Background Info

Gaia, a fantasy world in which magic is abound, monsters roam the plains, caves, meadows and abandoned castles, and world-shattering events happen every thousand or so years like semi-regular clockwork.

In the world of Gaia, 4 Crystals control the aspects of life: Fire, Water, Air and Earth. Each Crystal resides on a separate continent:

  • The Fire Crystal of the Flamma continent, known for its volcanic climate, and the Gulg Volcano. The city of Hibana is the main power here, with its King being known for his tight-fisted rule.

  • The Water Crystal, located in an underwater ruin within the Amnis Continent. The Town of Minato functions as the largest port town and the kingdom's hub, where the Queen resides.

  • the Air Crystal can be found on the floating continent of Divum, where the Avian-Humes generally reside. Due to its small stature, there's only one city to be found - Sobieru. Due to the ill health of the king, the winged prince is currently in charge, though he doesn't seem to good at it.

  • Finally, the Earth Crystal is found in Solum, the kingdom here being Rikuchi. Due to its mountainous terrain, the gnomic people generally live underground, or in remote areas. The Gnomish King and Queen rule the land here.

  • Another continent of note is Quietus, a land situated between the other four (well, three if a floating continent isn't counted...). Due to certain hostilities that sometimes flare between kingdoms for various reasons, this land is used as a place for non-hostile negotiation, or inter-continental contests held once every five years.

It is during such a contest where our tale begins...

Story Information

In the midst of a grand festival shared between the four nations, dark clouds gather on the horizon. Unnoticed by many, and dismissed as mere bad weather or storm at worst by the rest, these clouds spread silently over the Flamma Continent. Those who remain on the continent will find not a storm washing over their volcanic region, but a swarm of monsters attacking the villages, towns and cities.

Meanwhile, the Fire Crystal's brilliant light dims...

So, Final Fantasy Role Play! The setting will be similar to I-VI and IX, and will use 'jobs' or 'classes', each one associated with a certain crystal.

Fire: Warrior, Black Belt, Red Mage, Cannoneer

Water: White Mage, Bard, Dancer, Evoker

Air: Dragoon, Black Mage, Thief, Archer

Earth: Green Mage, Geomancer, Chemist, Berserker

These are the 'basic' jobs. After certain storyline events, it's possible for someone to gain an increase in power, thus upgrading their 'job' to, say a Knight, [Colour] Wizard or Alchemist!

The story will start during the festival/tournament at Quietus, introducing initial characters and so on. After which, we'll need to go deal with that pesky cloud and see what's up with the Crystals, and perhaps see if there's some evil guy doing all this bad stuff.

Several races inhabit Gaia, as well. Role call:

Humans - They're humans. Generally, they live all over the place. A rare sub-species exist, referred to as 'Demi-Humes', which are basically humans with animal features. Aside from the occasional bigots, there's no horrible racism problems for these guys.

Gnomes - Diminutive creatures with faces forever hidden by visors or masks, these guys mainly inhabit Solum.

Moogles - Cutest guys ever, as many would agree. Probably. Anyway, these critters are also small, possess bat-like wings, a pom-pom that hangs from their head, and finally, have a distinctive vervbal tic. KUPO! You'll mostly find them in Divum.

  • Class:
  • Appearance:

Basic Job Descriptions

For those unfamiliar with what each class can do.

Warrior: Generally, these guys are swordsmen, and damn fine ones too. People who become warriors are either those who had no other skills of note, or found the whole 'hack 'n slash' prospect appealing. Since they also gnerally wear armour, they can be pretty good meat shields against most opponents. Upgrades to 'Knight', who have access to white magic

Black Belt: People who, through incredibly intensive training, can punch hard enough to shatter rock... well, sometimes. Masters of hand-to-hand combat, they can show you why it's a bad idea to bring a sword to a fist fight. Upgrades to 'Master', who truly can shatter rocks with their punches, or however else they decide to apply that super-human strength

Red Mage: Gifted with knowledge of more than one school of magic, the Red Mage is the 'jack of all trades'. Capable of casting black and white magic, as well as knowing how to swing a sword, the only thing more impressive than these feats is a Red Mage's seemingly innate ability to find the nicest of hats to wear. Upgrade to Red Wizard, who can learn all but the greatest of white and black magic... and wear nicer hats than before.

Cannoneer: Specialising in using newly developed, long-ranged weaponry, Cannoneers load up their cannons... and shoot things. Whether it's gunpowder or rocks, whatever they shoot are sure to hurt like hell. Upgrade to Bombadiers, capable of priming their cannons to inflict debilitating status effects.

White Mage: Gifted Healers who specialise in the use of White Magic, White Mage's are practically treasured for their abilities. Sure, they can't exactly revive the dead, but they're invaluable in situations where hurting the dead becomes a necessity. Upgrade to White Wizard, who gain access to stronger healing spells, as well as the legendary 'Holy' spell... however it's obtained.

Bard: Different from the norm, these Bards are capable of using their music to hurt foes or heal friends. Sure, you won't be known for your combat prowess, but at least your music will bring joy to others and somehow blind criminals. Upgrade to Maestro, who can use sound itself to slap things around, as well as normal, Bard-related things.

Dancer: Similar to Bards, these Dancers aren't quite the norm. Using their graceful movements, they can allure enemies into a state of non-hostility, or even attack their own allies. They also go well with Bard's. Upgrade to Waltzer, those who dance so brilliantly, it can actually hurt enemies physically and mentally (MP damage, basically).

Evoker: Summoners of today. Unlike those from the past, capable of calling the likes of Ifrit and Shiva, Evokers are limited to creatures such as Goblins, Bombs and Chocobos. The monsters they call may be a tad on the weak side, but they may have uses other than combat! Upgrade to Summoner, who actually can summon our classic summons.

Dragoon: Knights who specialise in the use of A) Spears and B) Jumping. Really high. Like, stratosphere kind of heights at their best. These jumps, when landed, tend to hurt. Also useful for reaching high shelves. Upgrade to High Dragoon, capable of rending the earth with their landing, and gain access to Aero spells.

Black Mage: Tapping into the arcane, Black Mages are capable of manipulating the forces of Fire, Thunder, Ice, Water and Wind spells. With this wide array of spells, getting within punching range of these guys can be difficult. Upgrade to Black Wizard, gaining a larger repertoire of spells, including the likes of 'Flare' and 'Ultima'.
.

Thief: Sure, no one likes a thief, but if you're good at it, why not? Besides, these particular thief's can somehow steal your stuff, even when you're wearing it! and, while you may not out-muscle warriors in a fight, you could at least run circles around him. Upgrade to Ninja, who gain the amazing ability to throw swords with ease.

Archer: Those who shoot arrows. Compared to a cannoneer, they may seem boring, but can a cannoneer shoot up to five arrows at once? Yeah, thought not. Upgrade to Ranger, who are said to be able to shoot ten arrows at once, and may or may not have an affinity for animals.

Green Mage: Mages with the ability to strengthen friends are debilitate foes. With spells like Protect or Slow, Green Mages can often turn the tide of battle. Upgrade to Green Wizard, who gain strengthened buffs and debuffs, as well as limited healing capabilities.

Geomancer: Those who use the terrain as their weapon, Geomancer's are capable of summoning small quakes or conjuring fire, depending on their location. Upgrade to Geo Lords, who can literally take control of aspects of the environment. So instead of casting the equivalent of a Fire Spell, they'll instead gather up nearby lava and throw it at something.

Chemist: Scientists who specialise in creating items, these guys are capable of brewing potions and ethers, as well as elemental bombs. Upgrades to Alchemist, who can create even more powerful items, and even potions that vastly increase the consumer's capabilties.

Berserker: Warriors with a great lust for battle, their speed and strength is renowned. They can even increase their strength further by simply losing their mind temporarily. Upgrade to Destroyer, warriors with bloodlust so great, they ignore things like defence and other stats to shoot their strength into the cosmos.

Phew. Well, there you go. Ask here if you have any questions.

...Tentative interest, I guess. Thinking of either a Red Mage or an Evoker at the moment, but we'll see.

Funnily enough I was thinking about an original flavour FF-based RP the other day, ahah~

Yay interest.

  • Name: Rika Kingsman
  • Age: 12
  • Class: Red Mage
  • Appearance: Rika is of average height for her age, with snow-white hair that falls to her knees, and tanned skin. Like most mages of her practice, Rika wears a lot of red. Red tank top, red skirt, red vest, scarlet cape, and black boots. She also wears a feathered hat, and black-rimmed glasses that she whips from seemingly nowhere to read things.
  • Race: Human
  • Personality: Rika is incredibly lazy with her training, believing her skill to be too great for the need. Sure, she may not be too bad in a sword fight, and her magic is decent, but just about anybody who bothered training will show her up. Unlike most though, she'll realise her faults. She just won't strive too hard to resolve them.
  • Abilities: Above-average swordsmanship. Knows Fire, Thunder and Cure, preferring Thunder spells.

  • Name: Erik Lennard
  • Age: 20
  • Class: Dragoon
  • Appearance: Erik stands a head taller than most adults, with a lean build. To improve his aerial dexterity, he wears light armour of a dark shade. A dragon-shaped helmet conceals his features.
  • Race: Human
  • Personality: Erk fancies himself to be quite the honourable knight, never fighting those he deems 'weaker', nor would he insult his opponents by giving them a handicap. He likes to go on about improving his strength and fighting the ideal opponent, though he tries not to sound arrogant about it.
  • Abilities: Not a half bad Jumper, and great at more conventional combat as well.

Age: 19

Class: Chemist

Appearance: MAD SCIENTISTO I'm so subtle.

Personality: ULTIMATE MAD SCIENTISTO. ALL BOW DOWN BEFORE HIS GLORY AND MIGHT. HE IS ABSOLUTELY RIGHT WITH EVERYTHING HE SAYS AND DOES, SO SAYS I!

Abilities: Typical buff potions and the like. Also a bomb that can stun foes!

[up][up]If you've played the first six games or IX, you'll have a general idea of the setting. It might also help to be familiar with a few 'traditional' things in the series, like the magic or monsters involved.

[up]Accepted.

By the way, I've added 'races' to the sign up, and a short list of notable races. Feel free to suggest others that may fit.

Hurm, let's see now...

  • Name: Emily Alicia Joan Margarita Anastasia Francesca Timothy Ishtar Garnet Vermillion... Let's just settle with "Emily Rubeno".
  • Age: 16
  • Class: Red Mage Dashing Woman of High Adventure
  • Appearance: It must be a crime to look this good.
  • Race: Human
  • Personality: Overblown and very hammy. Her calling in life is adventure, and she treats everything she does like some great undertaking, turning even the most mundane of tasks into an epic for the ages (in her mind, at least). However, she's more serious minded than this makes her out to be, and is very commited to her studies of the arts martial and magical. She seems to have an obession with "culture", however her idea of culture can often come across as somewhat different than what others think, as she treats both upper and lower class citizens and their works the same. In fact, she treats pretty much everyone she meets in the same jovial, over-enthusiastic fashion.
  • Abilities: Emily knows the basic Fire, Blizzard, Thunder and Cure spells up to the "-a" level, as well as Quake and Aero (however, she mostly just learned Aero for the purposes of Dramatic Wind). She's also a dab hand with a rapier.

Evokers can't use Black Magic. But they can summon weak monsters of the corresponding element. Like flans or something.

All right. I've got a couple of ideas, so I'll post all of them and see which one you guys think is best.

  • Name: Gamma
  • Age: 19
  • Class: Black Belt
  • Appearance: 6'7", with black hair, green eyes, and a very muscular build. He usually wears green martial arts training robes and gos barefoot.
  • Race: Human
  • Personality: Gamma seems to exist in two states of mind, and two only. Normally, he is a calm, quiet, reserved man, focused only on improving as a martial artist and doing good, regardless of reward. However, when angered, Gamma becomes seemingly another person entirely, capable of unexpected brutality against the one who angered him. When angered, he doesn't hold back at all, often maiming his enemies. Usually, an ally can convince him to calm down.
  • Abilities: Gamma is incredibly strong, just as any other Black Belt is, and his weapon of choice is the Fire Claw. He knows Kick, Double Attack, Chakra, and Barehanded, but his most effective technique is Retaliate.

  • Name: Pantera
  • Age: 28
  • Class: Thief
  • Appearance: 5'9" with dark brown hair and hazel eyes. Wears a red set of leather armor.
  • Race: Human
  • Personality: Pantera behaves much like a ninja, which makes it only fitting that he is a Thief. He prefers to do things silently and efficiently, and he often resorts to pragmatism in combat if he thinks a fight is taking too long. However, he is generous with what he steals, and he freely gives away items to his associates. One can often tell Pantera's opinion of them by the stolen goods he gives.
  • Abilities: Pantera is fast bordering on Super-Speed and a master of swordplay among thieves. He is a master of Steal, Sprint, and Flee, but he also knows Vigilance and Find Passages.

@Yuri Strike - Multiple people can use the same job.

@Spirit - All right, accepted.

@Test Your Might - Both of those look fine to me, but there's no need to include things like 'Find Passages' or 'Barehanded'. The passages thing could simply be described as your character having a knack for finding hidden areas, and barehanded would be unnecessary for a Black Belt, anyway.

Anyway, accepted.

And something I forgot to mention, there's no need for every single person to form one giant party. There's four continents, after all, and it wouldn't make sense for people outside their nation to suddenly leave for reasons that would be unknown. Multiple parties can exist, and will probably all join up to take on the Big Bad anyway.
