This game will be better than whatever those dopes from Altar Interactive churned out (the Ufo Aftershit series). Because it can't get any worse (would you believe that Aftershock had a Game-Breaking Bug that could be fixed only by sending your savegame to the company?!).

@Not So Badass Longcoat: Aftermath and Afterlight is not bad (although Aftermath strategic view is really simple...)

Its not that Afterwhatever games are bad, its that they aren't Xcom games.

Those four letters in the title can't possibly make a real difference, let's be honest.

They're real-time with pause, aren't they? Meh.

^Exactly.

Second is that they aren't even stylistically similar nor have same feeling. Afterwhatever games are more apocalyptic.

No. My point is if they had been "XCOM:afterwhatever" games, they wouldn't have been better games.

Yay! People judging a game before it's even been released - or any sort of info yet.

^^^And my point was that "Spiritual Successor" doesn't mean "Good replacement for original". In otherwords, the case wasn't that they weren't named Xcom games, Xcom games aren't Xcom games just because of the name.

Yeah, what the fuck would Firaxis know about strategy games?!

[over-dramatic hipster imitation]Well, every game made in the past decade has been a mindless, soulless piece of crap meant for brain-dead fratbros who break down weeping at the mere mention of difficulty, and anyone who actually enjoys this whored-out dreck needs to be culled from the genepool before they can spread their moron germs across the globe and plunge humanity into the Stupid Ages. NO EXCEPTIONS.[/over-dramatic hipster imitation]

(amidoinitrite?)

EDIT: (Just realized I should probably make it a little clearer that this is not in any way meant to be taken seriously. Poe's Law and all that)

^^If you are replying to me, I've never talked about Firaxis at any point. Didn't they do Alpha Centauri? I was talking about why I hate it that when I missed Xcom, some people told me to what UFO Afterwhatever games.

I'm assuming it's bad that I'm more excited about that little "Mass Effect 3: The First 6 Hours" thing on the corner of that GI cover.

But still, this is awesome.

Too many gamers in Xcom thread not having ever played Xcom D= Has Xcom truly became so obscure?

I prefer for info to be out before I start bitching about stuff. I remember waiting ever so patiently for the Gameinformer issue on Fallout 3 to be released so I could complain about it. Those were the good old days.

Anyway, it's fucking Firaxis. Of course they won't fuck it up.

Firaxis has done good before, so I know that I can trust them...

I'm not going to judge the game so hastily, though, unlike all the other haters.

Okay, fine! I'm going to do something I'm sort of good at!

[up] x6: Well, its available as a cheap download game, so there's more exposure now than at some points in the past. However, speaking as someone who gave it a try, the control interface is rather awful. Some games age better than others, and X Com didn't age so well. Which is a pity, its certainly a strong concept. I just can't really play it for obstructive controls.

( the Master Of games spoiled me, when it comes to retro games and controls. . . )

Huh? Right click look, and turn, left click move and shoot, scroll by pointing the mouse at the edge of screen and if you want to do a special action, click on the icon, or use a keyboard shortcut...

I cant really imagine how they could make it more user-friendly. Especially compared to other games from the same time period which relied on arcane keyboard combinations to even do the basic stuff like open inventory or attack enemy.
