Senki Zesshou Symphogear

I didn't like G because I got really sick of the antagonists failing pathetically at everything they did. And also Dr. Ver suuuuuuuuucks. The only time he was interesting in G was that one moment where he showed genuine scientific curiosity about Fine's soul reincarnation. Everything he did after that point just dragged the show down so much. (I liked him in GX though, because him bouncing off Carol was fun)

Best part of G was the Mikugear stuff, that ruled.

I consider GX the part when the show gets unironically good. It's still trashy but it's when it started getting really good at being hype as hell.

Adam had a fantastic final fight but I don't like the weird pedophile vibes with him and Tiki.

Also, despite Adam being great, nothing he did could match the sheer Holy Shit Quotient of the final battle against Carol (starting from the moment she first reveals her ability to sing).

Eh, Adam's clearly using Tiki (who's more like a lovestruck teen than anything... so I'd say pedophile vibes are overdoing it) and obviously not meant to be a good thing. When the definitely evil creepy villain is being creepy, I'd say that's a job well done.

Bonus points though for not giving the enemy a way to go X-Drive. Also Testament, as an attack, was way better than Glorious Break in my opinion.

Though speaking of X-Drive... what the hell was up with Crunchyroll's subs? Missing that the last line of the 12th episode was a reference to the first tagline for one. And calling it Ex-Drive... when the mobile game is X-Drive Unlimited.

Crunchyroll was rushed for time because they had to sub the songs. I guess it finally got to them by the end.

If the series ever gets a dub (preferrably with the songs undubbed, which has been done in anime dubs in the past) I bet anyone who subs it will have more time to do so better.

I read an interesting interpretation once. The GX Zesshoushinais establish that the Auto-Scorers are made from facets of Carol's own personality (which is used to joke that Carol secretly wants to do stuff like pose dramatically).

Tiki is also an Auto-Scorer, who was presumably made by Adam. The fact that Tiki is so incredibly in love with Adam, therefore, is a reflection of Adam's extreme narcissism.

After watching the final episode I must say that, while the final fight could probably have been a bit better the last song more than made up for it and I totally didn't cry when everyone's ghosts turned up.

My ranking is XV=TOS=AXZ > G > GX.

Mainly because the middle bits of GX are a bit of a mess chracter arc wise for the original trio.

I actually used to like GX more than G, but I changed my mind when I rewatched the series before XV came out.

The problem with G is that for it to be cohesive you need to excise about half of it. GX got predictable and same-y (though the father focus it introduced did pay off for XV) but at least it avoided the problem of "you're introducing stuff just to un-introduce it and having random completely pointless terrorism."

I'm really satisfied at how Symphogear went overall. One of my favorite series, no doubt about it. I would just like to ask - do we get to see what happened to old man Fudou?

Probably the same thing as Ver: imprisoned never to be seen again, let alone remembered as the protector he saw himself as. Plus given his influence even by that point trying to prosecute him would probably be a mess if you can even get it done before he dies of old age—guy was over 100 at this stage. Probably still execution-proof, too.

So he's basically going to die a bitter, lonely, hate-filled old man, despised by everyone, who blames everyone but himself for how he ended up.

I'm more than satisfied with that.

Does anyone know if or when the XV soundtrack will be released? I looked where I usually get my soundtracks but could only find the Character Songs and I would really like to get a copy of the final song.

They release with each BD. The first one releases tomorrow in japan (Later today in the US)

Yeah, we're in the same boat as with Shitou Ewigkeit: getting the individual version of the final song is going to need to wait until the last bluray release some time in March.

That's a bit of a pain, I'll have to make a reminder. Thanks anyway.

At least there's a lot of group songs to come in piece by piece again.

And don't forget the OV As!

Those should be great this time around. I think the Maria and Tsubasa ones with be fantastic this season.

Plus given the track record with them being gayer than the main series I hope for a slightly more confirmed confession in the final one. See Miku reacting to the "I love you" lyric in Waikyō Shénshòujìng, Miku's beach Thirst, Kirika's letter to Shirabe and Miku worrying about Hibiki cheating on her with Chris.

An interesting trivia bit pointed out on another board.

METANOIA, (almost) backwards becomes the Japanese phrase ai no tame which translates as "For the sake of Love", thus being incredibly on-point for that hug attack

Actually, it's not almost backwards. Take the characters and split them into kana and you get me-ta-no-i-a (メタノイア), which reverses exactly into ai no tame. "For love". And Japan loves its wordplay, so having the literal meaning (spiritual conversion by penitence) being applicable as well as the reverse...

Me too. But I made sure to order some merch for this one before it was all gone.

Preliminary numbers for XV 1 so far.

Could be higher by the end of the week.

Basically for reference:

S1 V1: 3,631 units

G V1 - 9,829 units

GX V1 - 15,821 units

AXZ V1 - 16,233 units

XV V1 - 26,420 units

a full 10,000 unit increase, and this is from one day of sales compared to the other's full week!

What makes it even more impressive is that unlike the past few seasons, the first XV bluray does not contain raffle tickets for trying to get concert tickets.

Hmm, I wonder how they'll promote Symphogear Live 2020 then. They did say that it would be thing prior to the seasons airing, I think.

This bodes well for more Symphogear related content.

The creative team said they're done with Symphogear and want to do something else. This bodes well for their next project, though.
