Just want to reiterate that SO 3 is my eternal nemesis and them "going back to SO 2 and 3" for this new game does not fill me with confidence.
I mean, how dare that SO 4 be in outer space and deal extensively with space exploration! We can't have any of that. The videos Is aw of SO 5 assured me that I will get to experience the joy of running around the star ocean of a generic fantasy planet.
I still need to play SO 1 and 2 though.
Does Star Ocean 3's plot twist mean that the previous games were affected by the twist too?
The Protomen enhanced my life. This is all I know.

I had a guy I know who translates Xenogears stuff translate this for me.
""As far as I can tell, the short answer to your question is that I can't really say for sure, since it seems pretty vague to me. Then again, my knowledge about the Star Ocean series is extremely limited, so maybe I'm missing something. I know you said you didn't need a full translation, but I think the best thing to do would just be to give you one and let you draw your own conclusions. It's not that much text anyway. :)
Interviewer: About the shocking conclusion to the last game (Star Ocean 3), do you plan to follow that in some way in this game?
Mr. Yamagishi: We're making Star Ocean 4 as a story of beginnings, and it takes place before the First Age. [Probably not the correct term used in the games] And the Star Ocean series was originally structured to be more or less complete as a trilogy. As for the way 3 ended, I think it'd be okay to consider it something thrown at the users by Tri-Ace. In my opinion, there's many ways to interpret it. Whether the world was destroyed in 3, whether you could say the world of Star Ocean ceased to exist, or if this was a false world created as a parallel dimension, which one is the real world, these are all things that are still unknown in terms of the Star Ocean world. So I'd be grateful if people wouldn't necessarily interpret that conclusion to mean the end of everything.
The second question is just about gameplay stuff and shouldn't be relevant. Hope this helps in some way!"
So that's the best we got, so far as I know.
It helped explain a lot of the RPG conventions that the series has always used such has shop's gear, universal money and the world being set up for convenient quests and systems on every single world.
Its the way their universe has always run.

No A Wicked Ruler? ;____;
At least there's no doubt incarnation of the devil will be back.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerI have no doubt more songs will come as DLC after Drakengard 3's music DLC.
Edit: Oh right, we got the box art and we're getting a trailer.

I'm not surprised. I think Welch will be in every SO game ever.
I do hope she's...erm, dialed down from SO 4, though. I like The Last Hope but the first cutscene with Welch might very justifiably send players running for the hills.
She is going to be really young in this one so expect her to be worse.
Also I liked Last Hope Welch...

She has good moments, mainly when she's first meeting crew members.
But the first scene with her is...yikes.
New info, screenshots(one of Welch!) and details~
