three more above him. None of the knives were intended to strike Erik, only to force him stop as Nox prepared his real attack.

As soon as his body had flown over the Dragoon, he quickly made a clawed gesture in his hand to hold in the Lighting magic for his Thundara spell which was the true blow he intended to deal out.

Using Wind magic again to soften his landing as he landed only a feet behind Erik, he spun towards his opponent, energy crackling in his outstretched left hand as he launched his spell nearly point-blank at the Dragoon. This oughta keep him down for a while, Nox thought. If it doesn't, then I'm done for when he opts for melee.
